I've been trying with very little success, to purchase an Iphone4. Seems they aren't stocking them anymore, great ploy to et everyone to go for the 4S, but I'm not keen on their price ;-) has anyone seen the 4s 16GB in stock recently. TIA.

Lol. Daza, I see you every morning on the school run too and then feel guilty that I don't have the drive to get off my lazy butt and do some walking.

I'd wish my children would fall asleep and STAY asleep. Teething 12 month old and nearly 4 year old having nightmares every night from an hour after he goes to sleep. I. Can't. Keep. Up.

I used the blue Fisher Price one for both my boys. Sturdy and they loved it. Has an arch that flashes and plays music for entertaining and can easily be removed for relaxation time. It also vibrates - this worked wonders in getting DS 2 to get drowsy. The Rainforest one is lovely too...infact DS climed into one over the weekend and amused himself...so it's sturdy and good enough for 1 year olds. hehehehe..

I'd personally steer clear of Dragonmart for a bike for my 4 year old ( but then I'd actually steer clear of most stuff from there) and stick to Toys R Us or even Wolfies. When I bought DS his first bike at T R Us the guy checked all the brakes, wheels, seat and handlebars and seemed to know what he was doing. This was at the FC branch. Not sure if the sale is still on. Mayr try giving them a call - warning though... Expect it to take about 30 minutes before someone actually answers ;-)

You were just under it ;-) it's on level one. Directly above Sephora. Next to Monsoon. But yes, there is also one at Dubai Mall. Level 2 (?) near the big fountains with silver divers... Almost directly across from Hamleys.

Hi. Yes it's possible. There are a few curtain guys recommended on this board that will add blackout lining onto your original IKEA curtains. Last quote I got was 150 per curtain.

Sorry you are having to go through this at such an exciting time. DH would never have done this. If he had, he'd have been in the dog-box for sure ;-) Good luck with the chat. I hope it's a silly reason and you can talk him out of it.

Yip, it's not allowed in the Ranches. You and the company installing it can get a big fine! We had mixed responses from garderners though, so some do still promote it. We have actually been given a quote by a company that do it here, 3500 without the tank, obviously they don't want to supply the tank as it will draw attention to them at security? We decided it wasn't a risk worth taking. A friend is having it done in Umm Sequim and has had a few quotes through, not sure how much but nothing like what you paid Shaks, do you still have their details? Then again, they probably won't to the Unn Sequim area and if they do I'm sure their prices will be slightly higher. Still worth a shot I guess.

Wow. Can't believe I'm the only one saying "go for it". I guess it's what worked best for us. I had my reservations when we decided to send DS. but we are planning on being in Dubai for a long time still and thus, getting DS into the best school possible was HUGE on our list. The fact that he is now going 5 days a week and his days are more structured and he's not with me 90% of the time as he'd been used to, is a HUGE adjustment, yes - but one I that I believe has done him the world of good. We're only 5 weeks into FS1 and he has grown so much and really developing into a lovely child. He is getting much more out of it then he did at nursery and is SO much happier and more confident then he ever was at nursery...in fact, he keeps asking me if he can stay at his new school forever and never go back to the other one (nursery). His social skills are improving by the day, as is every other learning field. He is in NO way being emotionally scared. DS is one of the eldest (9/11/07) and believe me, there are a few who are about 5 months younger then him and they are leaps ahead in terms of confidence and even in a few physical aspects eg. toilet training. So I think yes, get everyones opinion - but at the end of the day only you know your child and you know the pros and cons of sending her and securing this place or taking a chance on getting her in later. Good luck, I'm sure you will make the right decision for you and your family.

Shouldn't the family be making sure this sort of thing if reported in the papers??? Agree with Guiness, I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often within the expat community.

Yes. And we did just this. DS started FS1 in September. I felt it was a bit early and he was still young but it was a place in a great school, 2 min drive from home. It's been a big adjustment. He'd only just done 3 mornings a week at nursery 10 weeks prior, so it was all very new to him. But he's settled wondefully and is very happy. If you plan to stay in Dubai for the next 3/4 or more years, I'd say go for it. Obviously if it was easier to get a position in FS2 I'd say hold back, but this is unfortunately not the case here.

Never offended by this question either, though I do usually hold back and let the other person ask me first just incase I do offend. Not so long ago I got into the lift at Spinneys Motor City and this woman looked at me and said, "where you from?" no hello, no nothing. I automatically assumed she knew I was new to the area (having just moved up this way) and replied sheepishly, "Mirdif". She giggled and got out the lift. I felt a bit silly for assuming there was some clickey Motor City Mafia and they were on to the newcomer. But then, she was quite rude anyway, so I had a good old chuckle to myself.

The "rule" when first DS was a baby was no pillows before the age of 2. Due to the fact that they can suffocate and because they don't really need it. In fct I remember Reading quite a few "experts" suggesting that children don't need pillows at all. DS co slept and he LOVED my pillow. Very thin, but feather... This was a big no-no so you can imagine the comments I got from some. But DS slept so much better with it and we have always had monitors on in his room even on holiday. By the time he started using a pillow when in bed on his own, he was 18months. He did have bad reflux as a baby, so was possibly used to having his head raised and this liked it? I don't know? I'm sure I'll be shot down but if you're asking because you've noticed DS likes your pillows, maye get him on of those little IKEA pillows for children to start with. You can also get foam ones with breathable holes in that are said to be safer. Hope I've helped. But maybe google it and see what the latest is. DS 2 (1 today) has been in bed with me for a few hours a night this past week, and I bet he'll be wanting a pillow now too, so let me know if u find any useful info.

Thanks Kellsbells, it is good to know that qualified hardworking agents do exist. will try her our. now we just have to find a good landlord to "live with"! Where did you end up yourself? I still am intersted in any direct dealing with landlords. I don't think you'll be disapointed with Jo. We ended up in a lovely Saheel villa. As it turns out, DH knows the LL through work, so we could have actually cut out the agent. But luckily we never felt that bitter as Jo had been so great.

Can you not leave them with a friend? If that's not an option what about plum2, teenage daughter(s)? Or getting someone to come watch them at your home, that way you can choose a brunch for adults only and cut out the little blighters for good? Lol.

DS gets a sandwich with either plain butter or butter and cheese on and some strawberries or grapes and his drink of water. Anything else and he doesn't eat it so I don't bother packing in more and I don't feel guilty cos at least he's eating what he gets and he's happy. I make sure he eats breakfast and he has a snack at home after school.

I didn't see the previous thread but I too have to say, kyliejoy, the world could do with more people like you. I had the pleasure of meeting Kylie and some of her animals this week and we now have one gorgeous little boy in our lives because of her. And because of her, he is no longer on the street and he won't be adding to the cat population and he certainly won't ever be put back out on the street. So the fact that anyone can speak negatively about Kylie and the work she's doing is hard to believe.

I give DS when I remember. He's hardly sick (touch wood) and doesn't eat the greatest so I'm not that religious with dishing them out. I buy them in south Africa but they sound similar to the ones TillyK suggested, they are called Jungle Vites.

Leo is BACK!!!!!!!! A family in Mirador about 2km's away have been feeding himminntheir garage for 2 weeks! I couldn't believe it when I saw his little face again. He, mind you, wasn't one bit interested in me. Little rascal. He's grown, a little more weary and jumpy/nervous and has a little sore on his side - but otherwise ok. I reckon he's only got 2 more of his 9 lives left though. I called DH at work to tell him, he can't wait to get home in the morning ;-) DS woke up a few minutes ago and I had to tell him the news so now the two of them are snuggled together on the sofa. Aaahhhh... I got my happy ending! Thanks ladies.

We went through the whole experience last month and we were lucky to be put in touch (through EW) with Joanne Derrick from Betterhomes. She was amazing. And after the first 2 weeks of various other agents I though it was going to be impossible. She changed that and we saw some great properties (she really listened to what it was we were looking for unlike the others who showed us 2 beds when we clearly stated we wanted 3) and in a week had everything signed and sealed. Nothing is to much for her. She would stop by the new villa and take all sorts of measurments for me and was always on time and always happy to answer questions no matter what time of the day, even Fridays. Give her a call. Tell her Gareth and Kelly recommended her. Her no +971 502420036

I didnt see the thread here on Expatwoman but Mickey's story made me very very upset yesterday. I spent the evening writing a letter in Arabic to a known Arabic newspapers in UAE and I mentioned to them that they never cooperate with animal lovers and put such stories in Arabic.. There is lot of Arabs in this country and many of them read Arabic newspapers so they should also bring up the animal abuse subject.. I dont know if they will respond to my letter but it is a real shame that they dont bring up these subjects and it is a bigger shame that no one is catching the people who are hurting these poor animals. I hope Mickey is doing well.. Well done. I hope they respond/post your letter in their paper. Glad to hear Mickey is doing better. Go Mickey GO!!!
