Renting a room to tourists

Tell me how to protect myself when renting a room for a short time to tourists? The situation is this, I have a three-room apartment. I used to live here with my husband and his child from my first marriage. We divorced him six months ago (having done everything on our own without a lawyer, just following the advices from here), but I stayed here to live because of the very convenient location of the apartment (very close to my work). But to be honest, rent is a little expensive for me. I decided to make some money by renting rooms that I don't use. But I am a lonely woman and I am afraid that there will be strangers in the house.

What should I consider when I rent a room to somebody, in order to protect myself as much as possible? Any advice is needed and I will be very grateful for them!

I'd probably only rent to other women or families if I were in your shoes. I might consider some sort of short term rental contract too so that you have some legal recourse if they wreck the place for some reason.
