That's not bad actually, thought it would be extortionate but it's the same price as all the others. Are they well supervised though, I always seem to have doubts about that place for some reason! Well, it's 800 per child if you don't get 5 people together. I was quite concerned myself the first day so I sent my maid in with my girls the first day. She reported back to me all the details of what went on inside and it seemed ok. The fact that my girls wanted to go back every day made me feel much more relaxed...

Yes! My girls did one week of Kidzania summer camp in July. They did the Bache workshop. They loved it so much that they will not consider going to any other summer camp, even though I wish they would because I don't like driving to the DM. Anyway, I am enrolling them for another week in August because they loved it so much. If you can get 5 people to enroll and pay at the same time, you get a discounted rate of 680 per week, snack and lunch included...

I did it in January. I can't remember what documents were required but what I can tell you is that I was pleasantly surprised by how efficient it was. I was in and out of there in less than 30 minutes. I recommend that you go to the one in Al Twar so you can have the eye test done on the spot. Lucky you! TWO hours it took to do mine as they were sooooooo slow and people kept jumping the queue, until one attendant realised I'd been sat there patiently waiting for ages and pulled me forward. pffffff That's strange. They must do things differently in different branches because where I went, there was no line. You just have to take a number so no cutting in line would be able to happen.

I rented a car once in Austria and returned it in France. It is expensive but doable. I think it cost me about 300 euros for the drop-fee.

I suppose it just depends on which hospital you are at. I had all four of my children here in Dubai and I was always well taken care of, particularly for the last two children that I had at the government hospital. I had the opposite experience to BintNizam.

How long has this maid been with you? If she has been a good employee for, let's say 5 years, I'd let it slide. But if she has only been with you a few months, I would be concerned... she has been with me for 5 months now, she usually leaves thursday afternoon and come back friday night. and yes I am concerned about the way she dresses and behaves because she is taking care of my son when I am at work and I do not want her to end up bringing someone to the house while we are at work. I am sure she is dating someone, however it is not my business, what I care about is the safety of my son and not to get my DH into a trouble since he is her sponsor. PS: and I also know that as per UAE law , she is suppose to dress modestly. In that case, I would be concerned. It is time for you to have a talk with her...

The birds are aggressive here and not pleasant like in my home country. Once I was sitting on my back step and one landed on my head! Another time, I found one flying around my bedroom. It was not easy to catch it.

I don't wish to burst anyone's bubble here but like it or not if you are a resident here you benefit from in some way or turn a blind eye to any under the rug goings on because you KNOW you do not have a voice to fight them yet remain here anyway because you need the job yourself. And anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves. The only people who can rightfully say it is not done wrong, it is bad, are those who say so as they sit in another country and refuse to come. There is the thumb down option so you can further be in denial. But if you have a resident visa… you are on board with everything here, like it or lump it you sold your values for the job that brought you here. edited by Londiamond on 22/07/2014 I think that all of us expats, of all races and religions and all walks of life, have come here for a better standard of living and more money. Everything is relative in terms of what is a better standard of living depending on where the expat comes from... This is such a generalization though, I'd be making more money, have a better job and a better standard of living in my country than here, but I came here because I wanted to see the world and Dubai is a very good hub. Now that I've run out of places to visit, I'm ready to leave Dubai. So no, not everyone is here to make money! I'll change my post to most expats then. But I have to say, I have not ever heard anyone else say that they came to live here for the travel opportunities. Really ? Yes, really. You would have to really love traveling if you are willing to put that above all the negatives of living here...

ideally you should live in a high rise apartment block in a well developed (but new building)... have a look at some of the apartments in Dubai Marina or JBR... they are likely to be bug free and have relatively good maintenance contracts by no means should you move into a villa... coz then creepy crawlies are guaranteed! I was planning to move into a villa. I would accept at some point that it is in nature and can see some litre spiders but "creepy crawlies"? This is what I'm mostly scared of. What do you do i. e. when you see one? Ant I leave it alone Gecko I pick them up and put them out Roach only ever saw one and it wasn't in my house I live on the ground floor and the only thing I see are birds Ant I'm fine Gecko I can manage Roach can also be seen here in where I live, but if you leave food around. And I'm so careful about cleanness. If you say that you've seen just one, I hope I'll be fine with my living habitudes. What about rats?

I have lived in Europe, Asia, North America, and the Gulf region and here is by far the place where you see the least amount of insects. There is really no need to worry here more than you'd worry anywhere else. Like you, I am generally afraid of all insects and I have some in my house but I just deal with them. I generally put a cup over them and let someone else deal with it later...

I know from experience that a maid's signature is not required to do a renewal. You might want to consider talking to her sponsor to hear the other side of the story. If this sponsor is not willing to transfer her, she may give you a hard time.

If you are really against breastfeeding, then go straight to formula. It will save you lots of money because breast pumps are expensive. Also, if you are not breastfeeding, then you will have your freedom and you can leave the baby as much as you want without having to rush home...

A 10 month-old should not be drinking cow's milk anyway. Why don't you give your baby baby formula? Your baby should be getting his/her nutritional needs met at this age through formula or breast milk. Please get him/her back on formula ASAP.

Our DD is at Gems Royal Dubai and we are really happy with it. Our DD was very upset about the thought of 9 weeks away from school when they broke up in June. We did think about DESS but the commute is not easy. As we have to rely on the bus service we wanted a short journey. I would also apply at DESS if it weren't for the distance. I also live in the Mirdif area..
