Angelinaballerina 'and not having insurance and expecting the government, the hospital and the general public to pay you bills is also damn right rude Seriously!?! READ my post!! You know nothing about me. I certainly do not expect ANYONE to cover any of my expenses. Especially YOU! Nor did this unfortunate family, who could do with some compassion BTW, you are basing your opinions on. My decisions are informed and based on what's right for me and my family. Signing out now as I only came on in answer to the OP, not to be attacked. :\: edited by Amalfi on 05/04/2012

True JackieD, most new policies have a waiting period which won't cover maternity care until after the event. Yes, in an ideal world everyone would have/afford health insurance to cover every eventuality, only get pregnant when said waiting period is over etc etc - but this is not the reality. And yes we should all be aware of how badly things can go wrong BUT I think informing a person and ramming one's opinion down anothers throat in a rude manner are two very different things. I just hope this hasn't put the previous posters off asking for any other advice should they need it. edited by Amalfi on 05/04/2012

Stop being cheap - get insurance for the sake of you, your unborn child and your husband staying out of jail. http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/health/father-struggles-to-take-babies-home-as-medical-bills-cross-dh1m-1.1002766 edited by angelinaballerina on 05/04/2012 edited by angelinaballerina on 05/04/2012 Angelinaballerina, you don't know me, my circumstances nor those of the other ladies. I will decide what's best for me, my family and my unborn baby thank you - CHEAP doesn't come into it. I suggest you keep your negative opinions to yourself. The other ladies were asking for help NOT lectures and scaremongering. edited by Amalfi on 05/04/2012

Hi ladies, I too am pregnant here without insurance and will travel home at 30 weeks for the summer and have my baby there. I have been paying as I go for appointments with Dr Natalia at Cooper Clinic, as she came highly recommended here and I too am very happy with her. I went for my first Drs appointment here at 16 weeks (I was home for Xmas and had a check up with my own GP then) and it was what I would call the booking in app with bloods/scans etc. It cost 2400 dhs. My second app at around 23 weeks, which I scheduled this way as we had visitors and it wasn't a problem, was the anomally scan and cost 1275 dhs. I will have one more app before I go home, which will just be a general checkup, scan, letter for airline and copy of my file to bring home with me- can't imagine it being more than 1000 to 1200dhs. HTH
