ok, let me sweeten my post, it is dedicated to all the people that spread bad vibes, rumors and pessimism and are effectively Dubai haters. Trust me there are a lot. I understand that people in a difficult situation may have limited choices in terms of opportunities but they may still love the place, to all these people I say stay strong and best of luck. The haters can leave.

nothing to worry about, for one that goes two arrive. Of course people made redundant or leaving will start ranting about the place. It's ok, they should just go, nobody forced them to come here in the first place.

Campaigning from both sides reached a level that is below pooh from a whale sitting on the bottom of the sea. The elite should have driven the vote for the Brexit but not for the actual reasons put forward by the Leave camp. It is obvious that Europe is a failure in the making where freedom is lost a bit more every day, where growth is non-existent and purely relying on 0% interest rates to keep things going, where.... But for how long? People should have rejected Europe not for fear of lack of immigration control or other xenophobic reasons but for its governance and direction. Europe has been moving towards more and more state control, state intervention, loss of freedom. That's what saddens me the most. We are now facing the rise of extremism in Europe. The Brexit vote should have been a wake up call for Europe.

Hi, I'm interested. I have been looking after tortoises for the last 15 years. We have a Graeca Graeca with a garden, shade and protection. Not sure I could rehome 5 but 2 yes. Do you know their species and gender? Are they aggressive? Thanks

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Every situation is specific and buying a house is very much a financial decision coupled with various scenarios one expects to materialize with a certain probability. No point buying a house if you have to mortgage yourself to the hilt. Dubai is indeed not the UK. Do not expect a bail out from the government like we saw during the crisis. Northern Rock, interest rates set almost at zero, mortgage repayment holiday, ...., rewarding reckless behavior. Not here. So make sure that if you buy a house, it makes sense both financially and in terms of life plans. With respect to build quality in Dubai, the rules that can change at any time, blah blah blah blah, these are questions that one needs to assess independently. You cannot imagine how many expats I met that spend their time bad mouthing this place and praise their home country. I feel sad for them as it must be very difficult to be like that all the time. Well I hope at least they make enough money so they can buy their dream house in their home country and leave. It will be better for them and for me.

Timing is the essence. We bought 3 years ago. Prices are up 50% and we saved 3y of renting which is roughly 1M AED. Great. Would we buy today? Difficult to answer. Are we selling? No, because where we live there is limited supply of properties and we made Dubai our home and no way we would go back to Europe/UK given all the problems they face. With respect to comments pointing out the bad quality or robustness of properties in the Emirates Living area, I completely disagree. The villas are rock solid and if properly maintained I cannot see why they shouldn't resist another 20 year. It is all about maintenance and taking care of your property. I also find it very childish that most of the subjects about owning property in Dubai always end up as comparison between Dubai and one's home, which most of the time tends to be the UK. Well, it's another sunny day so off to the beach. ;)

Good day, I am in the process of opening an offshore company in Jebel Ali. Among documents required, they need a proof of residence. They do not accept mobile phone bills and bank statements. Only DEWA or utility bills or rental contract. Everything is under the name of my husband, even the house. Is there a way for me to get a proof of residence? Could the police write me a letter? This is turning into a headache. Any idea what can be done? Thanks

Hi Basta Pasta, We have been looking for companions to my Mediterranean tortoise but it is very difficult in Dubai. She is a Testudo Graeca Graeca 12y old of which 11y were spent with us. I have extensive experience of tortoise care providing proper habitat in our garden and the right food (dandelions that I grow myself using seeds I get from Italy and Hibiscus flowers among others). Let me know how we can get in touch.

Great news, the tortoise has been recovered from somewhere she couldn't get there by herself. Reward paid. Case closed. Thank you for your support.

1. The garden offers absolutely no escape route to the tortoise 2. The door of the garden is always closed, the gardener has the key and I always check that it is the case 3. I fed the tortoise in the morning as usual on friday. 4. On friday evening I couldn't find her but didn't bother looking for her as I thought she was hiding somewhere 5. As she didn't show up the next day I spent all morning yesterday looking for her in the garden but to no avail. The garden has a limited number of hiding places and I double checked everywhere. So, as she couldn't possibly escape and she is nowhere to be found after several days, the obvious conclusion is she has been stolen.

Hi Whitepony, we are leaving our villa 15th of November. Our LL is fantastic and we are helping him find new tenants. I believe he would be happy to rent it out starting 2nd of January so that he can repaint it and fix minor things. The villa is right on the lake in Springs 4. It's a 3 bedrooms with a well kept garden. Let me know if you want to visit.

Hi Fiat, as you are the tortoise specialist, I am looking to buy a male Testudo Graeca Graeca of 12 years plus. Any clue how I could find one? Do I need to contact a pet shop? Thanks S

We have a tortoise that we inherited and it needs a home that is more interested in it than we are......if anyone is still looking. sort of 15 cms by 10cms. Well, tortoise shaped. What else can one say ? presume its male as has a little sort of indented area underneath it. Anyone need another ? Hi Mairam, we have a Mediterranean tortoise also known as TGG (Testudo Graeca Graeca). It's a female. I am interested if your tortoise is also a TGG. If you google Testudo Graeca Graeca and look for pics, maybe you can establish whether you have a TGG?

Thank you Fiat500 for taking the time to reply. I will look for someone to come over and take care of the tortoise during my absence. I will dig a shelter for the tortoise in order for her to have a cooler place as well. For mating I will wait for next year once the tortoise has settled. Thanks again

We used pickfords in july they were great. If you get other quotes with lower insurance premiums than pickfords we asked them to match the premium which they did. Very professional and would use next time without hesitation. Good luck with your move!! Lucky you, we used them and it was a total disaster. The packing was just outrageous. They put garments into boxes without consideration. They underestimated the cost of the removal and we had to pay 40% extra. They damaged several pieces of furniture. They literally fully damaged a console. We are still waiting for some items to be shipped over. A total nightmare, don't go with Pickford.
