Another place is Texas de Brazil... a Brazilian churrascaria (steakhouse)... it is all you can eat too. I have been there twice now and can live on the salad bar alone (it has a few seafood items) which is 65 dirhams during lunch hours which is until 5pm. But the meat selection is good too if you go for the whole thing... it is 115 dirhams during lunch. I forgot the dinner prices but there are a few more items served at dinner time so it is more expensive.

Hi all, Found out Lucky Charms is not Halal and I have one brand new family size box and another plastic bag with a pretty much full box of Lucky Charms (I don't store cereal in the cupboards, I put it in a plastic zip baggy and put it in the refrigerator) I live in Mirdif if that helps you decide.

This specific event was done by the World Trade Centre. The Motor Festival however was organized by Dubai Festivals Establishment--they are the same ones who organize the Dubai Shopping Festival.

Expanding on the recommendation from Apricot- Speaking of extra bags... if you go to REI they have small to extra large duffle bags that fold down to a small size. So you can pack it in your bags in the future in case you end up needing an extra bag. I have them and they come in handy. :) For cosmetics you may also want to check out a store named Ulta. Oh, if you like L'oreal makeup definitely get it in the US as you almost pay double the price here in Dubai. Also for haircare products you might want to try a store named Sally's. Those of us who are bold have been known to sneak in bedroom "toys" in our check-in bags ;) Just gotta pray you don't get randomly picked to have your bags checked after picking them up. If you are into gardening you might want to get specialty vegetable and flower seeds that you won't find over here. I have a stash of veggie/flower seeds I have been buying every time I travel to the US. But definitely check out the shops she recommended -- Ross/Marshalls/TJ Maxx/Big Lots etc... Last time I was there I was planning on getting a cooler back and freezing these ice pack sheets with dry ice (as they get as cold as dry ice) and bringing back American hot dogs (particularly Kosher ones as I think they are some of the best) and turkey ham (I can't find a good one here) but I was traveling alone and my bags were already overweight :(

"My husband on the other hand hates me for sharing anything with family, like asking them to find me house or even share that I am doing well financially (with hard work)" Of course he hates that you do this! All they want to do is take away everything you earn. With your family it could be the "crab bucket mentality"-- where in a bucket of crabs, if one is starting to successfully climb out, the other crabs grab it and pull it back down, never letting it succeed. You are that crab that your family wants to bring you back down. With how you talked about you received no emotional or financial support when you had a nervous breakdown, it very much sounds like you are the "scapegoat" and your siblings are the "golden children" to your parents. In this kind of family dynamic, your success is looked upon with jealousy and you will receive no praise for the good you do. But you will be sure to be criticized for every little wrong you do. Then with the golden-child siblings of yours, they can do no wrong and your parents will always make excuses or ignore their wrong-doings. As you grow older the "golden-child" siblings will also treat you the way your parents do. The only way to escape being the scapegoat is to completely cut off your family. If you cannot do that, just realize you will always be the scapegoat to them whether you give them all your money or not. So just stop giving money. Not even one cent. You are living comfortable now but concentrate on saving up for your new home, for rainy days (in case you or your husband find yourself without jobs), retirement, and for the cost of raising children and their college education. Then and only after you have plenty saved up for all those things should you consider giving money to others (though I think you still shouldn't give them any money) edited by Abaddon on 05/11/2014

I was harassed so badly when I went to the cinema on my own, I had to leave half way through the movie. I don't think I ever will again. Maybe it depends on the cinema you go to. I went to the Arabian Centre. Did you report the harassment to the staff? I have never been harassed when I have gone... though I never went to the Arabian Center one.

I just found this kickstarter campaign and ordered one for myself. It's crazy how much they have raised. . they were looking to raise $22,000 USD and so far have over $540,000!! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/denniscaco/the-undress-change-clothes-in-public-without-getti I think it will be perfect at the gym... The shower dressing area gets steamy so I hate the feeling of not being fully dry and having to get dressed. .. and the dressing rooms are not air conditioned so I always get sweaty. But I also think this is perfect for the beach.

The Samosa or Sambusa wrappers are closer to the texture of what Americans call egg roll wrappers. So if you are ok for them to be triangles and smaller then you can see this youtube video of how to fold samosas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gE9WZzjVGhI I missed egg roll wrappers so much I once made them homemade... using my pasta roller... at the time I made it I said I would never do it again but if I crave them again I know I would do it. edited by Abaddon on 18/10/2014

You have already been given great advice and I don't have anything to add about nutrition, but I do have a suggestion about exercise. You say you can't exercise because of a knee problem...have you ever considered yoga? Yoga does bring your heart rate up and makes you sweat. There is a yoga program named "DDP Yoga" taught by a former WWF Wrestler. There are plenty of yoga workout programs out there but with DDP yoga, there are several different videos, and he has someone doing modifications in the videos for those new, or unable to do the full poses. There is a Youtube video of a man who did DDP yoga, lost a ton of weight and completely cured himself despite doctors having told him he would never walk unassisted again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX9FSZJu448 There is also Pilates, though yoga raises your heartbeat and makes you sweat more, so it is more a toning workout. I have done these two workouts that are available on Amazon for downloading for only $2 each (but I don't know if Amazon lets you download from UAE): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A1ZWADO/ref=dv_dp_ep3 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A1ZUTL4/ref=dv_dp_ep1 This is level 1 and 2 of a 4 part program. I felt awesome and long and lean after doing it for around 2 months and was almost ready to do the level 3 DVD when I broke my tailbone and now I am too scared to try pilates again because a lot of moves use the tailbone :(

Has anyone seen Masa Harina at any stores lately? I was so so stupid not to buy it when I saw it a few months ago at Park n Shop in Jumeirah.... now they don't have any in stock. For Florence, we stayed in Hotel David, and it is either like a 10-minute walk to the main area or there is a bus that is really easy to catch. We had a nice spacious bedroom and bathroom which was nice compared to our tiny room in Rome. The service was great and there was an Italian restaurant like 4 blocks behind our hotel (the staff recommended it). I remember one dish named "Spaghetti Colonica"..it was a simple tomato sauce but soooo delicious. In Rome, try concentrating on finding hotels near the Spanish steps. The main train station is Termini Station but I remember on tripadvisor that people were saying the area there is a shady area... as we walked around the Termini station neighborhood I was glad I listened to those people and chose a hotel near the Spanish steps. We stayed in Hotel Concordia. The location is absolutely awesome but the rooms are tiny. We were just a couple so we managed just fine and I would go there again in a heartbeat but I don't know if I would stay there with a child. But then again they might have bigger rooms as we were just looking for the cheapest room for the two of us. In Venice we stayed in Hotel Antiche Figure. I totally can't remember the hotel much but that just means everything went well. If it was bad experience I would definitely remember it. But I can't give any info on room size or if it is a good hotel for kids etc... I do remember the location was great. I think there are steps and a bridge that is curved with a hill to get to the hotel--and we had big heavy bags but that was the only difficult part we encountered.

You might want to also try these charcoal shoe insert thingies from tchibo, I bought some last year but you should check if they still have them... they look kind of like this: http://dx.com/p/bamboo-charcoal-odor-absorber-for-shoes-2-piece-pack-67042 except they are black and with a little loop handle at one end. anyways, put them in your shoes after you are done wearing them and they are supposed to help dry any moisture left behind and take away any odors. each pair lasts up to 6 months and they weren't expensive. They have worked well for me so far with my workout sneakers, but I haven't tested them in worn-all-day sneakers in the hot summer weather.

If they are the big ones they come up through the pipes. I kept wondering how they were getting in my bathroom and one day I was cleaning the bathtub and sprayed around the overflow holes and a few big cockroaches came crawling out!! the holes don't even look like the big ones would fit through! I ended up covering the overflow holes and I don't get them anymore. My friend who had the same problem didn't want to cover the overflow holes so gets he cans of pif paf with the long straw and sprayes into the holes/drains of her kitchen and bathroom sinks etc... every few days.

maybe try firm or extra firm tofu? You can first try serving slices of it cold, or you can cover it with tea cloths, and place something heavy on top to drain water out for about 30 minutes, then slice and bake with or without a seasoning and serve it room temp or cold. Even just brushing soy sauce on it gives it a good flavor. I don't know if it would work but maybe put yogurt and scrambled eggs (either whole eggs or egg whites so she doesn't get the eggy flavor) in a food processor and blend till smooth? Maybe she will still think it's just yogurt?

I learned a non-chemical way to clean a dirty oven is to use baking soda. I have also seen videos using baking powder with just as good results. For the oven, on the bottom you just sprinkle baking soda/powder and with a water bottle spray it till moist. For the sides and the front make a thick paste and spread it all over. Then close the oven and leave overnight, 12 hours recommended. I did this with my oven and got it nice and clean, I also spread the paste all over the rack and although it still needed scrubbing in places, it was amazing how clean it got. So if it is the grate/grill plate you need to wash just make a thick paste of baking soda/baking powder and water and spread it all over. Close the grill to keep moisture in. Then after leaving overnight, you can wipe away the paste mix (and a lot of the gunk comes off with it) and scrub where it is still dirty. I haven't tried in on my BBQ grill but I think it would work.

a treasure hunt? I don't know how well it would work out here... you could send your husband out on a treasure hunt where he picks up directions at each stop. For instance, go to certain stores and purchase something from each store and have the staff keep it on hold to give to your husband once he arrives (also leave a card with the next location's directions). I can't even think of any specific ideas for the treasure hunt though! The lady I nannied for a long time ago did this with her husband... but I completely forgot where the final destination was. But I think he had to go to a store where he picked up wine glasses, then a liquor store where he picked up a bottle of wine etc...

Go to the "Dealing With the In-laws and FOO (Family of Origin)" group at babycenter.com you will get to read a ton of stories! What I have learned from there is that in most cases, a MIL is a problem because the wife's husband won't admonish his mother (including giving consequences) for her antics toward his wife. One shocking story I read was an exclusively breast-feeding mother was bugged by her MIL about switching the baby to formula so she could feed her. The woman refused as she wanted her baby to only have breast milk. One visit to her MIL's house, the MIL locked herself in her bedroom and was formula feeding the baby (meaning she had to have went and bought formula and pre-planned this) because "I am the grandmother and deserve to feed my grandchild". The couple actually had to take the hinges/screws off of the door to get in and get their baby back. But there are more horrifying stories over there! edited by Abaddon on 10/12/2012

I am wondering if you should over water here and there to flush the fertilizer through. You are usually not supposed to fertilize a plant when you first re-plant it and wait until it has gotten over the shock of being transplanted. You might want to ask over on the GardenWeb forum: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/tropicalfruits/

the Kitchenaid vs Kenwood thing just depends on what you need/want the stand mixers for. If you just need a machine for beating batter, cookie dough, whipping stuff, then the Kitchen Aid will do just fine. If you want a machine to tackle heavier things like bread doughs, the Kenwood is the one.

If I had to pick just one I would say Japan (particularly Tokyo). I just love it there. It is crazy how much yummy food you will see while there and then the people are so tiny! My friends, family, and I always wonder how they don't get fat... but I guess they don't eat everything they see in one day like we do LOL . I have been fortunate enough not to gain weight despite the amount of food I eat because we walk so much since we don't rent a car when we visit there. One funny experience I had in Tokyo was buying a bra. The sales woman just walked right in my dressing room and put her hands in my bra and adjusted my breasts... I was so shocked by first her just entering but I just thought that it must be normal there. Then as she was telling me to see if everything is right and put her hands toward me I thought she was just going to maybe pull and tug at the bra. I was in shock but I guess that is normal. I wonder if they would do it to a non-Japanese speaking foreigner though.. I speak Japanese so she might have expected it to be ok with me. Seoul has been one place I want to visit but seeing what has been said here now I am not so sure... I might scratch that off my list... edited by Abaddon on 08/07/2012
