Staying with family for the holidays? You’ll probably relate to these…

As expats, we often go back to our home countries for the holidays. There are just some experiences you know you’ll go through every year!
1. An eating marathon from Christmas to New Year's.
That’s why the top three items on your New Year’s Resolution list all say “Going to the gym.” Scientists credit this to aromas triggering vivid memories, so really it’s okay to want all the food. It’s science.

2. You don’t have to cook your own meals!
Which inevitably contributes to the previous point.

3. Your sleeping arrangements aren’t as comfortable as you remember them to be…
Possibly because your room has been converted to storage…or you’re stuck on an air-mattress because half your extended family are also staying there for the holidays.

4. Flipping through old photo albums.
You’ve seen them a million times but somehow it’s become like a tradition to look through them every time.

5. Your family bombards you with questions about your love life.
Why are you still single? When are you going to get married? When are you going to bless us with kids?

6. Going out strangely resembles an awkward school reunion.
It’s really okay to cross the street to avoid all the small talk, right?

7. You turn into an overly excited 5 year old on Christmas morning.
Being reunited with family and being home just seems to double the Christmas spirit.

8. You feel like a celebrity.
Everyone is just so excited to see you. Your family, friends, even the grocery store clerk is happy to see you again.

9. Netflix gets concerned about you.
Yes, Netflix, I’m still here! Just finally have some time to catch up on all the shows.

10. Going out turns into 21 questions.
Sure, you’re a grown adult, but where are you going? With who? When are you coming back?
