and if you have an unlocked phone you can plug in a unlimited minutes pre paid sim card from at&t for example. I think ours was $60 and expired after 60 days or something... they have lots of options if your phone is unlocked. $60 for 60 days is awesome! We got a T-mobile sim card while we were in Colorado to use with an unlocked phone. We started with pay as you go and then switched to a package they have that is unlimited calls and texting withing the US for $50 for 1 month... and I think it was $70 for the same option plus a data package.

From now on if you really need to just stop for less than a minute, make sure to get permission from the ones directing traffic first. Sure there are times you will get a grumpy officer who will tell you to keep moving, but you will also find officers who will appreciate at lest being asked first and then directing you where to quickly stop. And in case you don't find an English speaker, it would be wise to learn just enough Arabic to get by... The fact is, you are not the only ones who think you just needed to stop quickly so decided to go ahead and do so. And out of the many people who go ahead and decide to stop, they end up taking longer than they thought. And out of those, some blatantly disregard everything and take their sweet time getting out of their cars to say their goodbyes and such. I am sure people working there and seeing all of this go on especially during the busy times gets really frustrating. Too bad he was being rude to you... I mean, maybe he is just an all out rude person, or maybe he was just having a bad day. Who knows. After you have gotten over your anger, just take it as lesson learned and make sure and at least ask before you are in a situation like that again. As for the complaint I have read that some people can get away with traffic violations--that can happen anywhere. I have known people in the US who get pulled over and have obviously been drinking who got away without being ticketed... which made me angry because that is a HUGE safety issue, while I couldn't so much as get out of a way smaller violation (though a violation nonetheless) And as for airport violators, I used to work as a ticket counter agent for an airline and the police definitely need to be out there because people do try to park where they aren't supposed to. We were once approached by one passenger who demanded that we go outside and stop the police from towing her car that was illegally parked in the drop-off lane because she couldn't help that she was late. awww poor lil' puppy... its so sad that they allow the import of dogs like this when there are already so many that need good homes... I just hope he is a perfect fit for someone here :) though as been said already, your friend should give the puppy away to a deserving family, not sell him.... I am happy to see she is trying to find a home..... so sad to think the puppy may have to go back to that horrible shop if no one is willing to take him in :( edited by Abaddon on 08/02/2011

maybe see if any stores offer extended warranties... of course you have to pay but I would think if you have gone through 3 washing machines already, it might be worth the cost. I know stores offer extended warranties for a fee for tvs and stuff just don't know about washing machines.

your thinking is kind of along the lines of when some people who are having problems with their partner before marriage and think, "if I marry her/him, things will get better" then things don't change and then its "if we just have a baby things will get better" etc... it won't get better just because... she just feels she is entitled to become a godparent to someones' child/children without that real humble appreciation when asked to be one. I would also choose someone else instead... your SIL isn't going to take it well, but you are most likely going to end up regretting it later after she does something that really angers you... just get it over with now.

dh and I just got some from the US while we were there and they worked really good! I dont know if they are sold here but if you do any online shopping from overseas they are called: Crest 3D White Whitestrips with Advanced Seal No Slip Technology- Professional Effects these strips stick well to the teeth during treatment unlike the older ones that are thin and slide easily. edited by Abaddon on 07/02/2011

By the way, I noticed the other day that there were street signs near JBR saying [b'>'Marsa Walk'[/b'>..... is that the official name of the JBR Walk? I also noticed that people call that area Marsa? Is that supposed to be'marina' in Arabic? Just curious.Mrs. Pacioli Before there was JBR it was Al-Marsa and yes that is what it means :)

I remember before moving to UAE that I read several times online from customer service agents from different businesses--phone companies, cable companies, internest service companies etc... They would mention stuff like Middle Eastern customers calling in and being really nasty about a problem they were having and yelling and stuff... I now know what was going on... because here you have to get nasty kind of a lot of times just to get less-than decent customer service from a lot of places. I know because I have had to get mean several times myself after trying it by being nice first. So the locals are so used to having to have to get mean to get some kind of customer service around here and they carry that mentality when they go to the US (and other countries)... edited by Abaddon on 30/01/2011

uI fractured mine around 4 years ago and the Drs can't do anything... it took mine maybe a month to 6 weeks for the initial pain to feel 10% better & probably like 6 months till it stopped hurting when sitting. to this day I still can't put pressure on the tailbone. on one leg of a flight to Japan my seat was putting pressure on my tailbone no matter what angle I sat & I was in pain for that 4 hour flight. then last September I flew to the US & my seat also was doing the same- and that was a 14 hour flight! I was in pain for a good 2 weeks after! incidentally, both of those were older aircraft as I usually haven't really felt pain like that on flights in newer aircrafts. tailbone injuries can often be with you for the rest of your life :( my friend fractured hers when she was around 10 years old and got pregnant in her 30s and the pregnancy put pressure on her tailbone and was in pain- I am now afraid to get pregnant because of this (though I won't stop trying- just scared of the pain) one thing you may want to try to find is a cushion with a piece cut out in the middle of the back edge to relieve some pressure when sitting- it might not do much for your initial pain but it helped me a bit during the healing time. of course because its a medical cushion it wont be cheap... I got mine from the US so I dont know how much they would be here... you should see a Dr though to make sure... hopefully its something else! edited by Abaddon on 30/01/2011

I give her baths every few months - especially special occasions so her fur is extra silky & smells yummy - today she got shampoo'd with apple scented shampoo :) speaking of rolling in fish- its not fish but one night she snuck out & came home at like 4am.... smelling completely like...metallic. I had to bathe her & my husband heard her howls so he came to see if I needed help and he said the whole bathroom smelled like metallic lol Izzy99 - oh wow your cat went ape! I get stuff sent from my family quite often... I have only had to pay customs a couple of times. It just all depends--most likely who is working that day. One thing is, while before if a package was marked as a gift they used to not charge customs, they now charge--at their discretion of course.

ooooh I'll have to give that dressing a try one of these days :) tonight I made low-carb lasagna with my homemade chicken bolognese sauce... using baked eggplant slices instead of lasagna noodles :) yumm yumm :) oh that sounds delicious, something I would eat. mind sharing your recipe? I always make the bolognese just throw this here that there... LOL but here is the basic breakdown... sautee onions with extra virgin olive oil add ground chicken and sautee-when almost cooked add crushed garlic and continue cooking till chicken is done. add a little more olive oil and then add tomato paste and sautee for a minute or two... (gets some of the tomato sweetness to come out) --I use those lil' boxes of tomato paste.. probably 1.5-2 boxes for 3-4 cans of tomatoes. add 3-4 cans of tomatoes, depending on how much you want (sauce freezes really well!) add a handfull of sliced olives (whatever olives you like best, green or black)--optional sautee sliced mushrooms and add to the sauce-optional then add around 1.5 TBS each of dried basil and oregano...tsp of rosemary, then add a whole bay leaf salt and pepper about a good TBS of honey--or sugar (takes the tin flavor out of the tomatoes) I then use one of the tomato cans and fill it with water and pour it in... bring to boil and simmer for at least an hour, stirring every now and then... adding water if necessary... I put all of it in a slow cooker and let it cook on low for 12 hours. after about 30 minutes of cooking taste and see if you need to add more seasoning and add accordingly. at the very end I turn the heat up on high to evaporate water till I am happy with the consistency of the sauce. ******************* for the eggplant lasagne... wash, peel and slice eggplant about 1 inch thick. Lay out on cookie sheet lined with foil and sprayed with non-stick spray. spray each slice lightly with spray oil and bake at 200C until soft. remove from oven and let cool down slightly. for a quick lasagna just spread some sauce on bottom of baking pan then add a layer of the eggplant slices, overlapping slices, cover wth bolognese sauce and then sprinkle some mozzarella cheese, make another layer of eggplant, overlapping slices again, and add bolognese sauce. add mozzarella and grated parmesian cheese on top and bake at 200 for about 40 minutes. cover lightly with foil (so cheese doesn't stick I shape into like a mound so it is not touching the cheese) and remove foil 5-8 minutes before done. You can stir squeezed thawed chopped spinach with low-fat ricotta and add that between the layers as well--its really yummy but I didn't do that this time I made it.

maybe question your husband.. "why do you always think about what she wants/needs but not me? I am not asking for a lot... a few days here and there without her, and at least a vacation every once in a while without her is not unreasonable for me to ask of you. I am not being a bad DIL for wanting time away from her and you cannot expect me to want to be around her 365 days of the year." maybe you can write it all out in a letter... and not just focus on the negative, but reassure your husband you are ok with your MIL living with y'all but that there has to be a balance where it isn't all about her feelings all the time. edited by Abaddon on 18/01/2011

Since tea tree oil is good on acne (it is also good for dandruff) I would recommend you try a shampoo/conditioner that has tea tree oil in it. There is a shampoo/conditioner by Thursday Plantation that I have seen sold here in pharmacies (I can't remember which pharmacies though, sorry). For some reason I got dandruff while living in Australia and I used their tea tree oil dandruff shampoo/conditioner and it cleared all of that up and completely conditioned my scalp. It has a strong medicinal smell though.. but it worked wonderful for me so I could get past the smell. Maybe The Body Shop may have hair care products with tea tree oil as well. edited by Abaddon on 18/01/2011

wow, I was thinking last night I would like to go to Colorado this summer and then saw this thread. We have older kids... would like to do lots of single track mountain biking, and maybe some white water rafting- any suggestions? I wish I had been adventurous and went biking in the mountains and stuff when I was living in Colorado!! In UAE I realize I had taken granted all of the nature in Colorado and now whenever I go back to visit I am a total tourist exploring places I never went before :) for mountain biking here is a site for you: http://www.trails.com/toptrails.aspx?area=10028 for white water rafting (which I have done only once --pathetic I now!!! But it was sooooooo fun!! And now I keep visiting my family during the winter months so I am waiting till I go during warmer weather!!): http://www.coloradorafting.net/#home and http://www.raftcolorado.net/ awwwww I wanna go with you!! jwal, since you are going to be in Colorado for a month you have plenty of time to see lots of colorado! :D You already got some great suggestions so I will concentrate on Denver :) so for now, here are some things for Denver specifically.... [b'>Denver Museum of Nature & Science[/b'> [b'>Denver Children's Museum[/b'> [b'>Denver Art Museum [/b'>(they have activities for young children) [b'>Denver Zoo[/b'> [b'>Butterfly Pavillion [/b'>(not just butterflies-other insects too) [b'>Denver Aquarium[/b'> [b'>16th Street Mall[/b'> in Downtown, Denver to take a stroll and shop. [b'>Six Flags Elitch Gardens[/b'> (thought I don't know what the young children area is like at all... never paid attention) There is a smaller, older amusement park named [b'>Lakeside[/b'> but its older and smaller and some of us call it the ghetto amusement park LOL but it might be good if you want an amusement park day to be as short as possible.... [b'>Cheesman Park[/b'>-its a beautiful park...and in case you didn't know, if you watch the movie "The Changeling" starring George C. Scott--this is really the neighborhood these events took place (though as with most 'based on a true story movies, things were changed to make it more dramatic). [b'>Cherry Creek Reservoir[/b'>--beautiful area to go driving through, picnicking, taking short strolls with the kids, and some nice sandy areas along the water... ...just a few ideas there for your consideration :) If you do go down to Colorado Springs, you will get a chance to stop and shop at the Outlets at Castle Rock :) or course you could do this on the way back to Denver of course. Here is a website that might help you plan activities and such while you are in Colorado: http://www.coloradokids.com/ http://parks.state.co.us/Pages/HomePage.aspx -on the left side is the drop down list of all the parks you can look up. http://www.colorado.com/Articles.aspx?aid=42134 http://rockymountainnationalpark.com/ edited by Abaddon on 17/01/2011

whatever machine you choose what makes it work is that you use it regularly... So treadmills have their benefits and elliptical machines have their benefits.... but with an elliptical you will be using both upper and lower body at the same time... I prefer jogging so I got a treadmill but because I now get shin splints I should have bought an elliptical instead...

GirlAnachronism OMG I am so sorry... I want to cry for you! your husband is embarrassed of you and doesn't want you to go with him? Do it for yourself (not your husband) and start taking charge of your health so that you don't have to feel so down anymore... I am still well above my weight goal (my next goal is another 50lbs) but I can tell you after losing 53lbs I feel sooooooooo much better about myself. I have more energy and people around me can feel my positivity. Make your best effort and do it the right way... I have yo-yo'd in weight all my life and each time I would gain weight back I gained even more... just make a whole lifestyle change... make your favorite foods healthier, exercise... everyone can advise you what they think the best workout is, but I say the best workout is the one you do and do regularly!! So go start looking for something you will enjoy and start doing it. If you are interested to know how I did it, I first started with a workout program named Chalean Extreme... its a 3 month workout multiple DVD program, and then after that I did P90X--another 3 month INTENSE workout program. They are both intense but heavily weight based workouts (with cardio too..) and that is why it took 6 months to lose this much.. at my weight if I had just done intense cardio I am sure I would have lost more than that... but muscle mass increases metabolism and so I chose the weight program to gain lots of lean muscle mass. But now due to injury I can only do cardio and because of shoulder injuries I am only on the treadmill. otherwise I would be doing stuff like kickboxing... or using even an elliptical machine but sadly I can't :( and then when it comes to treadmill I get friggin' shin splints so I can't jog like I would like to!! Aaaahhhh I want to workout harder but I have to wait till my injuries heal :( but when it comes to exercise over the years I have tried a thousand different things and lots of them were really good, I just didn't do it regularly... eating wise, I healthied up all of my food... I focused on low fat, whole wheat/wholemeal carbs (brown rice and no white), ate lean meats and at a lot less red meat... that was during Chalean Extreme... then for P90X I went with their diet schedule and went lower carb (still allowed to eat a portion a day though) and higher protein. It was more strict but with some pre-planning I was able to easily follow the eating guideline. Now I am just eating lower fat, mixing up days where I eat any carb I want as long as its whole wheat/wholemeal, brown rice instead of white, and other days I eat low carb...only allowing 1 cup of a carb a day. Though when I first got injured I did go into a depression mode and started eating and I gained some weight back.. but I won't let myself go back to that horrendous weight I was again and jumped back in to doing what I need to do. also, when I started lightening up my meals, I never told my dh about it and he didn't even notice... except for the brown rice... LOL but he eventually started eating the brown rice the days there was a yummy sauce to eat it with. So if you need workout/recipe recommendations I am here for you! edited by Abaddon on 12/01/2011 edited by Abaddon on 12/01/2011 edited by Abaddon on 12/01/2011

i just recently lost a little over 50lbs (approx. a little over 3 stones)... it took 6 months & I want to lose another 50lbs... just have some injuries preventing me from working out hard like I would like to... y'all can do it too! I know how it goes though... telling myself "i'll start tomorrow!" for months..ok, years..... wanting to start but you want to lose all the weight in a flash & its so hard to see the weight dropping slowly... you can tell yourself for months & months that you will start tomorrow to find yourself in May you are still telling yourself that or you can start now and come May you will be so much happier about yourself. I say May because that is when kids get out of school (right? I don't have children...) & them comes the possible vacations... I am just kicking myself for letting me get as fat as I did & not starting sooner... but better late than never! ahhhhhh I can't wait to fit into size 16... US size 16 & then down to UK size 16. edited by Abaddon on 12/01/2011

Big Bertha, I just read about what your husband did to you in another thread of yours... I am so sorry to hear what happened to you. Yes, it is about not wanting to lose face. He does not want to look like the weak one. But how much more pathetic of man could he be to not reach out to you on his own and beg for forgiveness.... and that is funny how it is still so soon since he did this to you that his family wants you to make the move to try to take him back. The decision of course is ultimately yours, but if you do decide to take him back... it would be in your best interest to place some very VERRRY difficult conditions on him that he would have to fulfill before. Though I very much believe he wants to weasel his way back to you but after a short time of behaving himself, his old habits will come back out and he will be on the prowl again. Listen to you son... he knows his father won't change and doesn't want to see him betraying you any longer. ************************* ************************* [quote'>shaf replied : I really dont know your story, but what struck me from your post was if it was you did the unfaithfulness bit and went of too egypt or anywhere else and then decided u wanted to come back, would he take you back?? also, would his family accept you back so readily if it was you? edited by Abaddon on 11/01/2011

Hopefully for her she bought her flat early before the prices became ridiculous and doesn't have to lose any money in the sale... is it at least enough to pay off more than half her debt? Hopefully it is... but wow that is a scary situation to be in! at least she is trying to find a way to pay it off...

oh, in case you do want to bbq... do not get those disposable bbq grills with the coal already in it from the stores... I have with my husband and we couldn't finish grilling all our food. just get a cheap bbq grill thingy and your own coal.

how about one evening you go bbq-ing in the desert?you can even just find a hill next to a road and just go up and set up camp there. they have different meats marinating at the co-ops and you can also get some side dishes from them (like hummus, tabbouleh etc..) and bread. oh, bring firewood to make a fire too. it gets chilly out there and these days you won't get much light from the moon.
