5 Ways You Can Celebrate World Kindness Day

Enter World Kindness Day, which is celebrated annually on November 13th. It's an entire day devoted to focusing on extending warmhearted acts towards others, behaving nicely and doing so without any expectation of anything in return.

Between everyday frustrations, it's easy to forget how to give small acts of kindness on a daily basis. So it's good that we have a full day dedicated to reinforcing the importance of niceness, letting go of anger and perhaps soften are hardened exteriors.

Afterall, it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile! And the mental and physical effects of kindness are plentiful, so we should all embrace a positive attitude a lot more.

Give encouragement to others, at work, on social media, or a family member

We've all been there; it's easy to fall into a repetative routine at work and in our social media activities, which often involves showcasing our own successes, adventures and self-promotions. Instead take a new direction... Give kudos to a colleague, or a Facebook friend, or share a family member's new project, recipe or recording for others to enjoy! Encouraging words go a long way.

Express gratitude to a teacher or someone who has made a difference in your life

You could write a letter or visit in person, and share with them how their kindness, support and encouragement helped you, and let them know how grateful you are to know or have known them. It will definitely make their day, and could even move them deeply.

Simple gestures that make life easier for others

If you use up the milk at work, replace it. Replenish the sugar bowl if empty. Replace the water cooler if empty and don't just leave it. Wave your hand in front of the automatic paper towel dispenser in the restroom to save the next person a step. You can park a few spaces further away from the shop, to allow those who really can't walk the further distance to park closer. It's the little things, remember!

Start a campaign to help an individual or group

Perhaps you'd like to help raise awareness and/or funds for a group or individual who is held close to your heart. Be it for an animal shelter, charity or person who is fundraising themselves or in need of medical attention.

Be kind to yourself by embarking on a self-care crusade

You can take better care of your health, treat yourself to regular massages, meditate, take a yoga class, watch your finances more carefully, end a bad relationship, pursue what you want in life or you can avoid negative self-talk completely. Make it your priority every day to take better care of yourself, and it will reflect in your behaviour with others.
