Just an update on Saje Joseph - we found him to be very inflexible and inconsistent in our experience. He came with some samples, took measurments and said he would get back to us with a quote after having told us what the material cost were. 2 days later we are gobsmacked to discover that the price of material has now increased by almost 20% (almost overnight) and there is nothing he can do about it. We weren't happy and asked him to 'work with us'. We did not hear back from him for a couple of weeks then we went on a break, subsequently he said he took a short hol (reason he gave for not getting back to me during that period). We resumed discussions again 6 weeks after original conversation. He came to the house repeating he wouldn't budge on price. Ok we think (we really need curtains) we told him we will go with your quote. Here's icing on cake - he tells us the price has gone up again by AED 5pm. I ask for new quote and from this we see he has applied it not just to material but labour and everything else it seems - how else can it be AED 2,500 dearer than previously? Last I checked we didn't live in a palace and this is only for 4 areas including 2 small windows in kitchen and 4 are roman blinds and 3 full length curtains? Can anyone explain the math? My word, I can't believe this is the same Joseph, we had a "Joseph" 050 252 9870, he was a delight! Charming, polite, an absolute love to work with. We had a million samples to choose from that he hauled up to the 8th floor (many trolley trips). And less than a week from first consultation to entire apartment curtains hung! Perhaps a different Joseph???

Pets Plus on SZR past the Safa Park exit in the new Al Safa Building is the best LFS I have been to in Dubai. I second this, it's a great new pet shop with very knowledgeable staff. Good varied stock of interesting fresh water and marine fish, not expensive either.

Sadly, but understandably, Nakeel are now doing as little as they can get away with re general maintenance of all communal areas. Light bulbs on landings not being replaced, broken floor tiles not fixed, that sort of thing. Makes the place look tatty. Grafitti has been appearing on the exterior of some buildings. We even heard a rumour that the Shoreline residents may be asked to pay to use the gym/pool. On the other hand, the apartments are nice, and becoming cheaper by the year.

My two fly regularly as UM's. We always and only (so far) use Emirates. We always book via the Emirates Hub on SZR. Not sure if there is another way, if they are both under 12 I think you have to use the Hub. You then have the advantage of speaking directly to a person who has access to all the info you need. So, go to the Hub and get them to do all the booking etc.

Ted Morgan every time. Professional and friendly. For excellent quality prices are reasonable - plenty of places charge more and are nowhere near as good as the girls at Ted Morgan. You can't go wrong! I agree with most of lollypop said except "prices are reasonable".............they are the most expensive hairdresser I have been to in Dubai, and IMHO, not the best I have been to, for me personally.

Officially called Dubai Marina Towers, but everyone just calls them 'the first six towers'. They're individually called Murjan, Mass, Fairooz, Yass, Mesk, and Anbar. We lived in Yass for a year and were very happy with it. We were in Al Mass for a while............loved it!! Great location, so much within walking distance, lovely pools. Not the cheapest though............you get what you pay for.

Hi BMAP, Although I think QF could have said it in a more gentle way, she has pretty much said it all. Just make sure you are aware of all the risks should things go pear shaped. If all goes well you'll have a fab time, potentially. [b'>If things don't go so well.................people have ended up in jail :-([/b'> Just take care. And this is kinder? LOL I tend to agree with QF's reply.......especially the part about posting non-stop on the subject for months *sigh* yes its good to get others perspective but just going round and round in circles now and sometimes you just have to suck it up and make your own decisions like we all had to do at one time or another.......I hope that someone from the company hasn't been reading these posts and has easily been able to put two and two together.......doesn't look very professional IMO. edited by Pomegranate on 27/07/2011 edited by Pomegranate on 27/07/2011 Well I tried my best Pom :-) Hard to make the truth sound nice......lol

Even if/when the company tells the bank, if you have no large debts, ie, credit card, car loan or mortgage, there really shouldn't be any problem. I think you can rest easy Nic_R.

Thank you all Ladies, I am grateful. Sometimes you just need a little reminder that in the big scheme of things I am certainly better off here than in the UK...................on so many fronts :-) All of you have made valid points, and my figures, just for clarity, came from www,uswitch.com Cheers Ali x

Here in Dubai I pay AED743 or 123GBP per month for OSN with sport/broadband/landline, calls are extra. For the same kind of package in the UK I am paying 19.50GBP for a very similar service. Why, seriously, why is it so expensive here??? Am I missing something??

Good news Kavsmum. Your action alone may just be all it takes to make the few employees who are obviously not doing their job properly, buck-up. Cheers, Ali

Suze.........confirmation not valid and ticket cancelled????...... I hope you went mad!! I would have! Did you book with someone face-to-face? at an Emirates Hub for example. Was the ticket booked at short notice? When Emirates are good and on form they are fab!! BUT, when they are rubbish, they can't handle things. Worrying really.

lol suze63. I have spent some time chatting to my two about their flights. They always fly when it's an end of term or a half term. There is always a fair sized group of children travelling together as UM's. They therefore all sit altogether as a group and my children now know some of these other kids. Even when it's just the two of them, they have each other, and my daughter is quite an outspoken young lady, if she wasn't too happy with something she may well say something to a member of staff. That maybe why we have never had an issue so far.............safety in numbers. Not that that should make a difference. Whether it's one child or 20, Emirates should be totally trustworthy, everytime!

UPDATE Well been on and off the phone all week to Emirates, we are now on the complaints list with a ref no. It can take up to 30 days to sort we were told. Told them we are not happy with that and are now seeing somebody at 7am tomorrow. So fingers crossed all will go well. Will update tomorrow with hopefully a resolved situation. "complaints list"???? "30 days"???? well that is a shock, I didn't realise there were such things!! Looking forward to the next instalment.............well done kavsmum for the info.

Keep at this Kavsmum, and tell them that other parents are waiting to see what their response is to your complaint. I have to say that so far, given ash clouds and closing airports at xmas for snow.......both of which affected my children's flights, Emirates did very well. I really do hope this is a one off!! Ali

Hi Kavsmum, Could you please let us know this turns out. My Children fly as UM's about 8-10 times a year. I have not had a problem so far and had felt this was something I could rely on Emirates to get right. I do hope that this is still the case. Here's hoping you get a positive response from Emirates soon. Ali.k

Send him, seriously, he will love it. But does need to be there to realise that it is the best decision you have ever made for him. Counselling?? for heavens sake he is just being a perfectly normal typical teenage boy. He will make the best friends ever, he will have the best fun ever. Don't you think the school you are sending him to have seen this a hundred times and they are probably experts at handling it. Let the school know, they will deal with everything, you will get a changed child back at xmas. Best of luck!
