This happened to me a few years ago in the US. I tried to remove the tag myself using pliers but it burst and ink came out ruining the garment. I don't know if that system is used here but I would certainly return to the shop if it happened to me again!

Buying and selling a boat is not as straightforward as a car. I recently purchased a boat and before it could be sold the seller has to get a cancellation certificate from either DMCA or NTA (depends on who registered it) and then take the boat to the coastguard to have the transponder removed. The buyer then has to have all the paperwork in place to get the transponder re-fitted. The coastguard will not transfer the transponder but will phyically remove it and then install it again! It's crazy. I gave the seller a NOC to do this for me but the coasguard refused to accept it and said I had to sign the paper. Hopefully it is different if selling but you still have to sign to get your transponder deposit back.

I would also be interested. I bought a similar one in the Philippines section of Global Village (but no handle) and it is getting a bit worn now. They are great for sweeping up leaves in the garden!

I don't live in JLT but I work there (Cluster Y). Since they completed the junction next to the new park in the middle of JLT I have had no issues with traffic. The only thing it is one-way so if you miss your turning it's a long way round to get back to it!

I've used Centaurus a couple of times over the past 8 years when I haven't had time to go to Barracuda. It's convenient but their prices are not as good as Barracuda and the costs are inflated by having to pay the driver 100 AED when he gets there. I've had some bad produce from them including a full case of fizz which was flat. It's a bit difficult to return it once the driver has left. They used to only deliver to villas but they will deliver to apartments depending on how discreet the unloading place is. Never been asked to show my licence.

It's on Kuwait Street next to the Municipality. There are 2 shopping malls on the corner of 8C street. I saw most shops/stalls in the first one. There are some bag shops in there also but it's not the same area where you wander around waiting for someone to say "copy bags, copy watches".

Hi Alison_T Do you use satellite dish to receive OSN? Pollydxb1, Maybe we all call du within the same hour, huh? To report we are missing this one channel. They probably just need to mouse-click a few buttons and let the channel through! I have du cable. Actually I was wrong. Although I now have ITV Choice HD I do not have TLC. I have just checked the list of channels provided by du and TLC is not listed so I don't expect to get it.

du are not very proactive. I recently changed my subscription from Enterprise to Consumer as I changed companies with the same package (OSN Premier Plus HD) and now I have more channels! As an example, before I changed I never had TLC or ITV Choice HD but now I do. Same package, same price, just new installation.

Seems I cannot use emoticons either as there are also gone! That's 'cause you're a newbie. You only get thumbs if you've reached explorer status ... Discovered it is nothing to do with being a Newbie. It's an Internet Explorer V9 incompatibility problem. Just installed Chrome and now have the thumbs.

There are several threads about Al Furjan but here is my views. I am now into my second year living here and I love it. I moved from an apartment also. It is very quiet and peaceful. The villas seem to be very well built apart from a couple of minor issues which were resolved very quickly. The only downside at the moment is the morning and evening traffic through Discovery Gardens, but they have recently adjusted the traffic signals so it is better. The back way is also open which is much quicker. There are no amenities here yet apart from a shop and salon at Masakin Al Furjan but Discovery Pavilion should open soon hopefully. I would not move back to an apartment now.

I have lived in the Al Furjan villas for over a year now and have not encountered any of the problems which ExpatLora describes. It is true that it is not a gated community but there are several security guys roaming around where I live, on foot, bicycles, segway and cars. I have not heard one party nor do I hear any noise from my neighbours. Perhaps I am just lucky. The smell from the irrigation seems to have gone but even when it was there, it never entered my villa. There are speed bumps on the entry and exit into the community. I don't think the new fences can be much to do with security as there will be gaps for the walkways. From my villa I can walk to the shop, salons etc at Masakin but that would be difficult from the other end of Al Furjan. It also looks as if Discovery Pavillion is almost ready. My tenancy agreement is not limited to one year (I just renewed on same terms) and I thought those sort of agreements were unenforceable anyway. I could be wrong. I love living in Al Furjan but, as I said, maybe I am one of the lucky ones. Edited to add that the only thing which could be security related which has happened recently is that Security have stopped the (legitimate) company from cleaning my car. edited by Alison_T on 05/02/2014

There was an email sent out by Nakheel in December: Dear Al Furjan Residence, Kindly note due to the completion of the construction for the infrastructure and roads. Effective Wednesday December 11th 2013, there will be a closure of road 32, so there will be no access to Al Furjan villas from Jebel Ali (D57) Road & and you will be using the main entrance only from road D59 Attached Traffic Logistic Plan for your kind reference. Should you wish to discuss the matter further please do not hesitate to email us on [email protected]. We apologise for any inconvenience. Best Regards,

It might sound a stupid question but have you paid your bill? When I lived in Executive Towers the cooling was provided by Empower who can switch off the actual cooling part whilst leaving everything else running (fans etc.) which results in the symptoms you describe. This is how it is set when you first move in. The building maintenance people would not be able to identify this. If the cooling is fine in the area outside of your front door I would suggest you check that is all is ok with your bill payments. If your AC is not provided by a company such as Empower or Palm District Cooling then you can ignore the above post :-)

The Quortaj and Dubai style are actually identical inside so it depends on what you like the look of from the outside! I can't comment on a cleaning company but do NOT use Ocean View Landscaping for your garden. They want to be paid in advance and then never turn up. It took m 6 weeks to get the garden completed and had to call just about every day.

Obviously the costs depend on your usage. I live alone (2 cats) in a Type A Al Quortaj villa. In the summer I leave my AC on 24 degrees in all areas except the master bedroom which is as cold as I can get it. I occasionally drop the lounge down to 22. In winter its usually only the lounge and master bedroom. I water the garden twice a day (plants/trees only). I have artificial grass. My DEWA bills (including housing charge) for the last 5 months have been: March 1,085 AED April 1,420 AED (I had visitors) May 1,295 AED June 1,738 AED July 2,291 AED Gas costs are minimal. My quarterly bills are around 135 AED of which either 90 or 100 AED is a standing charge, so actual gas usage is around 10 AED per month. HTH

The gas company is Lootah Gas. They will install the meter, temporary pipes and provide the gas bottle and cage. The gas runs through the meter and you will be billed quarterly. I think it was 1,000 AED deposit. The dishwasher problem is a common design fault to all villas. Nakheel corrected mine (free) and it does not look ugly. They removed the two doors from under the sink and the cut the bottom so the side next to the dishwasher could be moved over. They then took the doors away and cut them so both are the same size. The difference in door sizes is unnoticeble. You are left with a small gap on the side of the dishwasher next to the cooker but, again, it is harldy noticeable. If you leave an email address I can send you a picture when I get home later.

I recently used Reem Furnishings (04 3968553; 050 2103044) and had 7 roller blinds (5 are blackout) and two vertical blinds for patio doors made and fitted for 3,050 AED. Great quality and excellent fitting. All done within a week. They have cheaper and more expensive material but I am happy with my choice. I would use them again.

If I'd placed a large order and they got it right and it was on time and no hassle, then they'd a get a tip because of the above-the-norm effort that had had to have been made. Why would getting an order correct and on time be an above-the-norm effort?

Any idea of price to rent a 3 bedroomed villa please? I think it depends on the number of cheques and whether is a Type A or Type B. Type A is an end villa and has an upstairs living area which Type B doesn't. Type B is mid-terrace. Everything else about the villas is identical except the Type B does not have a window in the kitchen. I have seen them advertised from 110,000 to 150,000. I think the independent villas start at around 180,000.

I moved into one of the 3-bed townhouses last week. I love the villa but there are a couple of things you need to be aware of. Fisrtly, there is no electrical connection for a cooker. I had an all-electric range and had to sell it and buy an all-gas one. I had to run an extension lead from a nearby socket for the power for the ignition. The Nakheel electrician told me that it is not possible to use an electric cooker as there is no 30 amp supply. There is also a design flaw in the kitchen. The dishwasher is located in the corner next to the cooker which is at 90 degrees. Once both appliances are in place it is impossible to open the dishwasher as it hits either the cooker oven door handle or the control knobs! I spoke to Nakheel and they said the owner has to contact the handover team to try and get it rectified by either cutting the cupboard door next to it or relocating the dishwasher to another cupboard space. My landlord contacted them today. The traffic out of Discovery Gardens isn't as bad as I thought. This morning it took me 20 minutes at 07:30. Apart from the above I have no regrets about moving there at all. I did not know there is a market in Masakin. I will be checking that out. I also heard a rumour that it is possible to use the pool etc at Masakin for a fee. Anyone know about this?

I live in Executive Towers and have just heard that they are closing Business Bay and Dubai Mall metro stations. Not sure how accurate it i though. If you can drive down you could go behind Executive Towers onto Bay Avenue. Unrestricted view of the Burj Khalifa and last year it was very quiet. At the moment hardly any traffic but I cannot see SZR.
