I know this thread is going slightly off topic but regarding the price of food - as I am recovering from Cancer I am very much more aware of where my food comes from and try to source food from countries that I can trust doesn't use the pesticides that are banned in most Western communities. I choose to pay way over the odds for celery from USA rather than the cheaper variety from China, same goes with red onions (India) mandarins (Pakistan) These are just a few examples so buying my butter from France or UK rather than Eygpt, Saudi Arabia, India etc is not so much as sticking with brands I know and a life style choice it's a health choice, which obviously has financial implications but the health of me and my family comes first. Hey dally! further off topic but my husband just recovered from cancer. I'm also trying to source my food directly from the farm and as organic as possible. Would be interesting if we could exchange email id and share what we are buying from where ..let me know if ur interested.

Bad experiences with dessert cart have been reported it a lot. Also Not everything on the website is actually a bargain. I was looking to buy Anastasia Beverly Hills lipsticks. They are double their original(US) price in their salon in downtown. So I thought I'll buy online only to find that most Dubai websites including desert cart and a lot of makeup sellers on Instagram are selling them for more than that!!!! What a horror!

I delivered in American hospital twice. Last one being may 2015. Excellent hospital, excellent care! I was with dr raj. She doesn't scan on every visit. In my first pregnancy I was with another doctor who only user American hospital to deliver. She had her own clinic and equipment but she didn't scan each time aswell. However it might be different for u as u are high risk. I have no info on this. In terms of the hospital I would always go back there as the mid wives, staff etc are the best! Literally did not feel one needle going in and out of my body... That's how gentle and well trained they are:-)

Hey There, For Snacks : I usually pack a fruit and pancakes, sandwiches, cheese slices etc and if they can packed in air tight containers it would stay fresh. I use Tupperwear brand or any good quality plastic wear. There are good variety options in Carrefoure and Lulu. Regarding stickers i use waterproof stickers for bottles and lunch boxes and personalise them so they won't wear off easily. Hey! Thanks for your reply. Where do u get em personalized from?

I can't help you with induction day but I think they will contact you closer to the time. Uniforms - I have heard rumours that the uniform is changing so I would wait a while yet. You can get second hand uniforms from the school but the shop is only open half an hour a week (run by a parent). I only buy second hand shorts now as they are very robust. I buy new shirts though. I buy 5 sets of uniforms because I am lazy.... For FS1 I bought 5 pairs of socks from Marks andSpencer as they are better quality than the Zaks ones. I found a small backpack most useful and the book bag useless. I always buy 2 hats. You will need 1 pair of black shoes and 1 pair of sports shoes. you also need 2 drawstring bags - swimming and PE. I get a white permanent marker and write their names really big on them so they can identify their stuff. You will need a pair of navy swim shorts and a towel (they prefer the ones with a hood where they poke their head through as it makes walking to the pool easier). I wouldn't go a bento box. 2 separate snack boxes is better. For FS1 they have a fruit only snack which goes in a separate place to second snack. You put the snacks in tubs at the door on arrival. I used a soft padded cooler bag in FS1 but by FS2 90% of kids use those small hard cooler boxes. you need a water bottle too. I had 2 sets of identical boxes/bottles with shaped name labels so my kids could pick out their own stuff. Do we necessarily need to buy the drawstring bags sold with the uniform or can use our own too?

Heya! Just bringing this thread up as my new thread on this topic isn't getting much love:-) We bought are uniforms this weekend. We found everything except for the swimming kit. The process was pretty smooth and not much of a hassle. I personally thought it was very streamlined. Also I tried on sizes but the same size for uniform and PE kit fit my daughter. My main concern now are lunch boxes. What lunch boxes do u buy? Which ones work best? Also I want to know if it's a must to buy the bags available in the uniform shop with JPS logo or I can buy my daughters fav character bag for her?

Hey there! My daughters starting FS1 at JPS this September. Looking for other mums whose kids are starting there or are already there to share nervousness and share advice too. How do you guys label clothes/water bottles/inch boxes etc as everything needs to be labeled. What sort of lunch boxes/bottles work best? What snacks work best and stay fresh? Looking forward to hearing from all the mums out there!

Try Theibo---know that |I have really messed the name up -- but also some stores known as Brands for Less Theibo is in a number of malls, Ibn Battuta, Oasis Center, Outlet Mall, and I am sure some others. Brands for Less are located in Satwa, Dierra, and a newish one close to the Mall of the Emirates. Selection and sizes can be hit or miss, but I have bought many cold weather clothes from there over the years and for good prices. It's Tcheibo They also hVe a store in outlet mall.

Bought hubby a jacket from the big LuLu in Karama back in February as he went to London for 4/5 days. It was 60 dhs and he says it kept him pretty warm. Not sure if they would have any now... Coz back in February everyone had sales on their winter stock. Checking sacoor or other stores in outlet mall might be fruitful also.

Heya! Saw your other post regarding American hospital and now this for gyne recommendation. Delivered at the American hospital in 2011 and now in 2015, may. The care is excellent. The nurses and midwives are extremely sweet, very very well trained, very gentle hands and I would certainly not change my hospital for my next one. Doctor, I used doctor rajalakshmi at the American hospital. She's good but she's not lovey dovey... Gives good advice but she doesn't console you... She is more like "get moving with life" sort. However I have spoken to other people who say she's very supportive etc... Good luck!

Hi Lovebop I would like to know more about the midwives and staff at American hospital as I plan to start with Dr. Raj soon. It will be 33 weeks by the time I start with her and based on your experience would like to know more about your experience with American hospital as I have never been there before, Hey there! Just realized u had posted for me. The hospital is lovely. When I was delivering the first time my doctor could either deliver at Medcare on alwasl road or American and she was all praise for American hospital. She said the midwives and staffs at American are way better than any other place and much more calm. In the week that I was at the hospital I didn't come across a single nurse/ staff that wasn't going out of their way to comfort me. My anesthetist was fab aswell. He stayed by my side and kept checking me for equal and complete numbness around the required area. When I shared it with my friends... They were clueless coz during their deliveries at other hospitals they were not checked for numbness. I don't how it will be this time around but I'm certainly going back based on my personal first experience.

Agreed! Lots of threads on here with tipping etiquette etc. About 2 weeks or so ago I posted a thread about visiting a salon that's highly recommended here. I wanted to tip and the receptionist said its not allowed. Came back here to check if that's the case with regular clients of the salon on this forum and I never saw that thread again. I don't see what I did wrong?

You can buy them from dragon mart & they are similar to the ones it Patchi for fraction of the price, then buy chocolate & tulle and wrap the chocolate & attach it to the gift. There is also Lee chocolate in Mirdif city centre, it is cheaper than patchi There is also a lady in AD who prepare gifts & baskets and she delivers to Dubai Look for Choco Tulip on FB Thank you for all the leads dear! Do you know which section in dragon mart or a particular shop? Would be happy to go and hav a look. Will also check out the other lady u mentioned:-)

Well before everyone rips me apart. I myself am pakistani. Reason I ask coz it can get pretty uncomfortable with pakistani or other similar nationality crowd of a very low income bracket. I'm going with a small kid and am pregnant myself so I have my concerns. Even if going alone I would have a concern and would keep it in mind. Your explanation only makes your previous statement worse if you ask me. I do not wish to explain anything to anyone. I asked a particular question because I needed to make a decision based on it. I don't intend any ill to anyone. I got the information I wanted and this thread is over for me. there is loads said on here that I don't agree to or find rude but I choose to not make assumptions about the OP on the base of it. Others do and hence threads on here are less information more fighting n branding now a days just like this one. Two informative replies and now it's a battleground. Anyways Peace to everyone. No more commenting from me:-)

Think kitchen, lower ground floor, Dubai mall has some good very reasonable priced dinner sets. Correlle is great for daily use... Have seen some correlle designs in LULU but we're very old designs so didn't buy. Anywhere else sells correlle in Dubai?

We have done general admission and grandstand over the years. The general admission is ok and there is seating although I think you would have to be there early to get one. There are families there with picnic rugs but it is mostly men. I have never seen a lot of children, just a few here and there. A lot of people come down from the stands sometime during the evening to get to the fence and parade ring where the World Cup is on display. There is only a food court and no alcohol avail in the general admission and the ladies toilets, as usual, have long queues. I think you would have a better night getting a sitter as getting to/from the course is usually a long, tedious process as well. It is a fun night though and definitely should be on the 'to do' list once. Thanks for the feedback cherry ripe. For the men in the grandstand area.. Is it Asian men or decent crowd? Also I'm trying to find race timings but can't seem to online. Will give them a ring after the weekend but what time do the races start and finish on th final day?

Hey there Quick question for people who've been the race. I've got a 3.5 years old and looking at the website it looks like the only place I can go is the general admission area...that's the only place under 5's seem to be allowed. Apron views and all other areas have a 5 and above child policy. Does any one have any experince of going to the general admissions area? Is it good fun? I'm pregnant aswell so not sure if I can sit on the ground....are there sufficient seats? Bottom line is it worth the hassle or should I just arrange a sitter for the little one and go to apron views?

Does anyone happen to be selling any Julia Donaldson tickets for the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature? My little boy is such a big fan! Sadly, they are sold out. Hey there I'm 26 weeks at the moment. About two months ago I was looking for prenatal yoga classes in downtown/business bay/ difc area. I found two: gfx fitness in executive towers and urban yoga in aspect tower(part of executive towers) but unfortunately both had closed their prenatal classes at the very time. They said there just wernt enough people to continue with. You can call them again and see if they started something. Urban energy fitness are doing some classes in downtown/south ridge area & they would also come to ur home for private sessions. Look them up and give them a call. As for the massage I would like to know as well if someone comes home for an pre-and post delivery massage. edited by Lovebop26 on 12/02/2015

Hey there! Elsa is opening up her own clinic. My friend goes to her. I'll check with her and update you. I delivered my fist child in American hospital and my experience with the hospital staff was fab! Can't say enough about how helpful, sweet and knowledgable the staff was. Pregnant again at the moment and seeing Dr raja Lakshmi. She's great, full of information and very straight forward. I agree, at times find it annoying that I can't directly speak to a nurse when I call regarding anything, I have to put down my query and wait for the nurse to call but the return call usually comes within half an hour..... All in all I love the facilities in American hospital and completely trust the doctor and staff.

Marina is the place I would say..but not anymore as there aren't any more of their traditional old wood style pieces. A lot of mechanical and grunge in there now. I've seen a lady exhibit in Times Square...when park in the basement and go to take the travalator to level G... Her stuff I all around that space.
