Dr Braithwaite at American Hospital. I'm delivering my 2nd child with her. After complications with my first, I thought I wanted a c-section this time round but she convinced why a natural birth would be better. I think a lot of Drs wouldn't have talked me round and let me go through with unnecessary c-section.

I'm waking up during the night with a dead leg! It's so weird, never had this with my first! I'm also sooooo much bigger than what I was at 6 months with my first, I look heavily pregnant! Other thank that, keeping well and surviving the summer!

Hi ladies, can I join you? I'm expecting baby no 2 on 29th nov. I'll be delivering in American Hospital with same Dr who delivered my first, she was fab. I'm feeling very nauseous which I didn't have first time round!

Hi, I live on the Palm and I have just had a baby. Some areas are suitable for walking with a pram e.g. the Shoreline apartments on right side on the Palm, there's shops/restaurants on this side. I live in the Marina Residence apartments and there's not really anywhere for me to walk as there is a stretch of road which doesn't have a pavement, so not ideal. Hope this helps

I've just gave birth at the american hospital using Dr Braithwaite, I can't praise her enough. She is approachable, funny and is completely honest with everything that's going on. I had a traumatic birth and she was amazing through it all - go see her!!

For those ladies who have given birth in the American Hospital - are you pressured into breasteeding by the midwives/doctor? I'm undecided, I think I'll attempt it but as a first time mum, I think I would feel more confident using bottles as I would be able tell how much the baby has had.

Interesting story Dollymud! Glad everything was ok - sounds like it was quick thinking from Dr Braithwaite. parichehr - I don't think you'll get anyone who has used both Dr Raj and Dr Braithwaite to make a comparison - why don't you do a search on the forum and read the different stories?

Hi, I'm with Dr Braithwaite, although haven't given birth yet (9 weeks to go!) I just moved here in May so I'm pretty new as well. Any appointments I've had with Dr Braithwaite have been good, she seems really relaxed about things which is good for putting my mind at ease. I've read loads of good reviews about her also. I'll be able to give you a better update once I've had the baby!

I'm finding it difficult to find neutral coloured outfits (haven't found out the ***) in Dubai. Think I'll buy one pink outfit and one blue anyway! I have way too many neutral baby grows in newborn and 0-3 months if you need any. All donations from other mums. I was looking at them the other day wondering how on earth they were all going to get worn! Aww thanks, although my friends keep telling me not to buy too many neutrals cos as soon as the baby is born I'll want to dress them in boy or girl colours so I'm probably worrying about nothing!

I'm also reading Ina May Gaskins Guide to Childbirth after reading so many good reviews about it. Some of it is a bit hippy-ish (such as she doesn't agree with Ultrasounds) however there's loads of info about labour and how to relax. I'm pretty open minded about getting an epidural however after reading nutty's thread about the issues her friend had with a hospital out here I'm terrified!

I haven't found the heat as bad as I had expected but I really hate the humidity. I've only been in Dubai since April and this is my first pregnancy. I've been keeping really well although recently I've started to get sore around my hips, especially at night. I'm wondering if it's the start of SPD (I really shouldn't google symptons!), going to mention it at my appointment Saturday. I'm finding it difficult to find neutral coloured outfits (haven't found out the ***) in Dubai. Think I'll buy one pink outfit and one blue anyway!

It's probably a way for the hospitals to make more money! I never actually got the results of my test, I emailed my Dr to enquire about it but she said that if I hadn't heard from her then there was probably no issue....

Hi, I had my Glucose test at the American Hospital a few weeks ago (this is my first pregnancy so have nothing to compare it to). They told me I was to fast for 9-10 hours so they recommended I come in for appointment in the morning and start the fast from midnight the night before. When I got there, I got a blood test, then I had to drink the sugary drink and get another 2 blood tests. I was there for 3 hours in total, it's really boring so make sure you take a book!

I bought my pram yesterday and have ordered a cot, very exciting! I've still got loads of things to get but I delibrately left it late so I had stuff to keep me occupied over the summer! I am totally dreading labour and the thought of losing all dignity. I've been trying not to think about it but it's getting closer and closer. I'm such a wimp with pain so god knows how I'll cope!

Hi all - does anyone fancy meeting up for a coffee (decaf of course!!) next week? I'd love to meet some girls going through the same thing at the same time. I'm 28 yes old and from UK and will be going back to give birth but thought I could meet some ladies before I go? I'm in Palm Jumeirah so anywhere is quite convenient. I'm 28, come from UK and also live on the Palm! Email deleted edited by LAD on 25/06/2011

Hi ladies, I'm due end of September with first baby and staying here! Seem to have had big growth spurt over past couple of weeks! Am delivering at American hospital.... anyone signed up for ante-natal classses yet? AH classes are over a weekend but that may be a bit intense for us :\: Hi, I'm also delivering at American Hospital. One of the questions I was going to ask at my next appointment was about ante natal classes as I haven't been to any. How long do the classes run for and when are you meant to start going to them? I have no idea about this kind of thing as this is also my first!!

Hi all, nice to hear from the September ladies again! Got my Dr appointment next week so will see how much weight I've put on! I'm not too fussed to be honest, it's just my belly that's big. Although because of the heat I haven't been as active so dread to think what I'll be like at the end!!! I'm staying here to give birth (the hospitals here are way nicer than the one I'd be going to in Scotland). Not looking forward to July/August as everyone seems to be going home, so I'm up for meeting up in July/Aug for some morale support! x

Hi, I've just moved to the Palm (been in Dubai a grand total of 4 weeks!) I'm on the right side of the Palm and stay in the Marina Residence apartments, I don't have view of the beach but I do have the view of the Marina which is lovely. the apartments are great with huge outdoor terrace. If you're looking for a beach view, your probably best looking at Shoreline apartments on the right side of the Palm. There could be other buildings which I'm not aware of (as I said I'm just new as well) There's an Australian bar/restaurant on the Palm called Bidi Bondi which might make you feel at home! The estate agents we used were Allsopp & Allsopp, they were really good and showed us apartments based on what we were looking for. Hope this helps

It could be down to the fact they can't afford the fees at American Hospital or their insurance doesn't cover them and they've made up this story for some weird reason. I plan on giving birth at the American Hospital and all the reviews I've read have been great (and I spent a lot of time researching!!) The way I see it, you don't get the luxury in the UK to choose hospitals/doctors (you take what you're given in my area) so I'm just glad that I have the opportunity to deliver in a hospital like the American

Hi ladies, can I join as well? I'm due 15 September (I had added to the previous thread on September due date) I've just moved to Dubai 3 weeks ago from Scotland. Got my first appointment booked 5th June with Dr Braithwaite from American Hospital. Hope you're pregnancies are all going well, my bump seems to have exploded since I got out here, I blame the sun (nothing to do with Krispy Kreme's lol!) xx

I'm new, been here nearly 3 weeks (moved here from town near Glasgow). Love it so far although I know it's early days and I still need to deal with the summer heat! Not working at the moment as I'm pregnant but would like to get something once the baby is a bit older. This forum is great for someone new, lots of great advice from the ladies

Hi, I'm due early Oct (around 8th) so am 18 weeks at the moment and this is my first baby. I'm with Dr Azza at Medcare and am very happy with her. Is anyone going to antenatal classes nearer the time? I live in the Marina and would have gone to the Bumps and Babes coffee, but I don't think it's on at Ibn Battuta anymore is it? I think I read somewhere that some locations of the coffee mornings had changed. IBN Battuta would have suited me as I'm currently staying in Discovery Gardens until we move into our apartment. Where are antenata classes held - is it through your clinic? I've still to register with a dr

Hi ladies, hope you don't mind me gatecrashing your thread as I'm due in September (15th)! I've just moved to Dubai a week ago, so I'm interested to speak to other pregnant ladies over here as this is my first, so all very new to me. I got a tour of maternity ward at City Hospital, it looks lovely, so think I will be choosing there to deliver. Just need to find an Obst/Gynae now, however waiting on my insurance card coming through. Would appreciate any advice xx

Thanks for replies. I didn't go along to the one today (wasn't sure if people were going) but I'd definitely go to the one next Monday if anyone fancies it? I haven't found a dr yet although I did get a tour of the maternity ward at the City Hospital, it's lovely - more like a hotel than hospital. Keep your dr recommendations coming!! xx

I think the place they sent it to was in Nicosia in Cyprus, not sure where you are getting married but if it was nearby you could probably take it to the ministry yourself? Best thing to do is find out what registry office your marriage will be going through and email them direct to ask for their advice, they were really good when I emailed them. I didn't get married in a registry office, it was a hotel in Cyprus, but your registrar will be aligned to a town hall - just depends what area in Cyprus you got married in. (It was Protaras I got married so it was the Paralimni Town Hall everything went through) Hope this helps

I got married in Cyprus and I'm currently going through the attestation process. I'm still based in the UK (although flying out to Dubai tomorrow!) I had to send my wedding certificate to the Muncipal building in Paralimni and they sent it onto the the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice in Cyprus to be apostilled (attested) - that all went through ok. The UAE Embassy in UK said I then had to send it onto the Cyprus High Commission in London to get the apostille verified, which I did and that went ok. Where the confusion starts for me now is the UAE Embassy UK said it needs to be stamped by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office UK however the FCO are saying they can't put a stamp to a foreign document, so UAE are saying the can't legalise it!!! Total nightmare I am having, so I'm just taking my certificate out here to Dubai to see what can be done - at the end of the day I have the apostille which has been issued by Cyprus - if we were a Cypriot couple this would be satisfactory, not sure why the UAE Embassy in London are being so difficult. I'm hoping the embassy out here will be easier to deal with.

We're officially in the second trimester now yaaaay!! I haven't yet moved out to Dubai, coming out at the end of April once I've had my 20 week scan in the UK. What should I do once I get out in relation to getting a doctor appointment? I'm covered under my husband's health insurance (didn't think I was originally) but I'm not sure how the healthcare system works. Do I arrange an appointment with the hospital first?

I would definitely be up for meeting up/going to the one of the coffee mornings I haven't yet moved to Dubai - coming out in April from Sunny Scotland, so would be good to meet people as babies and Dubai are all completely new to me!! I am also totally dreading the summer, I've heard the heat is horrendous, but I suppose we're as well to be heavily pregnant during the summer when you can't do anything anyway!

Thanks Pentel - I've heard mixed reports about baby stuff in Dubai. I heard there's a big baby shop in Mall of the Emirates which is good for cots etc - is it still better to buy in the UK? I'm scared to start buying stuff for shipping over because I'm only 8 weeks. Miss Balamory do you get Irn Bru in Dubai?!!! That's what I know I'll miss most (after friends and family of course!)

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, it's such a nice friendly forum!! Magicbeanza, I think the roundabout you're talking about is the one at Port Glasgow - I still can't get used to it! I thought it might be more expensive for baby stuff in Dubai, will make sure I stock up before I come out. We're looking at the marina area for renting, would like to be near restaurants/shops. I'll be over from 10th February - 17th (staying in the Hilton Jumeirah Beach) so I'll keep my eye out for any upcoming events. Thanks again x

Thanks for the replies, loads of good info there to help me. I'm from Greenock which is not far from Glasgow. I'm coming out for a week in Feb, then moving out officially in the middle of April. I've heard the summers are extremely hot, it will be even more of a shock to me since I come from one of the wettest places in Britain. I'll definitely go along to the coffee mornings, sounds like a good way to meet people. Dubai and pregnancy/babies is completely new to me so I'll be glad to get all the advice I can! Thanks x
