Thats why my DS's school got good instead of outstanding. Not enough Arabic according to KHDA,although I personally think there is too much already. I have just worked out (albeit roughly) that in the 9 years of education my daughter has had here in Dubai (8 supposedly studying arabic) that she has spent approx 1000 hours of her school time learning arabic and I can honestly say she can read, write or speak hardly anything at all. What a complete waste of time it has been.

I don't think that is the case at all. It is probably more like that a lot of the "good" schools are outstanding in everything apart from the arabic/islamic studies parts, and that is the only thing holding them back. If they can get those bits sorted, they'll move into Oustanding too. That's the way I've read it. Exactly thats what I said but in a different way. What I meant was if Arabic/Islamic studies is not important to you read the reports before making the decision based purely on the outstanding/good/acceptable results.

We had a 10m pool (which includes a 1.5m jacuzzi area at one end) installed over 5 years ago and I'm pretty sure it cost more than that. This was a fibreglass one with a heater - to have a chiller fitted was going to cost half of the total price again!!

Reading some of the full school reports it appears the main criteria for attaining an outstanding rating is the quality and quantity of Arabic/Islamic Studies. I would read the individual school report before making any decisions based on these results. <em>edited by angela on 07/05/2012</em>

The responsible thing to do is take the female to the vet for an exam and have her speyed ASAP. She will live a longer and healthier life and you won't have more puppies to add to the over-population problem in the UAE. On vet advice she can't be spayed for another 3-4 months hence the fact I whisked the male in for the op the other day I was just surprised that with his plastic collar still on and battered and bruised he still managed it and was asking whether or not post op a pregnancy would be possible. I did not say I would be throwing any possible puppies out onto the streets please don't jump to conclusions <em>edited by angela on 22/04/2012</em>

Thanks Basil. So you only have to be in Dubai for a total of 6 mths a year- not 6 mths at one time? Even my DH who travels a ridiculous amount can manage that:) I will pass the information on to DH's company - thanks. I think the rule is if you leave the country you need to come back in before the 6 month mark or the residency visa will be cancelled

Not sure about al khail but on emirates road in Dubai direction come off at hatta/oman exit (as if going to dragonmart) down road passing dragonmart on your right and the entrance is further down on your right easy to miss so stay in right lane although there is a brown sign just before eta if you get to traffic lights or r/abt (can't remember which it is now) you have gone past it <em>edited by angela on 21/03/2012</em>

When I asked at a Jewellers about this a few months ago they told me that yes it can be done (I asked about White gold) but if it's worn all the time it's likely to only last a few weeks. Would also be interested to know if anyone has had this done successfully

If u do a search this was discussed recently can't remember amount. Thought I would mention that I received SNS delivery yesterday which my mum had sent and Aramex had opened the package looked at price tag which had original price and sale price on and used the original price on their packaging for customs. It wasn't expensive so no problem but made me wonder what figure they would use if no price tag or receipt.

Can't help with the phone as it's only my daughter has one she's got 9900 which is touch screen and keyboard. 49 dhs package only works here although last summer Etisalat had an offer where u could upgrade for a month for 99 dhs which covered international travel. Not sure if they still do that but worth checking

As she will be due to start year 10 in sept you will need to sort out a place asap and submit her list of options for gcse as within the next month pupils in year 9 will be doing this and she may not be able to get her first choices. Whereabouts do u live? Also bear in mind that some secondary schools here do IB in 6th form and not A levels so another consideration
