I have a June born DS. He is due to start FS 1 in 2015. If I hold him back, my only concern is that he may appear so much older than the rest of the class. He would be turning a year older than all the other students during the school year. Would that seem strange?

My children recently attended a birthday party there and we paid the admission fee. I don't think it is tacky at all. It would be difficult as you said to pay everyone's entrance fee and I think your guests will understand that. Plus, the entrance fee is only 5 dirhams so it won't break the bank...

Hi Mrs DB. I was induced last month. I was totally against it for the same reasons as you but the doctor convinced me that I had to do it because I had gone over my due date. Fortunately, I didn't end up with a c-section. The induction pessary worked as expected and the contractions started about 7 hours after it was inserted. However, I was already 41 weeks pregnant, 2 cm dilated, and my cervix was getting ready to begin labor. Personally, if I were you, I would not agree to be induced at 38 weeks. 38 weeks is not even full-term according to new regulations. It is hard to say no to a doctor, though. They bully you and treat you like an arrogant patient if you go against their advice. Ask your doctor to give you one or two more weeks and agree to the constant monitoring. That is what I did, but eventually they could not wait and I had the induction. Doctors are just trying to cover themselves, and I understand their point too...

If you can afford it, then go for it! You deserve to get as much rest as you can and you'll feel better all around if you can get some proper rest. Anon how are you doing with #4? :) Thanks for asking, TDB! I am at the point where I'd love a newborn nurse. My son is not a good sleeper so far. I know that things will eventually get better, but it is hard when you are going through it. I wanted a small age gap between my children, but I find having a newborn is much more difficult when you also have a toddler...

I came to Dubai 8 years ago after I had been recruited from the UK by a large, local company. My boyfriend of 8 years tagged along and was lucky to find work just a few days after our arrival. Since then we've been married, had babies and changed jobs. Our original plan was to stay for 2-3 years... 8 years later I miss home badly and would like to leave Dubai. I don't want our children to grow up here and I'm disappointed that Dubai can progress so far in some ways but not very far in other ways, and frankly I'm tired of it. I will always have the Middle East in my heart but I want mine and my familys future to be in Europe. Oh really? You are not from Mississippi?

Thank you for all your responses. I really appreciate them. I am supposed to report to the maternity ward tomorrow morning at 7 am for the induction. Well, I have made up my mind and am not going. I will still go to the hospital tomorrow but I will just see a doctor instead. I am now 41 weeks and I have decided that I will wait it out until 42 weeks. It is not abnormal to go two weeks past your due date and I am a bit annoyed that doctors here would say that I need to be induced. I am not being irresponsible. I am going to the hospital every 48 hours for a CTG and my baby is not in distress! Although I am annoyed to still be pregnant since my other three children were all born before their due dates, I am not in such a rush to be induced tomorrow morning... <em>edited by AnonDubai on 24/02/2014</em>

A few years back, I was told by my DD's school that they had places so I paid the 500 dirham fee and she was assessed. After she passed the assessment, I was told that there were no places. I was really peeved and put up a stink about it. I would not have paid just to be wait listed. A letter was sent to the principal. The next day, I had a call saying that a place had opened up for her and she started immediately. So I learned at that time that it is best to speak up. If I had sat back quietly, she may have never gotten a place at all.
