We had a great view at Madinat Junction. Yes, there were a few breaks in the parade but that was to be expected given that the roads were not closed. Spectacular. Different to last year's parade where the U-turn at Madinat was jammed and the cars sat for ages just revving their engines (very exciting). This year most of the drivers took the opportunity to open up as they came through the junction, some even leaving a gap between the ones in front so they could floor it! There were quite a few very special cars in there, and many of the drivers were obviously delighted to be spotted - we waved and they waved back or flashed their lights or used their horns. I loved it. :win:

Hi CoffeeBean. How great that you are getting called for interviews, but you must be frustrated that it hasn't come to fruition. Is there any way you can contact your previous interviewers and ask for some feedback? If you are honest with them and say that you want constructive criticism to help you moving forward then they may answer truthfully and give you the pointers you require. You are already doing your research and we assume everything else is correct (dress code, timeliness, eye contact, enthusiasm without desperation!). Please don't let this affect your confidence as it may be something simple. Fingers crossed!

Don't forget the Camel Milk Cafe in Dubai Mall ... "Majilis" - it is in the jewellery souk, just near the bronze camels and it serves coffees made with camel milk, ice cream milkshakes (a real treat for lactose intolerant people!) and cakes. It also sells cheeses and the camel milk chocolate to take away.

Dear Hafsanaz Welcome to Dubai! I hope that you find the information you are looking for and I am sure you will make some lovely Indian friends here, however please can I add that I personally - and I am sure many of my friends - love meeting new people at the coffee mornings. The ExpatWoman coffee mornings are for everyone, all backgrounds and nationalities, and some of the groups are for ladies with young children too. Find one near to where you are living and try it - the hostesses are amazing and will introduce you to people. Hopefully you will love it. I realise that you have a budget to stick to - the cost is AED25 (including coffee and a cake!) maybe it would be a good investment to do this a couple of times to increase your social network if you can. We don't all look like models (I wish I did!!). There are some very good cheaper salons which do excellent work. There have been some previous threads on here about it, you may find them if you do a search. It is always difficult when you first arrive. Don't forget that many of us have at some point been in exactly the same position, our husbands off all day at their new job which takes a huge amount of time and effort, and we ladies are left finding our way around. It helps to talk, laugh, exchange stories and have some support ... and that is exactly what the Expat Woman Coffee Mornings are for. Good luck hope our paths cross one day.

Thank you for posting the link, Blimey... Let's hope the report of no deaths is true, but sounds like the driver is in very serious condition.

Confused. Why would anyone down thumb post asking for "thoughts and prayers"? . I hope it was, as Alismum said, simply the incident itself they were thumbing down - sad to think otherwise.. :(

There has been the most awful crash on AKR which will affect traffic South bound (Abu Dhabi) between Latifa Rd and Meydan Rd for most of the morning I should think: A truck heading North (Sharjah) has somehow travelled from the first lane across the whole highway and through the crash barrier, mostly on its side, ploughing through everything on the AD-South side - many many lives will have been lost as there are vans, cars etc flattened. Dreadful. Just so very sad to think of these poor souls who had no idea of their fate this morning. My prayers are with all the injured and their loved ones and families. On a basic note, it is going to affect everyone travelling to work this morning too but please, in your frustrations, think of the bereaved and injured. :brokenheart: :rainbow:

Hello Mairam. Very sorry to hear your dad has to have spinal surgery. During the last 5 years I have had many experiences throughout Dubai following surgery L4-L5 and L5-S1 in 2010. I have also just undergone neck surgery C3-C4 and C4-C5 combined with shoulder surgery. I have been to many hospitals and surgeons throughout this time - I can't tell you about the bad ones but I would like to pass on a good recommendation. The latest surgery was at MedCare Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital, Dr Hassan Khadri did the spinal surgery. He has also been helping me with my continued pain following the failed back surgery in 2010. I can thoroughly recommend him and all the team at MedCare Orthopaedic - it is just off the Safa Park junction of SZR.... the bronze building you can see from SZR. My first experience with Dr Hassan was 18 months ago when, I was still in severe pain after two major surgeries on my back and several other procedures like nerve blocks which didn't work, I had been looking for a solution and consulted with 6 difference spine surgeons, including one in England, and of these people Dr Hassan was the only one who said do not do any more surgery (others wanted to take out all current implants and start again). Now, following intensive physio and a few more nerve blocks I am almost pain free. This gave me huge confidence in his abilities. So, when I was experiencing problems earlier this year and he diagnosed failed discs in my neck, with severe prolapses, and said urgent surgery was required, I was 100% confident in his diagnosis. The surgery was carried out at the same time as major shoulder surgery - I have degenerative disc disease and severe osteoarthritis - and now, 7 weeks later, life is great! I always had cold hands and dropped things (thought I was just clumsy)... the surgery has cured this and now I keep wondering who these hot little hands belong to tucked up next to me in bed!!! I was given a full check up prior to surgery which included cardio and blood tests. The surgical team were great. The hospital is efficient and clean and very friendly. Physiotherapy is available in their own rehab suites just along the road. I can also recommend Dr Fariba at Advanced OrthoSpine Health Center, Al Wasl (near NBD) for Physiotherapy. I hope this helps. I know how very upsetting this news is for you all but there really is no need to travel and yes you are correct that being here will be much better as his abilities may be fairly limited for a while afterwards. Fingers crossed and prayers for your father. If you need any further info then please let me know.

In England I usually put up the tree and decorations 2 weeks before because it was a fresh tree and greenery from the garden/hedges. Here if we have guests/family then as early as possible... however this year I have to wait for DH to assist (recent neck/shoulder surgery means I can do it alone!) and he is not free until 5th December so am mentally planning all the colour schemes and wreaths/swags and wondering whether I need to buy anything more this year!!! We also believe that Christmas decorations must be down by 12th night - which is the night of 5th January - as it is the eve of The Epiphany.

We love Fayrooz Lounge at Al Qasr and Al Bayt Lounge at The Palace. Both provide plentiful food, great and friendly service. In both Lounges the views are magical too. (The Palace Al Bayt Lounge - vouchers in Entertainer).

Is it just me, or is there a problem with the website - I can't navigate through the Forum Posts... when I click "next post" or "last post" it just refreshes the same page. All other navigation seems OK? :-(

Hi Hope15. Norton Internet Security/Antivirus has such great support... you can get online deals for the software which is downloadable and therefore immediate. I use Saverpoint.com - for example this year I paid GBP17.50 for a year's subscription for a 3-user package (ie, it can be installed on 3 different pcs, ipad, etc). Also, if you are having virus problems currently, you can download Norton's free Virus Removal Tool - Norton Power Eraser. Go to Norton website and click on Support, then Threat Removal. Good luck!

Still horrendous - just been to have another look! We were stuck for 1.5 hours this afternoon trying to get to Marina Residences 1 and the underpass is shut, so we were sent all the way up to the Mosque to then turn around and queue all the way back with all the traffic going down to one lane at the top of the trunk. Now two lanes are open and lots of police involved directing the traffic but I think it is going to be hours before it clears.

Hi Smartee. I have just had Brazilian Blowout done at Senses Salon, JLT - they used proper products, not cheaper copy. Contact 04-4572290 I paid 800 (negotiated discount with manageress) but my hair is only shoulder length - it is fine but there is lots of it... I was pleased with their service, knowledge and attention. They styled it with the hot irons so it turns under slightly at the ends, not just pulled straight! Only had it done on Monday but good so far. They are in Tiffany Tower, JLT, which can be a nightmare parking, but if you call them as you arrive they will come down with parking access too!

Hi desertrose83 Don't know if you have found the info yet - yes it is the same building. We registered our Wills the other day... we arrived there at 7am (2nd in the queue!) and were seen and all completed in 20 minutes. Otherwise, by the time the doors open at 8am, there are already 20 plus people there, and you may spend all morning waiting with a possibility of not being seen before they close for lunch! Good luck.

Hi Mackshon. We have had a letter from Nakheel through our door this morning (you may have received one too...): Quote: We are working closely with the organizers and authorities involved in Dubai World Record 2014 to ensure that we have full details of the potential effects on Palm residents in terms of access, traffic movement and other relevant factors. We will share this information with you as soon as it becomes available to us." If I get any further info I'll post it....
