My worst experience was at Bounce recently. Far too many children in the premises for a start. My LO attended as part of a group of children sharing a joint 5th birthday party. First the instructions were shouted over a crowd of people and too many given so the 30 children had no idea what was going on or who they were following. No bands/bibs were given so children didn't have a visual of who they should be with. When parents were watching from the side, we were told to go upstairs and watch as we were 'in the way'. This we did but by the time I got to the viewing platform I couldn't see my LO with their group or anywhere else for that matter. I went back downstairs and found her wandering around lost on her own. I returned her to the group and informed the marshal who hadn't even noticed they were missing. This happened again on another piece of apparatus too, again the marshal was informed but couldn't care less so I have huge concerns about Bounce's Health and Safety. I also noticed that children could get out the front door very easily. There are a lot of unsupervised children on this site and after this experience, would not host a party at this place until this is addressed. I have emailed and called re: my concerns but no-one there has had the courtesy to call back. As much as I hate kids play area parties in malls, they are significantly better knowing that your LO is in a secure environment.

Just been down and definitely all boarded up. Such a shame as nowhere to take the kids cycling or skateboarding now. You'd think Dubai municipality would think these things through. I really don't understand why the cycle track wasn't extended along the whole length of the new corniche. So much for promoting healthy lifestyles!

Sorry to highjack the the thread but are there any resort/hotel recommendations for somewhere that has a decent kids club/activity centre. I will be going solo on holiday with my 2 kids (5 and 7) and would like somewhere that will keep them busy but want a bit of 'me' time too. TIA

Our car rego is due next month and I know there are a few things that will prevent the car passing its inspection. We have an old Ford Explorer. Does anybody know of a good general garage that can do repair work? I really don't want to go back to Al Tayer as they charge the earth, take forever and have very poor customer service. We're not going to resell the car so it's not really important to keep the service documentation with them. Any recommendations appreciated. TIA

I have worked in 2 schools here (profit and not for profit) and that seems in line with my experience for teachers. We had several staff marry this year and they will lose their benefits from Sept. As soon as you get married then they transfer you onto a local contract (assume then that you would also be sponsored by your husband). My husband receives nothing in way of benefits from his company (no housing, health care, flights, school fee reductions/free education for kids) so that didn't work for us as they said it was school policy not to give benefits if you were married. However, I'd still argue the case with your school. Good luck!

You can buy Emirates ticket Dubai to Koh Samui which will end up being cheaper than buying individual internal tickets. Depending on age of child, then maybe fly from Koh Samui to Phuket with Bangkok Airways. It can be along day and alot of messing/waiting around depending on who you book it through. Many airlines fly Phuket to Bangkok. Might be worth checking with BAngkok Airways if they do any internal flight travel passes. Chiang Mai in the north is also beautiful and shows a different side to Thailand. Whatevre you do, you'll have a great time there.

After recieving our first E-life bill 5 months ago and realising we'd been charged the wrong amount, put on the wrong account package and a few service issues I have made numerous calls, e-mails and visits and got nowhere. Always told it's with a different department that they can't forward me to or give a name for me to speak to. It's Russian roulette I think. If it goes well, you're fine but if one it does go wrong; it's a massacre.

You could consider not putting your youngest into FS1 and that would save you a little money or look at a cheaper alternative for FS1 at a nursery but that might mean more running around. It might 'buy' you a little time while you consider returning to work, your salary and the logistics of pick up/drop offs, etc. Safa Primary School is around 32k per yr from FS2 to Y6 and around 22k for FS1 (although they have no places) but have you thought about what you will do when your eldest goes to Y7 where most places are 50k+ per yr?

I am looking for a British or UK qualified doctor based in Jumeirah or Umm Sequeim for family/paediatric medicine. I was seeing a lovely doctor at GMC but sadly she has moved on and was really unhappy with the alternative doctor they gave me as an alternative so looking for some new recommendations. Thanks

Tacobelle - wish we hadn't bothered either but thought that getting the whole lot as a package would be easier. We're not bothered about the TV as we get most stuff on DVD and downloads; just handy for news and kids channels and also to have it in the maid's room. Monkeyface - I did go to the service centre and they were the ones that told me to e-mail them! Guess another trip it is to the service centre. I am so cross with them as they told me at the service centre that the package I wanted I couldn't have with e-life and they made me sign for something else and when I got home I checked their website and it says that I can! I just feel like I am constantly chasing my tail with them and it's a waste of time complaining BUT I don't want to pay money for a service that I am not receiving nor that I requested. (Oops - sorry - started to rant!).

Ladies, thanks for all your help. We have got her down now. The maintenance guys from our compound were around so they climbed the tree and we got her down. She's a bit shaken (understandably) but seems ok. Again, many thanks.

Thankfully we have found the cat but she is stuck up a tree - maybe about 50ft. We tried for 2 hours to get her down last night but she just went further up so we left in the hope she would come down herself but as she's been an indoor cat, I doubt she has the skills to get down. She's obviously stressed and been without food and water for 36 hours. Any ideas on how we can get her down? Can we call the fire brigade?

Yes - this is the best match I found to put on the posters. It didn't have the squashed up face that I'd associate with a Persian. Thanks for adding the link. The fur on her back is more of the brown colour than the cream though.

Ladies please help. We adopted a beautiful female long-haired siamese cat yesterday afternoon. We put her in the kitchen overnight but she manged to get upstairs (think the internal door wasn't closed properly) and climbed out off my DS' bedroom window and presumably jumped off the balcony onto the wall below. We found her collar on the window sill this morning. We've been out searching for her since 7am but nothing yet. I'm off to put some notices up at Spinneys and around the neighbourhood. DM and Feline friends have been informed and I shall contact the Vets close by too. I've advised the previous owner as they don't live too far away (about 1km) and thought she might try and find her way back there and searched around there too. She's not been chipped as has always been a house cat. Is there anything else I can do??? She has dark brown face, ears and tail, gorgeous blue eyes and cream/light brown fur. My number is zero 5 zero 8 four 7 eight 9 five nine. I feel so bad as we've only had a short amount of time and LOs are so upset. :-(((

Not much left in the BOGOF stuff at MOE - don't they usually do the BOGOF at the end of the sale period? Today is the last day for the 20% off and you can sign up for it in store if you want to.

Just been to Next in MOE and there was not much left at all. The BOGOF is good if you can find anything and brings the cost down to the price you'd pay in the UK sales.

We stayed in a hotel in Unawatuna last Eid for a week and had a lovely time with kids aged 5 and 2. When we were there, they were just testing the new inland highway which should reduce travel time from the airport to south coast to about 1.5hrs - a huge difference - so hopefully that will be in full swing now. Unawatuna was a great place to say - the beach is nice and plenty of restaurants/bars along serving a variety of foods at all budgets. PLenty of fried rice, pasta, toasted sandwiches, etc for the kids. The only thing about the south coast beaches is that they can be quite rough so you need to keep an eye on the kids. Transport is easy to arrange - a driver with a minibus will cost around $50-$60 a day. Try and make the trip to Yala National Park as the kids will love it and the elephant orphanages (about 2.5hrs from the airport) are worth a visit. Can't help with accommodation but I'm sure you'll find something suitable if you do a google search.

I thought I missed it too when we were away over Eid but I asked in the Jumeirah branch last week and they said they were not doing one this year :-( ....something about all the shop closures and openings they were doing. Didn't make much sense but there you go. I'm gutted too as it's a great place to stock up on books and all other kinds of random stuff.

Our maid is heading home. We have cancelled the visa and booked her flight so what do we do to get the deposit back. I read a while ago (can't find the thread) that DH needs to take her to the airport and go to one of the immigration counters with her and he gets some kind of paperwork and the deposit back. Is this the case? If not, what is the procedure? And, does DH need to do it or can I (DH doesn't want to take any time of work)? Thanks

We have a 2yr old cat who has been with us for about a month. He was using the litter box fine but now has started to p** on our rugs. Thankfully, the other stuff is still getting done in the litterbox (which is kept clean) but I have no idea why he is doing this when he wasn't previously (so ruling out the change in home). Is it a territory thing? There are alot of other cats around where we live - but it's not spraying that he is doing. Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks for the advice. I had a look at a few of my neighbours gardens to see what they had in that didn't look too wild and went with those although the ficus looks quite good and bushy so would offer shade; maybe I'll get one for a big pot like you sugessted Green-ish. Thanks Apricot - Fancy the idea of growing a papaya tree - where can I get the seeds from?

We are renewing our maid's visa and need to arrange her medical but her health card has expired and she is unable to do the medical without a health card (at Al Barra hospital). So 2 questions; is there anywhere we can get her medical done without a healthcard? How/where do we get the health card - is there a simple way we can renew? Thanks

There's also the Manchester Museum (part if the university campus on Oxford Road) which has a few good exhibits - mummies, animals and a T-Rex skeleton. Further down the road is the Whitworth Art Gallery that may have some kids activities on - check their websites. In the city centre, there is the big wheel, the Urbis building. In Salford Quays there is the Imperial War Museum and the Lowry Gallery as well as the shopping outlet there. Depending on where you are staying then you could get a train to East Didsbury (or bus to Didsbury village) and walk up to Fletcher Moss Park (good for a run around) and across the road is Didsbury Park which has a good play area. There are plenty of cafes/pubs/restaurants too. As already mentioned there is the Chill Factor E, Legoland and Trafford Centre. Hope that helps.

What's the diving like here? Any dive sites that are recommended? Have just got back from diving in SE Asia and would be keen to keep my skills up. Do the diving centres include equipment and how much are you looking at per dive? Going to do some of my own research but would be good to have some info from those who've done it recently. Thanks

Left the computer on when I went out this afternoon and DH came back to find some unresponsive debugger file on it. I tried to remove it using online guidance but now it won't reboot and we don't have the original install disks. Can anyone recommend a computer repair person near Jumeirah that I can take this to? Don't want to lose the data on it. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Currently there are no direct flights to Bali; you'll have to change somewhere. Last year we flew Emirates to Jakarta and then continued with Garuda to Bali (still part of the Emirates ticket). We then flew Air Asia to Singapore, stopped for a few days and then Singapore to Dubai. A stop off in Singapore or KL is quite nice if you have the time. You can book it all with Emirates as one ticket but think they code share with Malaysian airlines or you could go with Singapore ariline too.
