OMG! Agree with the other poster, i would have called the police and made sure she gets punished for what she did! On the same note, i think a lot of expats spoil their maids way beyond the norm and offer them too many benefits to the point that they take everything for granted, ignore their work, become lazy and act as if it's their own house. Don't get me wrong i aim all for TREATING maids nicely and as family, but giving all those extra benefits have turned them greedy and ungrateful unfortunately. And that is why most maids that advertise on here are asking for British families because they know they will get much more and work much less (and be careless).

I find their behavior very strange! Are you hiring 1 lady for 4 hours? Why not try to hire 2 ladies from the agency for 2 hours each: they will finish faster, and will not get a chance to get tired!

The dr at the Al Quoz clinic is great. She will book your appointments for the best dates and charges 150AED per cup used. She has homeopatic training also. 150 Per Cup!!!! That's too much. Thanks for the info thought. I pay 600 for 10 cups at cleopatra spa with a qualified Dr, and some people consider that too expensive LOL

Hi Twirl, sorry to hear about your migraines. I heard that Hijama can be very beneficial for this however, it is advised for you to check your blood beforehand as if you have Anemia it can be dangerous apparently so better to be safe I think. Hi Zuhairah, I did Hijama last month at cleopatra spa and felt a great difference in energy level. Wanted to go back this month but unfortunately the Dr will be off on the best Sunnah day for this month (Tues 20th), could you please share your experience as well as the contact of the lady you used. Thx

Madeinengland, i saw your post earlier and wanted to reply but got caught up in something. I have not read all previous replies but here is my thought on your situation. 1) you have to finish the year for the sake of your son. 2) unfortunately some men loose interest once they feel that the woman they are with depend highly on them (emotionally or otherwise) and have low self esteem. My advise to you is to LOVE yourself: it seems that your children are old so they don't need constant attention, so get out and about. Go get yourself a new hair color and cut, get new trendy clothes, exercise, do massages… etc just pamper yourself And do not depend on your husband, just forget him for a while and focus on yourself, go out and meet new people to make new friends ( i use meet up dot com, they have lots of very active groups and i have met lots of friendly and nice people through it). Just keep in mind that you are doing this for yourself!!! if your husband came back to his senses great, but if not you would have learnt how to live and enjoy your life without him. Good luck and i hope you feel better soon...

Legoland just opened, and almost no one has been yet! What is the price of the annual pass and that of a ticket? The decision will depend on so many factors and only you can make it.

My only advice is to take him to one of the recommended pediatricians, i don't trust random Dr. at hospitals here unfortunately. Dr. Ahmed Hassan at Bin Hayat Clinic is excellent, he is available today and you can go as walk in (the wait could be long). Also do a search here you'll find other options. Good luck

I've never made cookies, but have seen some making videos in the past. As far as i understand the dough is not supposed to be firm and you are not supposed to roll it. I've seen them using either an ice cream scooper or 2 spoons to get it on the baking sheets :)

Hello, Would like some information I don't want to know salary but do you think a family of 3 ( mum, dad and a 1 year old) and a dog. Do you think a salary of 19,000 dhs is liveable in Dubai? Company provides house but we need to pay for all bills etc. My husband and I have been talking and I we really don't think we can afford to be in Dubai anymore I'm a stay at home mum, we don't have any part time help I do all the cleaning etc myself. We are British expat I'm just wondering if this salary is low, average in Dubai. tia Daisyduke, i agree with the other posters about the 6000 on grocery being high. I think that money could cover both nursery fees as well as grocery. The below are a few tips that i follow: - Nappies: i buy them in bulk (2 megapacks at a time) from Souq.com, that way they are much cheaper than supermarkets. - Wipes: sometimes they have 50% off for a pack of 6 at carrefour or coop, whenever i see that offer i buy like 2 or 3 packs, which should be enough till they go on sale again. - Baby formula: i buy the biggest tins from carrefour as you get more for your money. - Detergents: i am not loyal to any brand, i buy in bulk whenever i find a 50% off or buy 1 get one free offer, same goes for the washing machine gel. I don't save on food, however i buy what i am sure we will consume so that we don't end up wasting some. Also buy more meat from carrefour, their family packs are convenient and cheaper than other places.

Seriously i am fed up with reading this board where every single question turns into an argument. I don't see anything wrong with the OP wanting to take her maid to an affordable dentist, and i would do the same if we ever need one, as her insurance does not cover it...

45 an hour is too much. There are many agencies that charge 30 or 35 per hour. Going back to your question, i give the change as tips, usually like 10 or 20 AED depending on the number pf hours i book.

What kind of difficulty? Is it spelling mistakes, grammar or unable to come up with ideas? I think make him read for half an hour daily, there are plenty of free books on oxford owl, also make him write a small paragraph daily about anything, then sit and read it with him and point out the mistakes. If he has problems coming up with ideas, sit with him while writing and ask him lots of questions to stimulate his thoughts.

Hello ladies, looking for some advice.... My kids are going to the Ontario school in Mirdif. They are in Arabic classes for non-Arab speakers however my daughter in grade 3 has been put in the Islamic Studies class (she says there are 2 classes there) Islamic studies for muslim children where the class is taught in arabic and then one for the rest and the class is taught in English. Is that how it works here?? Everyone has to take Islamic studies? Any insight appreciated. Are you sure it is Islamic studies for non muslims? It could be social studies and she is confused as according to my knowledge as the other poster mentioned non muslims do not take Islamic studies.

How many times can I use a loofah for a Moroccan bath at the spa? I'm asking because I bought a loofah for my first Moroccan bath at the spa. When I returned for the second bath, I brought the same loofah, and they told me it was "no good". Generally, how many uses can you get out of the loofahs? They are probably trying to use you. I am not sure how long they last but definitely more than once!

Has anyone seen beef bones for sale at any of the supermarkets? I like to make my own broth/stock but only seem to find chicken. In Carrefour moe they have a pack labelled as just 'bones', but according to one of the butchers (who was wearing ****** gloves....and touched all the packets, and the fridge, and then a door, then came back out through the door to recheck the packets for me :\:), they're lamb. TIA I always get them from carrefour! They are never on display, ask one of the butchers to get you some, and they will do. I do the same at Lulu as well so assuming you can get them anywhere if you ask for it.

Since it is other Arabs, as Dindin described weddings are pretty similar to westerner weddings, so in terms of clothes any evening or formal dress would be fine. As for the presents, they don't usually gift at the wedding itself, but you do get them a present when you visit them in their new home for the first time.

Our maid is from Sri Lanka and has been looking after our 2 kids and our villa for the past 7 years. We pay her 2200 dhs per months and buy her groceries along with ours so I'd say it's probably an additional 300 dhs a month. Other costs to factor in are the annual visa renewals (6000 dhs) the optional health insurance (700 dhs), annual flight back to home country (2000 dhs), birthdays, xmas, etc... All in all we budget around 3300 dhs per month or 40,000 dhs per year Finally managed to find this post from Alexias and hoping she's still around and can guide me! Looking at your 6,000 annual visa cost makes me wonder why we are asked to pay 11,000 by our PRO to hire a Srilankan maid?! We've spent: 1000 visa application 2000 deposit 1000 status change & over stay Total of 4000 and having her employment letter so far But asked by PRO for another 7000 for the residency! He says its for processing fee Etc. Is this normal?! Status Change is definitely more than 1000, that's why people choose to make the maids exit to oman or kesh cause the ticket is cheaper. You still need to pay for medical (around 500 i think), 5000 to stamp the visa on the passport, and fees to issue the emirates ID for the maid. So i think yes 7000 is normal. Looking at the bright side if the maid is good and you will renew her visa next year, you'll only pay for the visa processing :)

I have something wrong with me and it has destroyed me. And every time I feel upset or frustrated, I snap myself swiftly back in by reminding myself that I am so, so, so fortunate and I could have been born in a country where you are not even worth a half an hour rest if you did have a need for it. Sorry, but big deal. The woman is obviously trying to earn a living despite this shake. She hasn't asked for a day off. WTH to you! You're not human? Make a flipping schedule! 5pm Ironing 6pm Rest 6.30pm Prepare dinner 7pm Rest 7.40pm Eaat/washing up I could easily rest for half an hour between tasks and still have it all done. Get her iron levels and Vitamin D levels checked. Give her enough iron inner food. Make sure she is eating. Make a schedule. LOOOOOL What's wrong with you?

My Filpino maid doesn't want to do dishes after ironing or even cooking anything. Saying that it can make her hands "shaky". How on earth it is possible to give her half an hour to relax every time she does cooking or do ironing before laundry or dish washing. I am not aware of any such illness neither believe in it. I do cooking and dish washing side by side... OrWashing hands right after ironing cloths. She is so persistent about it that I had to come here and ask if it's true? Our previous maid said something similar as well. She said if you iron then work with water you will get sick, I assume cooking is similar because it involves heat. Just let her do all the ironing at night before she goes to bed, and have her lunch right after cooking.

Hi ladies and gentlemen. I have been searching for a job and trying my best but its seems being African is the only crime I committed. I am a young lady and a graduate extremely hardworking, well experienced and fit to do any given task... yet whenever I tell them am an African I get weak response and no feedback. Even to work as a nanny yet no one wants to give a try.....pls why the discrimination what crime have we africans committed???? We never told God to make us africans.why are parents killing the zeal of the young african generation to make a decent living??? This is so unfair as I am discouraged and so feel so lonely in this race of life....thanks all for your time and contributions....God bless. Well... I was contacted few days ago by an African who was looking for job! She was sending me "good morning" messages and texts and finally found me over the phone! I invited her for an interview the same day and discussed all details and agreed on salary etc ! She was supposed to contact me yesterday to simply tell me what time she will come today with her suitcase to start the job!! All of sudden, I had to chase her for hours last night (same person who was sending me "good mornings!") and ended up hearing she wants more money!!! I guess I shouldn't had been that kind from the beginning!!! Sorry but that behavior is not African! I have seen it at least 6 times from Philippinas in my last nanny search. At least she told you the reason and not just disappeared like the others LOL

Ask them if they could remove the ceiling of the elevator and put it back once they are done. We had the same problem a couple of years ago with our sofa, DH told the security guy he'd pay him 200 AED if he could get the couch to our place (that was like 5 yrs ago + we live on the 1st floor :) ). So he removed the ceiling of the elevator, got it in, and it was up in no time.

Don't know about Nannies Dubai, but i have recently subscribed to a similar website (with maids/nannies cvs on it) for 450 AED, and it turned out to be a total waste in my opinion. Their contact numbers were not working and the ones that i reached were already advertising on Dubizzle and expatwoman. I ended up filling a complaint against them in consumer rights and threatening them to take my money back.

Was also disappointed that Kitchen 6 and Al Hadeerah both disappeared from the Fine Dinning. I used to buy it only for these 2 outlets. And it is really frustrating to have to pay a higher price for the useless travel book that they are attaching/forcing "as free" to all other books.

Don't have a recommendation for a dentist, but if you use a mix of baking soda and water (i mix it with lemon juice as well sometimes) twice a week, it will whiten your teeth.
