One of my best friends tied the knot in Cyprus last year and used a company called Aphrodite (http://www.marriageincyprus.com) - they were amazing and made the whole experience completely stress free by dealing with all the organisation, venues, food, flowers, documentation, attestation etc. They literally got on a flight had a relaxing 4 day break and were back as Mr and Mrs - no hassle whatsoever.

Worth noting that there were twin explosions in Beirut which has claimed at least 43 lives - ISIL have claimed responsibility. Bomb scare at Gatwick and London are now on high alert. What is the world coming to!?

Agreed that Rick's Mac Pack Removals have good service but they are pricey and also worth noting that they don't carry insurance in the event there are accidents

Hi, I think the Arte market was designed for people with handcrafted creations such as yours - I actually know 3 people who now religiously operate stalls there. You are guaranteed decent football, especially in the run-up to christmas and people attending Arte are interested in handmade / locally produced goods (i.e. not cheap mass produced) and hence they will have an appreciation for your type of product. One of my closest friends sells home-made bags - she was telling me she made an obscene amount in one day recently and was lucky enough to also get a deal with a buyer for a leading UAE hotel chain....she's now started supplying a range of handmade UAE themed products and she's had to take on staff also. Happy Selling!

Likewise, I have an Aquaracer watch I've had for close to 12 years - I probably wore it solidly for 4 years when I was first given it. Since then it is used a lot sparingly but it appears still in good working order and I've had it serviced / battery changed once direct with Tag. I think it must be due another health check soon so will try to get this done the next time I have time back home. Personally I would be reluctant to get it serviced here by anyone other than Tag as you just never know i) how good they are ii) whether they are genuine and try to charge for much more and iii) whether they will try and do something really dishonest and switch the mechanics with a fake.

I think the best bet would be to hire 'a man with a van' deal - I've done it before to move a load of old furniture which I was giving to a friend (Palm Jumeriah to Deira) which cost 500dhs for 5 hours (which was pretty much a day). We also needed wardrobes dismantled / re-assembled as well as a large sideboard. You may have to pay a bit more for fuel to cover the distance between Al Ghadeer and RAK but shouldn't be too much more. Unfortunately, if you are going down this route, you will need to pay by cash. Happy moving!

The whole point on having an active online ex-pat forum is to share ideas, thoughts and knowledge.....this is what makes interaction stimulating and interesting. As with everything in life, people have different views which causes debate which can get animated at times. I can think of numerous threads where there has been lively, albeit intelligent debate which have been deleted by Admin - a lot of these threads had several pages of postings and were just deleted. Hence heavy censorship has the effect of i) deterring women from expressing different views and ii) preventing any kind of debate and iii) preventing women from putting in any effort into posting given the risk of the thread being deleted. Hence I have seen a number of informed women leave EW and the board is relatively stagnant. Instead of discussion around a variety of topics, the board is now heavily populated with the usual "Please help me / my husband find a job" postings. Sigh.....

I would recommend the iRobot Roomba - we put this on every 2 or 3 days, usually when we go out for work and it never ceases to amaze us how much stuff is picked up.........just so much dust in Dxb! Once a week, we get the proper vacuum out to give the sides a once-over but the vacuum chore is made far easier.

Has anyone ever seen either of these in Dubai? I've checked the usual suspects (Organic Store, C4, Geant, Choithrams, Union Co-op) but they are proving illusive.

I would also like to recommend Platinum Heritage - amazing experience which is completely different to normal desert safaris, far less commercial and offers a number of unique photo opportunities in a relaxed environment (i.e. the guides aren't waiting to rush you to the next landmark to fit a schedule)

if you don't want to spend expat prices from the likes of Marina, there is a whole minefield of furniture on the secondary market where there is an excellent choice for a fraction of the cost of buying new. population turnover in Dubai is always very high so there are always households who need to leave (often unexpected) and have no alternative than to list on dubizzle. Well worth a look...

We use Metropolitan Maids - AED 35 an hour and there is a lady called 'girlie' who we've had a number of times. Very good attitude - we always tip well as she always insists on working right until her pick-up........sometimes the pick-up can be over an hour late.

You can write to RERA regarding the landlord not meeting their obligations - unfortunately you situation is pretty much the norm as opposed to the exception in this region. Once landlords have their cheque they don't care and Real Estate agents are mainly responsible for finding tenants so, likewise, they aren't motivated to help. If you plan on renewing your tenancy at the end of the year, I'm sure your landlord and/or agent will be in touch. At this time, you can net off the rent cheque against any costs incurred for the duct / tap. Good luck

Hi, For wow factor, I always swear by Westin / Al Qasr for their champagne brunches which has never failed to impress! Between venues, I have done the brunches around 20 times and I still love going myself. The sheer scale of options and the quality of food / drinks / entertainment is really hard to match in Dubai.....for tourists coming to Dubai, it seems mindblowing. Happy brunching!

in my experience, I've always secured the best rates via the Exchange Houses - I usually go somewhere where there are a few of these which allows for the best exchange rates as well. If you have an account with an International Bank, you can easily set up offshore accounts which will allow you to transfer without charge......but Ive found that these banks sting you on the rates....

Try Gulf Wireless & Television Co in Karama - probably best you do a search on googlemaps - I was there earlier today with a friend who had hers damaged recently. Only cost AED 100 which we thought was a bargain and also allowed us to have an amazing meal at our favourite curry house there

Likewise, I've had 2 friends who have left mobiles in taxis - both had them returned. I left my sunglasses once and the driver was kind enough to deliver them to my house the following day (I didn't even realise where I'd left them). I'm pretty sure DH will get his briefcase back - it is one of the big plus points in Dubai. I've heard that suitcases of cash have been returned and given the briefcase will be of lesser value to a taxi driver, I'd be optimistic you get it back in the coming days. If not, don't fret - most embassies can issue emergency travel documentation for these sorts of situation so I think you may still be able to travel as planned. Good luck!

Thanks Buster - will give Kirsty a call this week. Badger, its 35m and registered in Dubai - we will be looking for a buyer over the next year or so but thought I'd start getting the ball rolling as this could take some time to shift. I'm really looking for this to be marketed via an agent as opposed to listing on Dubizzle

Just head to any of the main malls which will have a number of electronics places where you can compare prices / selection of white goods and you will also have piece-of-mind in terms of having a warranty. As you prefer brand new goods, this is the best way to go.

I usually try to head abroad for EID break but as DH's passport is being renewed, we are staying in UAE this time around. We were a bit disorganised this time around so our usual favourites in RAK and Fujairah are fully booked. Managed to get a really good deal on YAS for 2 nights which will make a nice change......I think most visitors from other gulf countries visit Dubai as do most UAE residents who don't live in Dubai. There still seems to be decent options in the capital. EID Mubarak!

Hi Bouncy390, Congrats on your son's achievements - very impressive! Things typically work much slower here so I wouldn't be concerned that he hasn't heard anything in 2 weeks. I would probably budget around 3 months to start really getting good traction. The son of our close friends just managed to get into Reuters on an internship basis but it took him 6 months to secure an offer. DH recently advertised for a graduate and competition was pretty fierce so I would recommend you contacting your network and make it known that your son is in the market.....a lot of these opportunities are not advertised and this might give you son a bit of an edge with less competition. Good luck!
