Lovebop Please post your recipe here so that we can all try it . I knead my dough in processor and roll by hand I am now thinking of rolling and freezing some for the week since i am working . Have you tried this? Hey there I have never tried freezing dough but have tried freezing roti and it turns out fine once reheated. U can make 10/15 and freeze. Use at dinner time. Also I'd like to know which food processor do you ladies use to make the dough? Can I have the name and model number. I'm looking to buy one to reduce the maids work load.

Sorry to piggyback this thread. But, I was wondering if i can also get a look at your recipe. I knead my dough in a food processor as it takes too much time for me if i do it by hand. However, I am unable to get my rotis thin and soft. I have tried rolling them as thin as possible. But it still comes as a bit thick. I would love to know how to make them thin. Can be the fault of ur atta! I tried many different attas. Which one do u use? Do u add salt and oil to ur dough?

There is another company but it's just a sister concern of howdra and charged same amount of money. I think 3500 is fine when u add up everything it's not too bad. Just a matter of having 3500 to spare every month.

I don't think they exist. They look awesome in adds but when u get them home they don't work. I bought one 2-3 years ago and it's just sitting in the cupboard coz it just doesn't make anything edible. I heard there is one being sold in global village right now. They are giving live demos also... Maybe worth checking out. Secondly I have a electric stove and I've figured out finally how to do perfect rotis. If ur in on making ur self I can tell u which pan to use and what to add to the atta.

I just sponsored a maid from srilanka. She was here on a visit visa. Tried her for a month and then sent her back to get visa done. She came back after one month .... It took ages to get srilankan gov procedures done. Thank god its all done now. Secondly if you've got the budget...u can look at getting a live in maid from howdra/explorer. That way you pay a higher fee per month but atleast it gives u the peace of mind that if the maid is not settling in ...they would change her and give U another one. Unfortunately don't have a budget for Howdra style agencies, they charge 4000+ a month, which i think is insane. In that case ur only option is to check adds here and on dubizzle. Approach people with Cvs that u like and line up interviews. Other than this u can use a part time cleaning company... 3-4 hours every alternate day once the baby arrives. Send the laundry out. Find a part time cook and have him come in 1-2 times a week and cook for u guys. My maid left 2 weeks before my delivery. I was in the same boat as u and it was my first baby, I was alone in Dubai. We stuck to using part time help every dYfor a few hours. Laundry went out and I had a cook come in to cook. Anything on top..my husband helped with and my sister came so she helped a bit. In the end I just got a hang of it and moved on with life.

Went for the show on Saturday. It was packed in there but as for the show...I found the first half very slow..addition of too many songs as compared to the original but the second have was powerful and much more entertaining.

Thankyou for your feed back. The stuff in there sure is stunning:-) and so are the prices:-))) Mind me asking where did you buy then? The country I come from, Paksitan, manufactures one of the most beautiful furniture and one can customize everything. I know for a fact that I can get probably 3 or 4 tables of the same or even better quality in Pakistan for the price that I'm paying for one here but I don't have the time and option of going back and getting stuff made. The pakistani shops here are just as over priced as Abdul kader.

Haven't seen myself but I'll assume the iPhone will be the same price but surely emax/sharaf DJ will be giving cash vouchers or other goodies along for free. I'd say easily a dhs300 voucher and maybe a pair of headsets...

Lolz... but that's the thing u see... I'm just bored of marina n the one and homes r us and other stores of this sort. When I moved here four years ago I couldn't get enough of marina...I loved every bit of furniture in there and now I just find it soulless...the only difference from Bloomingdales to homes are us is quality and price. Just a matter of ur pocket. Other wise the same designs and the same styles from high to low.sooner or later. I'm gravitating towards off the Beaton path shops with solid wood, beautiful grain and craftsmanship....I've been going to all these furniture stores in Jumeirah and other areas. I can surely make enough sense that if I'm paying x there compared to x in a popular shop...I'm surely getting better quality stuff....but I just wanted a little re assurance... Never mind:-)

Hiring a trainer that could work with your specific needs will be the best thing to do from what I read above. Some great trainers have been mentioned on this forum in previous threads. Maybe try and contact one to see if they can do your times and location.

300 DHS oer head for kids???? That is insane!! And too of that such pathetic service! You must complain to the owner. Maybe call another branch to get details of the owner of higher manager coz the downtown branch staff will probably suspect why ur asking and give you wrong info or not give it at all.

Happy new year to all the lovely posters! Wishing you all a fab year! Was wondering if you guys could shed some light on the authenticity of carpets and pricing in the carpet centre. I went there last year and did like some pieces. Thinking of going in this year and maybe purchasing 1 or 2 but since it's going to be my first carpet buy I'm not very confident about the quality and pricing. Have any of you previously bought there...? Will appreciate reviews from everyone:-)

Just phoned new look and they said they've stopped stocking maternity wear recently :-( Saw the range in mothercare and wasn't tempted to buy as the prices were same as normal clothes where as the quality of denim was not appealing. Still have to check out destination maternity ...will do that soon. Thanks

It's far too slow and boring. Only threads about maid issues or generally dealing with someone's misery get replies. Every other post gets a few replies and it's dead. Not much information sharing any more. Loving the new direction of threads but otherwise not finding the forum very useful.

Hello ladies I would appreciate If someone could give some feedback on the maternity range available On the next middle east website. Has any of you bought? I need to buy a pair of maternity jeans and a pair of leggings. They look nice in pictures but can't seem to figure out sizing. Next here doesn't carry maternity range so can't go instore to try. What other shops do you recommend locally for not so over priced pregnancy clothing? Thanks

May not be much help as I don't work but it really depends on ur contract. What did your contract say about leaving before the contract finished? Did u negotiate no ban if you payed 60days salary? If not then it pretty much is their right to put a ban on you if they think they need to.

I think the system at the srikankan embassy is crappy and so is back in their country. We are currently trying to sponsor a srikankan lady, she was here on visit visa. Hence once we decided to sponsor her we sent her back to get her medical done(mandatory for them to go back) ...this was a month ago and she still isn't back coz every office in srikankan wants bribe... She needs a certificate from the village officer saying that while she is gone her kids will have a proper setup to gro up in. The village officers office is only open Monday and Wednesday. Application submitted a week ago, she was told that they will visit one week. Fast forward to one week and no body came.mahe visited again and was told that they have a lot of other applications to finish before hers and cannot say when they will come....it's just horrible! On top of this we have had to pay $400 to srikankan embassy as security..I don't get security for what! She's not working for me.. Not even in the country..and I'm having to pay security money. Non refundable.

Thankyou all the lovely ladies for your responses. I read about sky dental clinics in different posts when I was searching on the forum and we took her to see a general dentist in sky dental clinic burjaman on Saturday morning. He had the same diagnosis as doctor agnus and said doing it under anesthesia is the only option for kids as young as my little one. We it the procedure done today with doctor agnus and it was a smooth process. She did a great job and my little one is home with shinny bright teeth and zero pain:-)

Personally I would never put my 3 year old under GA...there is much debate about fixing baby teeth, have a quick google. Also is she complaining about her teeth? There is ways of naturally fixing teeth also (I would personally try that option since they are baby teeth)...there is a facebook group for going the natural route...good luck! Well two of her front teeth are at the verge of being totally finished. There is very little white enamel left and once the doctor does some scaling there won't be much left..she would need some crowning on them to keep whatever is left safe. If left like this they will break off at some point. My concern is they can break as result of a fall too as kids are always playing and falling down. Any how whatever way they break I don't want her to loose her two front teeth at the age of 3. She will need to wait till 6/7 to grow em back. There are all types of kids...if other kids bully her or mock her then it can hurt her self confidence and create more trouble. The other teeth just need a bit of treatment to stop decay and then I can go the home route to keep them healthy. I am skeptical of anesthesia but the other way round she will need endless visits ..she might not co-operate as it will hurt her. Chances are she can develope fear for doctors aswell ... As for ur question ..she doesn't complain while eating or otherwise but she doesn't want to brush that area and I recently saw a bit of blood coming out of the front two teeth while she was eating. Both are enough to tell there is something going wrinkle. Would highly appreciate is any ladies could shed some light on my concerns in the original post. Thanks

I believe the marina warehouse on umm squirm road is on sale. Haven't been this year but last year the sale was insanely good. Worth a try? I also have a 7 seater(3+2+2) from home centre. Have had it for 3 years now. No problems with the frame..have had to get refilling on the cushions though.

OMG! So glad to find so many JPS mums on here! I have the same story. Applied 1st oct , assessment on 26th and offer on the 5th. We've accepted it . My girl is a October baby. So she will turn 4 next year in October. She is going to nursery at the moment. She started nursery only this September. She's toilet trained already but the nursery staff are helping the mds learn how to dress and undress. Offcourse they are assisted but they do encourage kids to do it themselves. Picking up from that I've started asking her to pull up her own pants... Put on socks n shoes .... Undress herself etc. I am also now askig her to dry herself with a tissue once she has used the toilet. Offcourse I supervise and do it if she doesn't want to but just trying to get her into the flow. As for the timings ...7.30 doesn't bother me a lot. It just means a earlie bed time. Right now my daughter goes to bed between 7pm & 8pm and wakes up 6.30am. 7.30am school means she needs to be in bed by 6pm. I would say take the spot if u feel right otherwise let her go to a nursery. Hopefully u will get a place for FS2

My maid left recently and since then I found a lot of 'odd' things have gone missing. Random things that I would never expect someone to take - one of my daughters party dresses and matching shawl, a wooden train set, a set of Peter Rabbit books, 2 pairs of my shoes, couple of tops, towels and 2 sets of duvet, pillow covers, my kitchen scales (ok weird?!!) and my new pink trainers god dammit! She only left a couple of weeks ago so its been a slow process realising exactly what she has taken but I am really upset about it as we considered her family. :( If genuinely you *know* these items are missing and have not just been mislaid (which happens) then you need to sit her down and tell her that you're not happy nor a fool and call her bluff on the old 'I will not renew' thing. If you have good reason not to trust her then why have her in your house? There are plenty of good and honest maids out there that need a job. When my nanny left with all thine stuff I mentioned earlier I was due in 2 weeks...after recovering the lost items I later realized my handicam was gone, lots of brand new under wears n bras were gone as I wasn't wearing them from many months....lots of my silk nighties were gone...all the stuff that I wasn't using due to being pregnant ....definitely a heart breaker but in the end...replaceable. If I would've lost my passports for good or the diamond jewellery etc..it would have been irreplaceable. Thus my suggestion everything really worth it: IN THE LOCK!

Well two threads of stealing maids on the same day...not very good for me as I'm looking to employ a new one but my advice would be keep everything valuable in a locked cupboard. Keep keys with you at all times. She looks desperate to leave and can possibly try to instigate you with something bigger....or maybe just disappear with it one fine day... I had a maid disappear with loads of valuables including all passports and check books, diamond jewellery and other valuable.....lucky we were that the police caught her and got every thing back to us except for a gold chain and a ring with Saphires. Since that day all my real valuables are locked away and the key is always with me.

I do remember that the sleeping area in JINS was lovely with every child's own bed etc but since i don't work I pick up my little one at 1 so sleeping conditions were not an issue. If you intend to leave your daughter till 6 then she will be going down for a nap and JINS might be more appealing. edited by Lovebop26 on 01/10/2014

What came out to me after going thru the process of going to a lot of different nurseries is that the nursery should instantly speak to you. If ur trying to convince ur self to send your child to that nursery then u just havnt been to the right one for you yet. The two problems that I found with JINS are that A. all the water play and sand play facilities are indoors thus no real feel. B. They use the lawn in front of the nursery which is not fenced. There is a constant flow of cars in between the nursery and the park. I know they put all the kids in a buggy and there are always assistants there but kids are kids. They can wander off in a split second. With blossoms they have a outdoor area for water play, they do free play painting outdoors and lots more. They also use the park outside the nursery and there is no traffic there. A maximum of a cycle maybe which puts my heart at ease. edited by Lovebop26 on 01/10/2014

I loved doing cooking classes in people's homes. You get to learn the dishes they have learnt from their families. Thai with Juree in the meadows Thai with Abeda at the thai restaurant in the marina (Siamin) Indian with my friend Sejal in Jumeirah Islands (she's not there anymore so we just cook together now we are both back in England!) Indian with Abeda (spice and aroma) when she was in Arabian Ranches but she's now in Al Barsha Arabic with Gina in Jumeirah Lake Towers. All were relaxed, informative, interesting and you met some lovely people and ate some absolutely delicious food. the only one I didn't get around to doing was Lan who teaches Vietnamese. The guys at Table 9 are running superb cooking classes. A friend of mine did their break making class - and wow! you should see the pictures of the breads they are producing from home. Spice and Aroma also ran cultural cooking trips - I never did one but they sounded amazing and the ladies I met who did them said they were superb - not sure if Abeda still runs them but definitely worth checking. edited by Clairehdp on 07/11/2012 Hey there! Reviving a very old post and wondering is Clairehdp is still on the forum and reading. If so would you have details of Juree for Thai cooking? Also is Abeda mentioned for Thai cooking & Indian the same Abeda or two different abedas. Looking forward to some help!

I know someone whose son goes there and they are pretty happy. I live close by so went for a visit, it's lovely but way too small for my liking. Out of all the nurseries in downtown/business Bay Area I found myself inclined towards Blossoms. It's inside Al manazil district in downtown. Worth checking out:-) My DD starts there in a few days.

Sorry I cannot help you over this but are you aware that if is is a small item, ie jewelery, watch etc you do not need to stand in the massive queue outside Heathrow but go through check in, security etc then immediately after security there is a VAT refund centre right there, took me ten minutes to get the right stamps done and got mmy refund on my credit card within 3 days, was a very happy bunny. good luck with your refund. I believe my refund should be between 200-300£ ..i got my goods checked at the customs counter after security checking. There was no line there...took 5 minutes for the officer to check my products and give me a stamp. He told me to get my refund outside at the travelex counter. Even if getting on the credit card I needed to stand in that travalex Que which was long and not moving.

I believe maids do prefer working for western families due to less work load and more money but I also think that these helpers become lazy and un thankful then. if they really appreciated their western employers gesture they would be good at work. I see insane amount of philipinos in my buildings play area who are alone at home all day(kids in school, employers at work) but still when they come down to the play area they can't bother to see what the kids are doing or play with them even for a minute. The employers have allowed them to use iPhones and provided internet access in which I believe is no harm but then at least they should do what they are hired for? Things like this lead for Asians to be strict in first place. I'm Pakistani and have faced issues with maids. The first one had all kinds of privileges, high salary, paid accommodation, taxi money, flew back to home country within a month of being sponsored for holiday...but she used us like a door mat, new issues everyday..more rent to pay..money to send back home..aching heels..she was like a child....I felt I had just adopted her and I ended up doing more housework than her. She used us like a door mat till she found a western expat family(within 4 months do being hired) and made us cry. We ended up firing her at the end of the fourth month, On the other hand with my next maid, we kept it fairly strict and simple and we had no problems. I wouldn't say strict is the way to go as it largely depends on the person. All I would say is GOODLUCk! It's a big gamble. edited by Lovebop26 on 16/08/2014

Hello ladies I flew back to Dubai from London yesterday, I got my goods checked by the customs officer and got my stamp too. The travelex line for cash refund was too long and not moving at all. I ended giving up 2 minutes before my flight closed and ran for the flight. I was unaware that I could put my receipts in a post box too. As it stands now... I have my receipts stamped by the customs officer and need to figure out if it is possible to reclaim it now....has any one been In this situation before? Any help will be much appreciated. Already tried calling the customs office in UK but it's closed Saturday and Sunday so need to wait till Monday to find out. Feeling a bit restless so turning to all you lovely ladies for help!
