I also recommend him. I go to him for thyroid and blood sugars, he's great.

Yes, I have asked the manager at LuLu and got the "hopefully next week" response for the last several weeks ;-P. I agree there really isn't anything close to it as far as taste! I did try a beef pepperoni from the deli that was ok but not the same. I will keep my eye out and my fingers crossed!

You could try to buy the frozen (or "fresh" when I can find them) corn tortillas and fry them myself. They taste better than the old boxed ones. I find them frozen at Mega mart in Barwa pretty frequently. Hope that helps.....I am a fan of mexican food as well.

I just asked my son (my personal electronics guru LOL) and he said they also carry them at SAQR. Good luck in your hunt!

I am not sure what compound would suit your needs....maybe Riviera Gardens I know they are about 10 minutes from the school but I don't know what they run. We lived there like 9-10 years ago and they were nice, haven't seen them since though. they are very spacious and have a nice gym, pool area and I have heard a small store, nursery, etc. We currently live in a stand alone in the area.

Hello! We used the 5 gallon jugs with a cooler when we first arrived (sometimes they will deliver refills) but then we got a reverse osmosis under the sink system (easier than dealing with those jugs!). We installed it ourselves but the equipment only cost about 600QR. I think most of the bottled water is ok. I mean I have tried several brands and haven't found one to be much better than the other...although DH seems to prefer Aquafina. Again, hope that helps.

Hi there and welcome! I have 2 boys (ages 9 and 14) that go to the Lagona campus. We have been ok with the school so far. It was brand new and had a few kinks to work out but as the year went on most seemed cleared up. The teachers that my boys have had have been great, except for the easy Arabic (nice enough just doesn't seem to teach as much as they could). I hope that helps.

I completely understand how you feel but after seeing the praise of Dr. Tariq Sheikh here on EW I made an appointment with him. I am very happy with him. I believe he is better than the doc I had in the states. He is educated in England and his English is really good. Hope that helps.

Hello and welcome! My children (13 and 8) were in an American system but when we came to Doha were not able to find space in any of the American system schools. They are currently enrolled at Newton International in Lagoon (new school) who have the British system. They seem to be adapting fine (they are a little behind in French and Arabic). I haven't really noticed any difficulties with the switch other than getting used to the difference in the grading system. Hope that helps! Feel free to contact me at t m 0 8 h a d i a 7 1 at yahoo dot com if you have any other questions. Good luck!

MariaV - we are from the Chicago area as well and this is our 2nd winter here (last one was about 8 years ago). After coming from the northern winters we too are greatly enjoying this (reminds me of spring). The boys are enjoying the weather as well. Were you from Chicago itself or suburbs? We are from the southwestern suburbs (near Orland Park).

Ok, so today I checked family foods in al Rayyan, no luck with any fragrance free laundry soap. Also checked Lulu gharaffa, no luck. Will try Carrefour or Marks and Spencer later this week. Thanks for all the suggestions though. I know when I find it I plan on stocking up!

I use Tide as well with good results. Does anyone happen to know where I might find perfume free detergent? I used Tide free in the states but cannot find it here (hubby has terrible alergic reaction to perfumed soap). I have tried using vinegar in the rinse to help remove any trace of soap. TIA

Hi all! Went to Barwa on Thursday. The did have spinach dip seasoning (I think it is actually a veg soup but has the recipe for spinach dip on the back) by Lipton. Not bad. Didn't see any dried ranch seasoning though. Thanks for the tips about the sale items! Picked up quite a few things this weekend.

I completely understand as I have recently moved to Qatar with my 8 and 13 year old. The youngest was more concerned than the oldest. We just kept talking about the move as we were excited (we really were!). We talked about how the lifestyle was here and all the things we would do. We also talked about our yearly vacations back home, etc. He seemed to understand and has adjusted well to Qatar. He has already made friends at school and seems quite happy. I wouldn't worry too much, when you arrive and get settled in you will enjoy it too! Best of Luck!

Popeyes is similar to KFC. They have fried chicken and such although I believe it is a little spicier.

Has anyone ever tried the www.sparkpeople.com website or thought of making a Doha group? They have many nutritional tools and food diaries, etc. They also have free exercise videos you can watch online. Looking forward to reading more posts on this as I am currently trying to lose weight and get in shape.

I have 2 boys there (year 8 and 4) and the kids seem to enjoy it. I know the school is new so hopefully they will get a little more organised as the year goes on (the first week was pretty chaotic). We are semi-new to Qatar and this is our first school year here so I am only able to compare to US schools. Looking forward to a pleasant year!

EW = love reading this thread! Coming from a harsh Chicago winter we are so far enjoying the warmth and sun! Having lived here before I know how hot it gets so I am not looking forward to the humidity but so far it has been pretty pleasant.

We lived here about 8 years ago for a year and then returned about 1 1/2 months ago. We loved it then and love it now, just wish finding a nice villa was easier (governmental housing).

RachelA - that's too bad. I don't think the employer is willing to give him a letter like that. The gentleman in charge of housing seems to be the one they want handling this. I am just trying to speed this process up (LOL, not working out very well by the way :-)). Thanks again for the input!

LOL, not off the wall at all. Actually that was one of the first things I asked for. Silly me thinking it would save us a ton of time as we could narrow it down to a few complexes we were interested in. They apparently have no such list (according to the guy at DH work who is in charge of this stuff). I guess that would be too easy ;P I will keep searching. The villa we are in now isn't that bad I would just like one that is a little roomier in a larger compound. Thanks again!

Thanks. We are looking for a compound with facilities (pool, tennis, etc.). I did go and look at Y compound villas which are stunning but not sure if they are governmental as they are still finishing construction. I will keep checking back for additional replies. Thanks again!

We have recently arrived from America and are looking for a villa compound (governmental housing). Does anyone know of any really nice large villas? I would appreciate any advice, thanks. We are also looking for a good used car/crossover if anyone has any ideas. We are checking qatarliving.com and qatarsale.com. Thanks again to all.
