Hello ladies, I am in Joburg (for work and on EW!!) and am loving it here...the weather is good (snowed yesterday! after 30 years), people are amazing and food is great!

I needed some advise. While I travel to countries, I like to buy local brands in clothes which are not available in Dubai (not the zara and mango). can you please suggest what shops I should look for? I am in Sandton Sun hotel so sandton mall is very close.

Also, I wanted some local jewellery (not expensive but very SA)...any idea which shops?

To all the South African ladies, I am humbled by the warm people here! Thank you...

I just love Ginger Mary designs available at Truworths. Ethnic designs on dresses, t-shirts etc.

Thanks Hilsbils. I have seen lulu-belle at Sandton yesterday and fell in love with it (from the window) but it was closed. I was asking someone about it this morning. Is it reasonable priced? I saw a few items I would love to buy from there. I want to know if I can buy from here and then not regret it that I found something elsewhere cheaper...let me know, as I will be heading there again tonight.... The stuff is reasonably priced - some items as little as 100aed - because its made to look flash but they dont use real gems or gold etc. Enjoy ! Sandton is the place to shop

Local made clothes are sold in supermarkets like Pick and Pay (they sometimes have really cute stuff especially for children). Cape Town is more the place to go buy local made jewellery and clothes as they have huge outdoor markets (we call it flea markets, dont know why) where people come and sell their goods. Mr.Price also sells South African made clothes (basic stuff nothing fancy). If you want upmarket clothes then you would have to go to the boutique type shops in the malls. For Jewellery, I like buying at Galaxy,Sterns,American Swiss,HDL or Arthur Kaplan. My fave South African Jeweller is Jenna Clifford. She has a website too but they are very pricey but gorgeous!! Its all south african diamonds and gold regardless of the name. For cheaper costume type jewellery I would again recommend the flea markets. Thats where local jewellers bring their stuff. Enjoy the snow and the food and the wine and the people!!! ;)

Glad you like it. Johannesburg is often overlooked by tourists and it has a great energy and is surprisingly lush and beautiful. Not sure where you can shop as our local chains are Truworths, Foschini,Woolworths (different to the UK brand) etc but there are a huge range of private designers and boutiques from great local designers. My favourite jewelry shop is called Lu-Belle but not sure if there is one in Sandton. Enjoy and good luck
