Hi Ladies Do you have any comments on the construction quality at Mudon and new development Arabella . How is the community maintenance ? Is the developer providing all amenities promised ? Is it safe to consider buying in either of these communities . There are some attractive deals

Chocobella I was looking for natural alternatives for the dishwasher powder and the iherb one looks good. Do you order the powder online ? How do you get it to UAE? They don't deliver here as per their website

I have a Siemens dishwasher with Zeolite. Quite satisfied with performance till now . Dishes come out clean and no strong odours. I use Finish powder and tablets . Once a month , we also run a cleaner through the empty machine on a hot cycle . I also clean the filters once a week by hand

Thank you Mareas and Lolacat for your replies. Good to know that EC Secondary is going strong. The closure of primary definitely was scary and parents are still a bit skeptical about the future of secondary. I will surely be applying to both DC and EC . Your comments have given me the confidence to give a go.

I have friends whose kids attend this school. They are quite happy with their choice . The number of kids per class is less now ,so kids get individual attention. Teachers are also good. The after school activities are yet to start though.

Good day Ladies Bumping this post , i am also in a decision making phase now regarding Yr-7 applications . Looking forward to comments from parents regarding Dubai College and English College . Any comments from parents of kids attending EC now ? How is the quality now post the closure of EC primary ? Also does DC have a preference for UK PP holders like DESS or do they assess kids based only on merit / achievements / entrance test etc ? TIA edited by Diyas on 07/01/2015

Sallymoon My kid attended Aga khan and i was very happy with their overall set up- the place is very calm and spacious and the staff were very caring towards my lil one . They also have a napping time in the afternoon. I suggest you visit both places and make a decision.

Sweets / ice cream, chocolates Books, music etc. but I rarely get time to actually do this when stressed. Sometimes I try to finish some work when at home to divert my thoughts ... I also browse EW everyday :) But I am also thinking of learning to deal with stress rather than stuffing myself and gaining pounds any recommendations for self help / calming CD that you can play before sleep so that your mind is slowly tuned to deal with stressful situations? maybe recommendations on hypnotherapy CDs to cope with the feeling of stress, being tired all the time etc ?

After school activity - how many days in a week will a child normally attend the in house activities run by school. Any idea?

ecochic... please elaborate how to use baking soda as shampoo and ACV as conditioner. will the greasy oily scalp get clean with baking soda?i guess a lot of us here would be thankful if you could share . see the no. of threads that pop up regarding hair fall in dubai :( There are 2 ways to use baking powder (sodium bicarbonate and not baking powder, Sorry, my bad). First is to dilute a tablespoon or more of baking soda (tweak it according to your length) with a cup of water, put it in a squeeze bottle and give it a good shake, use like a shampoo. Just remember, there is no soapy lather. Put it directly on your scalp and give it a good rub, then rinse thoroughly. Second method (I use this), wet your hair, apply the dry baking soda to rub/clean the scalp using little by little till you have covered the entire area and rinse. To condition, a cap of Apple cider vinegar diluted with a cup of water. Mix and apply to hair. I let it sit for a bit before rinsing it off. Sometimes I soak a couple of fresh Rosemary twigs in hot water overnight and add a cap of ACV and refrigerate it overnight and use the next day. Your scalp will have a transition period where your hair will react to excess oil being produced and no shampoo to clean it. This can range from 2 weeks to a few months. Took me 2 weeks for my scalp to stop producing excessive amounts of oil. Thank you ecochic... i will be trying this out ...

How do you choose the right foundation colour? I always go for bare minerals and buy from Sephora .. I just pick a shade that I think matches my face and thats it.Not a good way ... i know... I googled about foundation shades and that is even more confusing with NC, NW etc... Is there a make up store here where they analyse and tell you what shade we should go for ?

even we use Pinki as antiseptic and i just love to watch the crystals dissolve in water .... but using for veggies is a new idea... thank you janatks... This contamination issue is such bad news. Puts me off completely ... eating all this in the name of organic and paying double - triple prices for that !!!!!! would rather stick to normal veggies washed in Pinki/ vinegar.

I can hear cock-a- dooddle doos in the early mornings every day and even at some odd times from quite a lot of directions from my place. This means that there are quite a lot of families successfully raising their own chickens no matter what the weather is. Or is that all yours mrsb that I hear :) Anyways its worth trying if you have some space ......

Thank you DRey for taking the time to reply in detail.... Thats the type of targets that i was looking for....something which i can just try to achieve. I am not good with maths , so better to follow a target recommended by experts....makes life easier. I agree with Feefmick , the packages here are not the same anymore and saving is getting more and more difficult ... there is always a fear that things can go wrong at anytime .. I remember your honest posts Feefmick about living frugally and giving your kids the best education. Admire your determination... I remember clearly a case of an old Polish lady in Dubai struggling to make ends meet , her story was discussed in EW as well. She was in her late 80s i guess and just outlived her savings... I believe she just lived longer than she expected and ran out of money. That was definitely an eye opener. What if we outlive our savings? How much is enough??? One never knows

Thank you all. DRey ...By annual salary , do you mean the total income of both partners put together? If that amount is to be available in cash like yu said , then I believe we should try to save one persons salary in full every year. You should survive as a family on only one persons income. Is that what you mean ? Not easy , i would say ...

I got Woodwards gripe water from Lulu a couple of months back . So they should be stocking them still . You can also try Bonnisan from Himalaya available in most pharmacies. It works well for most babies. Also try the baby massage to soothe colic pains. See videos in youtube. My baby was quite relaxed after a massage. HTH
