You can order from Skinny Genie as they are 100% safe. Their muffins are safely available at many coffee places around Dubai. My favorite GF pizza is Freedom pizza and they have a dedicated GF kitchen. Their website let's you safely navigate all of their gluten free offerings. They also have some really yummy GF desserts. The Surf Cafe does a really good GF pancake and also has GF bread in the morning. Any of the Omnia restaurants offer a good selection of GF and paleo. The Omnia Baharat in the MOE has a really good GF bun for their hamburgers. It is also safe to stick to restaurants at the big hotels. My advice is to call a day ahead and let them know what you need. Another place I highly recommend is The Farm. I have Celiacs and have been reviewing places since I move here 6 months ago. There are some really great places to get groceries here too. It may not be as easy here to find things but with a little work it can be done! Best of luck! Thank you. I visited some of this places ... I MISS ITALY SO BADLY. Here in Dubai everything comes out of a BOX!! There is noone who still COOK from scratch??? I AM SO DISAPPOINTED. I miss Italy too! The good news is it is close and we can get there fairly cheap. I go often to visit family and friends and it's easier and cheaper than going home to the states. Good Luck!

The ladies at SLaM are the only ones I would trust with my color. They aren't cheap but in my experience you get get what you pay for and my hair is one place I am not willing to skimp.

Skinny Genie has great stuff as far as ordering in food and baked good. I don't care for Sweet Connections at all. There is a place in the Wasl Vita mall that is WONDERFUL. Each big supermarket has their own selections and I make my rounds at all of them. The change initiative also has some things. As for eating out you are safest at the hotel based restaurants and bigger named restaurants. Also, check you Gluten Free UAE - she has a blog and facebook page that are really helpful. Best of luck!

The accord is a nice car. If you can find an Accord Crosstour then you both could win. It is styled very much like a BMW X6 and it is quite roomie. I owned one in the US and hauled my grandbaby, daughter, and all their stuff around with no issues. Best of luck!

We recently went with Dubai Blinds. They aren't the cheapest but the blinds are very, very well made, they are warrantied 100% for a year, and they look great. Best of luck!

I was told by my Endocrinologist last week that I don't have to have a prescription for it here. She said if it made me more comfortable she would write me one. I am going this week to try and get it for my first time. I take Synthroid though, the generics don't control my Hashimoto's as well. I am really hopeful that they have what I need as I have been striking out on everything else up to this point.

Hello! I am also 42 and just relocated here :o) We brought our dog over. I hired DKC to handle all of the import stuff and I hired a US company to work with them and handle the export stuff. I can't tell you how much this helped me out! They collected my dog at the airport, they had booked her travel for me, they updated me along the way, DKC collected her at the airport here and took her through customs, and then they delivered her to the apartment. There is a lot of paperwork to be done when moving here - for you and for them - so I suggest hiring companies to take care of them. You will have to have your documents attested and such. That is a process and some companies do take care of it - ours did. You need to ask them about this up front. We only looked at apartments that were pet friendly so that would be my recommendation. What I do know is cats are a lot more welcomed by most than dogs. Best of luck with your move!!!

Cotton On in the Dubai mall has great T-shirt :) they also have 100% cotton options (not all there are). I can't wear polyester so I have to be very careful. Good Luck!

What do you want to learn? I as an IT specialist back in the US. I would be willing to help you out. I am just curious on what level on help you are wanting and what systems you are wanting to learn about. Let me know. Sorry, just reread it and it's your mum- What help does she need? When? Hello FLgirl, Thank you. Mum has retired & feels that her skill set has not kept up with technology & she's pretty nervous about doing anything now. She will be here in February for a couple of weeks - sorry, I like to think ahead! - I'm thinking a general, very basic, overview of all sorts of things. Perhaps if you were interested, I can have her start compiling a list of things & that can then be worked through. I'm thinking maybe a couple of hours for a couple of days, nothing too major, just a confidence booster really, depending on how she responds. Might you be open to something as vague as that? If so, can we get in touch to speak more? I would love to help her. I really do like her willingness to want to learn. I think your idea of her compiling a list is great. If she can get that list to me before her arrival that would be great as it will give me time to go over it all. That will give me a chance to come up with the best plan. Part of my job before I moved was creating training for Engineering software so training is something I am quite comfortable with.

Yes, that is quite pricey. I don't want to learn to apply it for others but rather would like some pointers on doing mine. Techniques change from year to year and I would like to know the latest and greatest. Thanks!

You need to go under settings and check your privacy settings, timeline settings, and you should review your general settings. Also, make sure that your timeline settings are set up so that you have to review and approve that other people tag you in. Making sure that is set keeps photos (etc) that others take and tag you in from showing up if you don't want them to. I hope this helps!

I love having FB but I do still love my privacy. I have personal reasons for having my security set the way that it is- sorry you think that it is pointless for me to have. Everyone has their own comfort levels with the way they use social media. I was trying to be helpful with my post not looking to be slammed for the way that I choose to use FB.

October is a an amazing time to go anywhere in the US that the leaves are changing color :o) It is an amazing time to travel through the Smokey mountains and see the beauty there. I am from the panhandle are of Florida originally but have traveled all over the US. What do you want to see and experience? I have so many favorite areas :o) What are your favorite things to do? Savannah, GA is a favorite town of mine. If you travel through the south/ east coast there are many amazing places. The northeast is full of amazing places but the weather will be getting cold there. The west- north or souths is amazing. Seattle is an awesome town but will be getting cold as well. :o)

Hello and welcome! I have been here for 3 weeks now and found the coffee mornings a brilliant way to meet wonderful women. I started going to them after being here just a week and must say I met some of the kindest women ever! I celebrated my birthday last week and they made it extra special! Look on the events page here on the EW site and check out the coffee mornings. They have them in different areas so there is bound to be one near you. They also have a mums group too which might work for you. The best thing you can do is try and go to one of these. I am in the marina, not sure where you are, but I am always eager to meet new people. I am from the US not that it matters at all :o) Best of luck to you and again- WELCOME!

I just started up with HealthBay Polyclinic on Al Wasl. They have a well woman program that sounds quite nice. I have a very complicated medical history and require a number of specialists so that program isn't for me. After doing a lot of research they were the number 1 place that had all the specialists I need and they work as a team. I am very happy with all of the doctors that I have seen and feel very confident that I will be well take care of here in Dubai. Best of luck!

I have had a double mastectomy. I ave had multiple different styles of implants and did try a fat transfer at one point. I am quite skinny but she took what belly fat I had to help make things look and feel better. I do no recommend this. If the fat isn't centrifuged properly you end up with very hard areas. Also, being thin can leave your tummy uneven after the procedure. I would stick to just the breasts. The key is finding a great doctor. Best of luck!

I have been here going on week 2 now. On my 3rd day some one put a cigarette down the trash chute and caught the bin on fire. They didn't know that straight away so they evacuated the whole building as all they knew was that there was a fire somewhere. It made for a very interesting day! I can't say much else exciting has really happened thus far. I think I am actually adjusting well all things considered. I guess the hardest thing for me is discovering that the simple (but NECESSARY) stomach medicine I have to take costs nearly 10 times more here. That was enough to cause some serious stomach upset. Welcome and hope things improve! :o)

I totally feel your pain! We own a car and I can't drive it until all my paperwork is done and get a UAE license. It is frustrating as the car is just sitting in the garage while my DH is away traveling for business. I am using the metro and taxis to get around. Best advice I can give is to just be patient and focus on the things that are getting accomplished :o) Best of luck to you!

Thank you ladies! As for being or not being a real coffee lover that is a hard thing to answer. I do truly love good coffee. I am Italian and adore freshly ground gourmet coffee beans turned into an amazing espresso but my body does not love this. Sadly, I have some very serious auto-immune diseases that won't allow me to enjoy a full bodied coffee or even more than one true coffee a day. Some days I have to go without all together. I do try to have 1 cappuccino a day as a treat to me. It is typically weak by any true standards but to me it is heaven. So please don't poo-poo want some one likes as to them it might just be the best thing ever. It truly is the little things in life that can make such a difference. My weak (but yummy) cappuccino makes me smile each day that I can have it simply because I can have it. Thank you all again for weighing in on this :o)

Welcome! I have just moved here from the US one week ago. I am finding the transition much easier than I had imagined. I live in the Marina and am SO happy with that choice. There was an American Women's Association here but their site seems to be shutdown. There are others groups of ways of meeting people. What are your interests?

I think you can keep your fun but look very classy doing it. I would suggest a dark pant, a patterned blouse (insert your fun here), and a blazer. I don't think you need a formal suit but something that gives a nod to a suit in a very fashion forward way. I am currently on a leave of absence from work but I am normally an Engineering Manager with a Fortune 50 company. If I was interviewing you and you came to the meeting in a smart outfit as described above you would be doing well. Best of luck to you!!! :o) Oh, the shoes, these are quite important. I LOVE heels but know they aren't for everyone. It is a great idea to keep a smart pair of flats in your closet for this very type of occasion. :o)

Wow! I almost died last year and was on A LOT of prednisone for A LONG time and I swelled up to 89kgs. I normally weigh 44-49kgs so this was a major change for me and not one I knew how to deal with. (I have health issues that keep me thin normally). What I experienced was a world I had never experienced before. It was a mean, unkind, down right nasty at times world. I had never been exposed to the way people treat those they deem to be "less than" what they think a person should be. My face was grossly swollen up due to a condition called Cushing's and had what they call the Moon Effect. I was no longer "pretty" as my cheek bones were't chiseled and my features did't pop anymore. When I did venture out people pointed, stared, laughed and just made me want to crawl under the rug and hide. I was dying and yet all people saw was my swollen state and big size. I am doing better now and down to 56kgs and feeling great. I just moved here 1 week ago and most people that know me are in awe that last year I was in the hospital and in BAD shape and now I am here and doing great. Lucky for me I did not accept the nasty way people were treating me when I was sick as my reality. If I had, I probably wouldn't be where I am right now. What I did was make myself much more aware of what is really going on in the world around me. We need to become a better society where we don't tear ourselves or anyone else down but we instead boost ourselves and others up. I have had many abdominal surgeries due to health issues and I belong to a movement called "Get your belly out" which promotes people showing off and being proud of their bellies no matter what GI issues they may have. No longer should we hide and be afraid to go out because some one might say or do something. This is LIFE and we need each other to get through it. We can make it a much better life if we are a more accepting, loving society that realizes there is so much more to a person than what meets the eye. Big or small the bottom line is it was always just me!

I have been here for one week now and know that I need to meet people! I am definitely going to this event. I am living in the marina area along the marina promenade with my husband and dog. I have taken a leave of absence from work to be here with my husband so I need to figure out how to fill my days. If anyone out there lives in this area and wants to meet for coffee let me know. I am really enjoying this site! Thank you!!! :o)
