Well OP based on the large number of families that decided to not return to Star after the Summer, ( heading to other Dubai schools not leaving the uae) I'd say a place for you DD will come up faster than you think. Also noticeable are the parents that were Previously very involved with the school , seem to be the ones kicking Star to the curb in favor of other Dubai schools. Interesting..... Could've coincidence but I'm not so sure That place for yourDD might come up rather soon if this trend continues If you still want to risk sending her there. Strange that you would make this comment last night, when today was the first day of school? Clairvoyant perhaps?

id rather stand out side all morning than pay a school a registeration fee for doing nothing which frankly is what happens with most of the fees that people pay when registering their children. Agree, i'd rather spend an hour in a queue, than give away my well earned money for a place my child will probably never get! And to be fair to the school, they let people in after about 6am, and believe they started taking peoples registrations soon after, instead of making them wait till the official start time, which I think was 8am! - They didn't tell you to come and queue from 5am - so cant really blame them for that one! quote from another thread: i got there at 5.50 and thought i'd be early..there were probably 50 people in the line ahead. the first man in the queue got there at 2.30. just after 6 they moved us all into the air conditioned hall where there were refreshments for sale. it was extremely well run and the principal was there informing us all of procedure. i was very impressed!

Star did not take any money for registering your child on the waiting list. The only time money would need to be paid was when the child was offered a place. I'm guessing that will change now though.

We just have. after a lot of back and forth with our bank, they finally offered to lower our interest rate by 2.5%, and would not lower it anymore stating our LTV was not very much, we challenged them on this, and they wanted us to pay AED 3,000 to have the house valued. We then went to Emirates NBD, and they offered us 4.24% which is just under half of what we were paying. We were worried that our LTV would be too low, but it was fine, and better than what we needed to change. They even covered the early settlement fees, and other fees that needed paying. We lodged a complaint with the central bank for our original mortgage lender for various stuff, and the central bank ordered them to lower the early settlement fee from 3% to 1%. We are currently paying almost 1/3 less in mortgage payments monthly for the same tenure. I say go for it, and don't back down, as it works out so much better in the long run

The current principal is not renewing his contract at Star but he is doing a 6 month handover to the new principal who has been head of secondary at star for 4 years - that has to say something, as you usually hear about principals being there one day and gone the next.... I'm a happy star mom, and very happy to have my daughter there and my son hopefully starting in September. They have just announced an increas of class sizes from 20 to 22, but that is still a lot lower than most schools in Dubai.

DH cooked tonight as well, and yes it is a treat, but also frustrating, as it takes him half the day to cook the same thing I would cook in 40 mins... I did have a chuckle when I walked into the kitchen this evening and saw a ruler on the countertop.... I had to ask him what it was for and his reply was.... I had to make sure all the vegetables were 2 inches according to the recipe! Aaaaaarrrgghhhh! You made my day. Thanks for posting that. :) Yes it reminded me why I do all the cooking.... And even though he has cooked something 10 times.... Like scrambled eggs..... He will still look up the recipe!

I did for my first, but since have had someone do it for my 2nd and 3rd.... It goes so amazingly quickly though, cause the clothes are so small! And then I would coo at all the little outfits! I think ironing makes them feel so much softer!

Hi arayanwynn, do you have the plants growing in your garden? If so how old are your kids. I am not sure if I want to risk it... Although we have desert rose growing in our garden and that is supposed to be toxic too. Our plan would be for it to have long stems, and only have the leafy bits higher up, which would be out of the kids reach...

I don't understand the issue? Or maybe it is the question I don't understand? DD did FS1 in big school and there was 11 months between the oldest boy in her class (September born) and her (August born) so 6 months is really nothing to worry about

Welcome back! You are the lovely lady that made my DD a Barney CD, after I posted on her asking where I could get one! You'll be happy to know that we have got a lot of use out of that CD, as her brother grew into it too! now just waiting for 2nd DS to be old enough to listen! You also had a super fast birth of your son, which you husband was present at via Skype right?

I'd second that, my 2.5 year old son is Mr Michael's biggest fan! He always get's a very loud "morning Mr Michael" out of him in the morning, and is most upset when Mr Michael is "at the other gate" What I loved seeing the other day were the yr 2's having a water fight on the field, and Mr Michael heading out there and letting them all soak him with water! There is no way my stuck up headmistress would allow us to do that when I was at school!

We managed to get an extension in April as there was less than 6 months left on our helpers passport when we were renewing her visa, so they are doing extensions, unless it has changed in the last month? The extension was for a year.

He was my favourite from the start, and even his original song "home" was brilliant, It was still in my head when I woke up this morning, and melodies people remember is what makes them popular and sells records! would definitely go out and buy his! I even had tears in my eyes when he couldn't sing any longer, and left the stage to hug his parents! America definitely got it right!

I got DH a massage for his b'day and it was a female masseuse. I think it only has to be a male if it is not in a hotel establishment - much like alcohol and pork etc.

You can get the exit permit from the phillipine embassy in Abu dhabi... They will take a copy of the labour contract without a stamp. We could not get it done in Dubai without the stamp, but embassy in Abu Dhabi know that AD contracts are usually not stamped.

Hi dc I have the gina ford baby and toddler book if you would like to borrow it? Not promising any miracles, but it may give you some ideas on how to manage the routines. I'm in AR. I struggled with my first 2 who are 16 months apart, but things definitely got better when I got a full time maid. Even with my third and full time help, things aren't so bad having 3 kids under 4 running around and that is also without the help from DH.

It's the actual notification of birth issued from the hospital I was after. Baby was born on the 13th, called them on the 18th to find out when I can collect it, to be told that they will call me when it is ready, so after waiting 11 days since birth, called again this am to be told they have had it since the 17th and I can come and collect it :\: whilst the care at City is great, there is a lot to be said about communication.

I would say your DS will be at rather an advantage starting FS1 in September 2013, as one of the oldest. Have a look at some of the information about performance in school with regards to age/maturity. If I were you I wouldn't be considering starting him earlier. Also if you are only just looking at schools and he's not on any waitlists just yet then the more time you have the better! :) edited by BrownEyedGirl on 23/11/2011 If he was starting FS1 he should be starting in 2012. 3 turning 4. Not sure what the age group for KG1 is.

As we had a destination wedding we used a site similar to this one for guests who asked: http://www.honeymoonwishes.com/Honeymoon-Registry-48514.html As we did a trip gorilla trekking and climbing kiliminjaro for our honeymoon, we included stuff like porters to carry our bags, warm socks, a bottle of champagne for the top of Kili etc. Friends and family thought it was a great idea, and we did what we wanted with the contributions.

Same happened to me about 3 yrs ago. Was in a traffic accident and was sent home to find my lisence. Went to the traffic place at union co-op jumeirah and had a new lisence within 15 minutes. Just gave them my passport copy. No date or anything went onto the lisence so no way of telling it was just issued.

Let me get the point: Your husband's sponsor is changing, right.. Then only he (ur hubby) will pay for his visa.. Your and any other dependents will not be paying any thing.. Yes this is correct however they will cancel all our visas in Abu dhabi (semi government) and then process them all again in dubai
