USA immigration can take a while. I was recently in Miami and it took almost 2 hours. Mainly because of volume of people and how long the basic process takes. As already stated you cannot get in without a visa or ESTA but BA should check that anyway. Nothing can be done to speed things up I am afraid, just have to be patient.

Oh, poor you. You are made to feel so unwelcome when standing in the queue greeted by such unfriendly security / police who are fully armed & not with a smile in sight either. I hate flying into Vegas, I hope not to have to do it again - for work purposes we went for. We are flying BA via LHR into Vegas so im hoping it won't be too awful Yeah they gave OH a right going over one time he was there, he thought they weren't going to let him in

Depending on where you are flying too the immigration in America can be a nightmare and take forever, New York and LA are the worst. However, Etihad fly direct now and you can clear USA Immigration in Abu Dhabi which could save an hour or two when you get there.
