Love Can be Found in Dubai

Meet the lovely Mie Connor, she found love in Dubai and knows what it's like to be a new mum in a place far away from home.

A bit about us:

I am a Danish mum, blogger and founder of Me and the Bump. The blog is about being an expat, pregnant and new mum in a place far away from home where things are sometimes a little bit different from our home comforts. When I was pregnant with our son last year I really missed having access to some information and support about more or less everything so I'm hoping to help new mums and answer some of the questions I had myself.

I’m living in:

Together with my husband and son, we live in Dubai. Our son was born in July 2014 and his little sister is due to be welcomed into the world in the beginning of September.

How long have you lived there?

I have lived here more than 5 years.

Why did you move?

I came to Dubai alone with my career but met my husband shortly after i arrived. I'm currently having a career break to focus on my little family.

Why I like living here.

I loved Dubai from the first day I visited the city and I still do. I like that its so different from my home country and I love the 9 months of sun and outdoor life. It is quite different from the Danish weather!

Accommodation Options?

We live in Dubai marina in an apartment with a beautiful sea view. We chose to live there because we love the sea and the beach but we also like to listen to the buzz of the city! We might have to move to a villa soon as we need some more space for the kids!

What do you enjoy doing with your time?

My time is spent with my little family and all my lovely mummy friends. I also love blogging, cooking and baking and spending time in the outdoors - when its not to hot.

What top tips do you have for anyone considering a move?

Do it! I love being an expat and you can always just go home again if you don't like it. I always ask myself 'Whats the worst there can actually happen?' Often the answer is nothing!

What do you wish you’d known before you moved?

That its difficult to go back!! I said I would spend two years in Dubai but its so hard to leave especially when your husband is from another country, as this adds another confusing element of where to go to.

What’s the best thing about being an expat?

Meeting so many different people from all over the world, exciting career opportunities and getting to know other cultures and traditions, I also enjoy that Dubai is a fantastic transport hub so its very easy to travel around for short breaks.

How do you keep a little bit of home with you as an expat?

We eat lots of Danish foods which I cook and of course I try keep my apartment decorated with Danish design items which I love! Also I have many friends from Denmark which makes Dubai feel like a home away from home.

Anything else you’d like to share with us about your expat experience?

I know many people say that its not possible to find the love of your life in Dubai, however in my case this is not true! So I'm proof that IT IS possible!!
