I would say it is probably easier to talk directly to the Queen/Sheikh Mohammed! Probably the most awful bank in Dubai. My husband has aged overnight dealing with them. Not sure how they stay in business.

I think this is better than the Noodle House. I can highly recommend the Green Curry!https://www.zomato.com/dubai/fuchsia-tecom

About 7 years ago I was packing my car with all the Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve in MOE. From nowhere a guy appeared at my side showing me the most horrendous wound on his arm with the story that his employer had sacked him and he had no money to seek a doctor. To be absolutely honest it completely freaked me and I drove away. When I got home I cried for the guy and for myself for not helping him. Guilt sent me back to MOE car park and I drove around trying to find and help him (it was xmas eve!). When I found out this was a con that most people knew about, I felt very angry. I now am really dubious about helping people in Dubai.

We lived in Meadows 9 for many years. It is beautifully kept, very green and lush. It was also very quite and had a nice community play park. It doesn't have a community pool so better to get a villa with private pool. The green community is also very nice, the location is not so convenient though.

Not sure what the point of this thread is! Makes me feel quite sad and angry because we all know the reason why this is happening and it is not the low oil price!

Thanks Victoria. Called Lucy and going to the open day on 9th Jan. They sound perfect for me as want a bigger community type family compound with no maintenance issues! Sorry there is just no properties in Dubai that have no maintenance issues. The newer the property the greater the chance!

Can anyone tell me where I can buy a pair of reading glasses, the kind you just try on and check your self if you can see! I don't want any designer stuff as I loose them so often. I managed to find a pair in boots however they are awful. In the uk every shop sells them, can't find any here.

I have a feeling there is just not the people or money out there that can afford these ridiculous rents. We have a property in the meadows that we need to rent out as our previous tenant lost his job and had to leave. We are happy to negotiate the rent but there is just no interest, we have only had one viewing. In previous years the property was rented easily, even in the downturn. I think the prices will come down. Hi Airfix, we are looking to move out of our current property and looking for a new place. Would you be interested in showing your place to us? Thanks Hi Nasia If you leave your email I will contact you directly. We are in the uk at the moment, we have better homes renting it out. If you want to deal directly let me know

Would it be easier(a bit longer) to drive down through the main Meadows drive and go through the Lakes, turning up to the right on exit. Just whilst the road works are taking place at the Springs..Meadows 9 is so lovely!

Madge_gustard you must have a lovely cool home to be paying 5000 dhs per month to dewa! We have been in a 5 bedroom meadows home for 7 years and the Dewa bill averages out around 1500 per month, much less in the winter and a bit more in the summer. We have a pool but not with chiller. 4 kids so all rooms used!

Check your devices have all recent upgrades. Ours stopped working and it was due to my dh not upgrading his ipad. FaceTime only works on equipment bought outside of the UAE. I think?

Many thanks. I have been in muscat all week and looked at many properties. Some have been really awful (Omani landlords really have to get there act together!) some of the accomodation should be condemned! The wave and muscat hills do seem to have nicer quality accomodation, however the drive for us is just too far. Will keep looking!

Hope someone here can help as the oman page is not so active. My husband has moved to Muscat from Dubai. He has just spent his first weekend there and really wonders what families do at the weekend? Are there any beach clubs or family clubs where expats meet? Any info would be great. Thanks

Hi We are also moving to Muscat. Although I have been visiting for holidays for years, I can understand how you feel, all I can say that may help is it is a really small place and I am hoping it should be very easy to get around and it seems to have quite a small expat community so should be easy to get to know people?! The local Omani community are lovely. Really friendly people.

That is really kind, thank you. There does seem to be a bit of a race to get small villas at the moment. Each one that is advertised on the Internet seems to have gone by the time my husband calls. If you can recommend any estate agents that would be great.

Looking at the wave as a place to live. I am currently in the uk and my husband is currently in Muscat looking at accomodation. How long would it take in the mornings to do the school run to the british school from the wave? Any help would be great. Thanks

Hi My husband is currently in Muscat looking for accomodation. The estate agent he is using has recommended these apartments http://www.sav-oman.com/index.php?op=mi&id=1172&pl=Al%20Khuwair. Hope that helps. I do feel a bit nervous leaving him to find somewhere for us to live as I have only ever visited Muscat as a visitor. Have no idea the best place to live would be with a 11 year old. Any advice would be great.

We have a lovely little cottage in cornwall in a really beautiful village which we rent out. http://www.cornwallscottages.co.uk/cottages/cobblestones-st-mawes-51747.htm#8 I can really recommend it for a lovely family holiday, especially in August when it is Carnival time!

Thank you all. I have a house in The Meadows. Unfortunately (not the best time to sell as prices are going up by the day) we have to sell due to DHs job. I will look at your recommendations. Thank you

We really need the above to help sell our house. We have had such awful experiences with estate agents here that makes you wonder if there are any honest ones out there. Any recommendations would be great. Better homes would not be an option!! Many thanks
