Bambii or Zuzu I believe you are both Canadian?? (Sorry if I am mistaken) but I am wondering about the police clearance letter and if it needs to come from the RCMP or can it be from a local police force?...I am so confused by this. I know the original has to be attested, but wondering if one from either police force is fine as long as it is an original. What did you both submit and was it ok for getting through the process and getting the visa approved? Thanks in advance. edited by abby86 on 03/10/2014

Looks like it will be January for me then as well, since I have yet to send anything to Ottawa.... Does the criminal records check have to come from the RCMP or can I use an original from my provincial police force ? edited by abby86 on 30/09/2014 edited by abby86 on 30/09/2014 edited by abby86 on 30/09/2014

Hi Abby, I have signed my agreement and onto the obtains visa, prometric test stage. Have you taken the prometric test. Little bit anxious about that as I've heard it is very medical/surgical nursing based not obstetric at all. Hi sparks... I don't think I require that as I am not a nurse.

Hello ladies, I just want to say hello to everyone. I am a midwife from Ireland and I will being going to Doha looks like possibly in January to start working with Sidra. It has taken a long time to get this far with my application but now things seem to be really moving ahead. I will be moving over there on my own so I'm really hoping some of you will be there before me and I might get to meet people. Starting to feel a bit nervous about it all but looking forward to it. edited by Sparks33 on 30/09/2014 Hi Sparks! Congrats! Congrats klaraleva! November will be beautiful weather. What advice do you need? Ladies please note that Eid (in celebration of yearly pilgrimage) is next week so everything will stop/slow down again for a couple of weeks. Hi Bambii, I am waiting for my revised provisional contract to come through before EID, wishful thinking really. But is the EID holiday starting on Oct 5 for a week, or does it run longer? Enshallah it comes through next week before the holidays!

Hello Ladies, Finally my visa was approved (after ~2 months) and I have the date of move! I will be in Doha on November 10th. I wish all of you that are still waiting quick processing of papers. Any advice from those of you already in Doha would be very helpful! Exciting news indeed!!! Hopefully the same for me soon ;)

That's great....thanks! They don't need diplomas/degrees/transcripts attested? I believe the time line is 6-8 weeks. edited by abby86 on 19/09/2014 I have already submitted to Sidra, my degrees/diplomas, and the references. So i may need to just get the police clearance letter attested and send the marriage certificate...nice! I was really hoping to be there before Christmas....it may just happen ;) edited by abby86 on 19/09/2014

I also received my offer this week. It does state relocation costs of the same, but does NOT state mobilization and repatriation flights. I assumed that was a given, but maybe I need to have it in writing as in this contract. What position is your husband? edited by abby86 on 19/09/2014

Thanks for the info. I requested mine from my local police dept (not RCMP), it was ready in 3 days. I am just waiting for the final terms of my provisional contract and will start all that paperwork. I understand that the original needs to be sent, not a notorized copy. DFA first for attestation and then to the embassy, but I read somewhere that there is a Candian Embassy now in Doha that can look after this. I'll see if I can find that info. Are the notorized/attested documents required to be sent to qatar or brought on arrival? So DFA will forward to Qatar embassy for free? And do you include the prepaid post envelope AND money order for Qatar embassy in the package to DFA? And Qatar Embassy will send it all back? What we wouldn't do for perpetual sunshine :) edited by abby86 on 19/09/2014

Hi Cinder, Yes the process seems to be very slow and when I interviewed back in June I was told I would have an answer in a week, but it wasn't until 7 weeks later that I heard that I was successful. At that time, they requested my documents "urgently" in order to prepare an offer, but that was over a month ago, so I continue to *patiently* wait. I too was hoping to be gearing up for a move in Oct or Nov, but at this rate, I can't see that happening. I am very excited as well, but find the process very up and down all the time. When I heard I was successful, I was over the moon, but now the process seems stalled again and sometimes I feel it will never happen. Just hang in there and carry on as normal. Provisional offer received this week!! Reviewing the terms and planning to accept. Things are moving FINALLY! It won't be long before the snow flies and I don't want to be here to see it!!

Bambii, You've are a wealth of info, thanks so much for sharing!! They will need the original copy that has been notarised (once by notary public then by foreign affairs) then attested. Do not deface your original degrees, this is not necessary. Hence the need for the notary to sign and stamp the copy is a true copy of the original. The foreign affairs then signs and stamps that the notary public is known figure. Then the embassy attests that the foreign affairs stamp is true. Whether you bring original degrees is up to you, or if you want to leave home for safe keeping. If you leave I suggest you make several copies to be notarised. Also ask HR if they want the originals. We brought ours but did not need to submit originals, just copies. As the whole notary & attestation process takes time, you just email what you have to get the process going then email the attested later and bring with you. After you sign the provisional offer, HR will send you all requirements.

Hi again Bambii Some of my diplomas/degrees have been professionally framed, what do u advise about bringing originals? Frames and all? And do you mean once it is all notorized and attested, it all gets e-mailed? Because most of these things I have already e-mailed to them. As I said, I am still waiting for an offer, so I am sure it will all be clear as to what I need then. Thanks for the tips, as I can certainly start gathering everything together. Thanks again! edited by abby86 on 31/08/2014

Hi Bambii This absolutely wonderful information, thank you for posting!! What position were you offered? I heard that the requirements can vary depending on position, grade and country of origin. Also just want to clarify a few things you said. For the police clearance, is it submitted directly from the police agency or does it also require notarizing and attestation (you mentioned having to do it both ways). And when you referred to birth certificates, is that just for children, or for everyone? And is all of this submitted to Sidra or brought with you? Thanks again! edited by abby86 on 30/08/2014 edited by abby86 on 30/08/2014 edited by abby86 on 30/08/2014

I finally received an update from HR that my offer awaits the final signature. Great news after a long wait!! A friend of mine who works for CNAQ there suggested that I get a jump on some of my paperwork/notaries for licensing so it isn't all last minute. I don't know, however, what exactly they would require (degrees/diplomas I assume, but what else?). I think there are a few allied health people here...just wondering if you know what's required for licensure to work as a health care provider in Qatar? Al Rayyan sounds lovely and I hope that's where I get placed. Like Klaravela, I was pondering the idea of renting out, but think hospital assigned housing will be the way to go at first. Hoping to be on the ground before the snow flies here in Canada....Inshallah!! edited by abby86 on 27/08/2014

Hi Bambii Thanks for posting such great info!! I am wondering the name of the place you're staying in West Bay? It was also good to know that you can move into hospital accommodations and then look around once there and decide to move out or not. Also, did they tell you with how much housing allowance they would provide, should your choose to rent on your own?? Thanks

Thanks Darang....It was what I was hoping to hear re the references checks. That does make sense. Typically as I said, here, references tend to get checked prior to any offer. edited by abby86 on 23/08/2014

Thanks for your reply!! I am requesting a leave of absence from my current position instead of a resignation and in order to grant that, there will need to be a replacement accept my job and be in position before I can leave :( So you see my dilemma?? That process in itself will take a while..posting my job, recruiting, filling it, having the new person start and so on... So I won't be able to leave here until a replacement is found unfortunately so I feel we need to get that process started soon...I just wish I had more of a confirmation at this point. At what point do references get checked?? Abby86 I was advised by the agency I'm working with not to hand in resignation until I had my visa sorted and a start date given. I'm only obliged to give 1 months notice, surely ur under no obligation to work until a replacement is found? edited by abby86 on 23/08/2014

Hi ladies I know this whole process can take quite a while, and I am trying to be patient, but I am trying to figure out the timeline as best I can. I am hoping that some of you can share your experience in that regard, as I will need to apply for a leave from work and would not be released until a replacement is found. This as well may take some time in itself. As of right now, I have been interviewed and told I was the successful applicant. However, they have not checked any references or sent a contract offer. Typically in Canada, one is not told until references are checked that a person is successful, so I am a little confused as to where I stand. Can I assume I have the job?? Should I wait to start the leave process for my current job? It's a bit of a catch 22 as if I wait till I get a Visa, to be sure, then the recruitment for my own job may take several more weeks or even months, if I start that process now, my job may be filled, but I do not have any idea when I'd be relocating to Qatar and I could be here without a job. Hoping some of you can share some experience. Thanks Ladies :)

My interview was at the end of June and found out last week that I was accepted and am still waiting for an offer. Glad to hear I am not alone in this long process :) I am from Canada, and will be maintaining ties here so will have to pay tax. Hi Klaraleva I am sorry if you have posted this and I have missed it, but can I ask the housing allowance you were offered? I am still awaiting my offer, but am searching for potential places to live. Thanks in advance. Abby Rubyblue and Parkclark, Thank you for your insight advices. How far is Al Rayyan Oasis from Sidra? How far is it from West Bay? Cornice? I agree with Rubyblue that living, working, and commuting with the same people could be bit much, however, I think it is the best to live in the prearranged housing for a month-two and then see what are better options. How much does two bedroom apartment cost in West Bay or Pearl? Or what neighborhood would you recommend for a couple without kids? Parkclark, What role does your husband have in Sidra? You mentioned working long hours? I spoke with two of my colleagues that are already there, and they said there is no overtime and that they really like it there. One has been there for two years and another for 11 months. Also, after what time was your husband able to take time off? I should definitely ask about this. Abby86, Congratulation on your successful interview. There is a lot of paperwork that you need to submit so do not be freaked out by this. I am still submitting my paperwork (last two pieces: a letter of a good standing from my credentialing agency and getting my BLS certificate renewed before my visa is finalized). I got my offer before reference check, however, yes the recruiter check my references and also a third party agency is checking my references/criminal background now again. There is really a lot of paperwork, however, I think this is how it should be. There should be all this paperwork as they want to make sure that people that they are bringing are qualified. When I was moving in the USA from Europe ten years ago, I went through overwhelming amount of paperwork as well so for me this is not surprise. It would not be good if they were not doing all these checks and requesting all this paperwork to be quite honest. In terms of work before the hospital opens, I was also told that I will be working on policy development and recruiting people. As I mentioned above, I was connected with two of my colleagues that are already in Sidra and they said the same. They both also mentioned that there is a lot of work as they need to get the hospital ready for the patients and they said it is very interesting and unique opportunity to see all the work that needs to be done before the hospital can open. edited by abby86 on 17/08/2014

Really something to think about Ruby. Being a year or more out of clinical practice could really have an impact on things like licenses and such. I asked in my interview what work I'd be doing prior to the opening and they said that it would be quite busy with policy development, hiring new staff and basically getting the dept set up and running, but I wonder how busy that would really be, especially if the opening is more than a year away. ;( Klaraleva...what were you told in this regard since you'll be there soon? Also following this with much interest. I think you should also be careful if you need to practice medically as it is very well known in Doha that the hospital will definately NOT open next march as planned and will be considerably delayed by up to a minimum year and possibly longer ! Many people have already come and left already as they need to keep the clinical practice active.. Al Rayyan Oasis is nice enough but quite a long way out of Doha and also do you really want to travel in on a bus ,work and live with your work colleagues- maybe a bit intense for some people ! Rent prices as stated are very high here and the allowance is likely not high enough to get you a place in a area you want so that can eat into your base salary if you need to supplement it. edited by abby86 on 11/08/2014

Hi Klareleva, I noticed your job offer was for a supervisor position in allied health, I'd be in the same boat, just in a different profession. Still no offer, but still trying to predict what they might offer. Did you get a housing allowance or prearranged housing? And are you a single or married? I plan to relocate by myself with my husband maybe coming in the 2nd year. Just trying to get a feel for a potential offer. You also said they offered more than what you currently make, pre tax? Was that including all benefits or just your base salary? Kind regards. Fauna, I received my provisional offer end of April and after I send negotiation letter, Sidra responded within a day. I submitted all of my documentation necessary for visa application by mid June, so right before Ramadan and that is why visa processing is taking time. My recruiter told me during Ramadan majority of Sidra's employees were off therefore everything was moving really slow. I am not in any rush anyway. Good luck with your negotiation! Bambii, I agree with you that Sidra will at least meet your current pretax salary and I do not think that they do not want Americans. They just look for qualified people mostly from western countries.

Am hanging on Bambii...just would like to know if I was even successful. I did send an email this past week to see if the position had been filled. They did reply to say that the process was still ongoing and that they were hoping to have more information soon.... but it was very vague. After 6 weeks, I figured if I was out, I'd have known by now, so no news is good news I guess. I'd be glad to share my negotiation experience....should I get to that point ;) Government offices just started work yesterday (Tuesday 5th) including Sidra after a 11 day holiday for Eid. Hang in there Abby86 :) Am at my last stage and waiting visa which has been over 5 weeks now and hoping it will come through this week. Its down to the wire, school is starting soon! In terms of time frame, it was quite a few weeks between interview and offer. I dont think its a one man decision but that they have group meetings etc..it all takes time! I think its good to make contact, kind of reminding them you are still there ;) ie hope you had a great holiday and just checking on progress.... Can anyone share some negotiation tips ? edited by abby86 on 06/08/2014 edited by abby86 on 06/08/2014

I interviewed for a position at the end of June and was not expecting to hear anything through Ramadan or Eid, but it's now been 6 weeks and still no news. Getting anxious to see where I stand and what a provisional offer may be. I gave my pre-tax salary for my current position, however I have applied for a position supervisor with more responsibility that I have now, so I am hoping the offer would reflect that. I am worried, however, after reading some posts that salary may be lower than I am anticipating, and that it may be several more weeks before I hear. I am also gathering that negotiations are becoming more the norm after the initial offer? Hoping to hear some news soon. Anyone have similar experiences of such a long wait between interview and an offer? Fauna, I received my provisional offer end of April and after I send negotiation letter, Sidra responded within a day.
