Your daughter will find a lot of the information that she required in the Explorer How to guide to Abu Dhabi, available in all the supermarkets over there.

Super! I've sent you a request to join your group. My contract starts mid November. As soon as we're settled in, we'll return to fetch our beautiful 4 year-old boxer. We can't live without her, she's out first child. LOL.

I do believe that the woman who organises the AD morning coffees works for the royal family. You should try to contact her. I would give you her name but there doesn't seem to be private messages on this board. Maybe you can find her in the calendar section of the website.

Well there are two ways to go about it (at least). Check out the different hospitals/clinics websites and see if they have openings (cleveland clinic, SKMC, Al Mafraq, Corniche...) or... go there and walk right in and chat with people who work there. Good luck!

I started the process on my own but found it very confusing as well. I would not get past the first step of the dataflowgroup process because, despite assurances to the contrary, it does not accept applications without a sponsor. My potential future employer asked me to drop it because they would take care of it themselves. They have so much more experience with the dataflowgroup thing than we do.

Doris, I'll keep that in mind. I might need help LOL. Check out abudhabimoms when you get there. I met them recently and they've got playgroups and activities for the kiddiwinks, also themes groups (singing, language, crafts etc.) Maybe we can start a twins theme LOL? I'm back in my home country (er I'm an expat here too) and waiting for the kiddies to grow in my belly.

Hi I can't help with entertaining kids on a plane, but I have done medical evacs with very tiny kids. One thing I learned is to give them something to suck on (pacifier or bottle) on takeoff so that their ears pop and don't hurt them so much. Same on landing. Hope that helps.

Some mums have said that kid home proofing items are not the best here and they wished they had brought the items from their home countries. Don't know if that is an issue for you. But I would say most items are easily available.

That's a good question. I don't know but I would try asking a hotel lobby. They certainly get a lot of questions about mail.

Well, as far as I understood, the visa process proper starts with the medical visit upon arrival (medical history, blood work looking for communicable diseases which will get you a plane right home, chest Xray for tuberculosis). Then you go over to the Emirati ID desk and they process your visa. Takes some time after that to get everything back. Hopefully there is a guy in your husband's office that will guide him through this process (they are called PRO I think, it's some kind of acronym). Anyway we had done this in October prior to the move (we came for 10 days specifically to meet the employer and do the paperwork). Turns out they made a mistake so he had to do all over again in January.

Hi! The marina mall area is called Breakwater. My husband works there too. He had been staying in apartment hotels since he arrived, unable/unwilling to find more permanent accommodation. He has had bad experiences with some of the real estate agencies on Dubizzle. Some charge a fee to show you a place. Others will put ads on that are just bait. On the phone they ask what your housing allowance is and try to sell you on a property slightly above that amount. I know that negotiation is the name of the game here, but hubby dislikes it with a passion. I tried Airbnb too. Maybe you'll have more luck than I did. No one replied to my offers. Khalidiya is a great neigbourhood for your husband, since he can take the #5 bus to Marina Mall. Apparently, there are a few villas behind Khalidiya Mall that are worth checking out. Otherwise, other not too out of the way areas would be Al Markaziyah, Al Bateen, Tourist Club Area and Al Reem. This last one being where you will find the highest concentration of expats I think. (We did find a place on Dubizzle in the end).

Hi! My husband's residency visa took a month to arrive. I don't know if that is standard. In the meantime he was without his passport so had trouble getting a hotel room coming back from Hong Kong with his employer. He had to go back to a hotel that already knew him. Hopefully your husbands have accommodation sorted out so this won't be an issue. I still live in my home country so wouldn't know about sponsoring a spouse yet. I am expecting twins as well, for August. We'll be over when we get the green light from the pediatrician. Hope to meet you all then!

Hi Nicci I spoke to Michelle, who hosts the coffee mornings, about importing my dog. She said it was not necessary to use a special agency. All that is required is for all your paperwork to be in order. I'm going to take Lex in as I usually take my dogs, with me in the cargo hold. Maybe you can contact Michelle directly by PM?
