Thank you. This is the drawback of buying a bike online. I cannot fit the bike in my car and I am not going to dismantle the tire. I am planning to go to Carrefour and buy what Alismum linked to.

Regular ice cream cake purchaser here...Cold Stone creamery has definitely the nicest tasting ice cream cakes. Haagen Daz comes in second. Baskin Robbins is not even in the same league as those two shops as their cakes are not that tasty or even nice looking. Yes, I agree. The BR cakes are not delicious....

Madge, I did say that it was a stupid question. I felt that I should know the answer, but I did not so I asked on here and got an informative response. I ordered a bike for my daughter from mumzworld and it arrived with tires that need air. I could not have anticipated that and I had no idea what to do....

Maybe it's because sadly, if the gender is known early, certain people may try and abort the baby because they prefer boys over girls! We all know very well this happens a LOT in certain countries - I would suspect this is the major reason why some hospitals have this policy and why they will only tell you the gender at a late stage. Your suspicions are wrong. They reveal the gender at a late stage to be completely sure. There have been instances where they revealed it early, said it was a girl and then turned out to be a boy. Also, it is policy everywhere (usually some do not adhere by it) that the Doctor tell you the gender. The technician is never allowed to say anything. That is incorrect. A technician told me the gender of my baby in October 2013 at the government hospital here...

That is not the case. They told me the gender somewhere else. It is just the hospital's policy and I didn't like that policy....

I must be the EW member you are referring to. When I went for my twenty-week scan there, I was very excited to find out the gender of my baby. The technician told me that she could not tell me because it was against their policy although the doctor had told me that I would know with 100% accuracy after this scan. I had my children with me and we were very disappointed to go home without knowing but I was told by the technician that she would put a note on my file for the doctor to call me and tell me. The nurse called me back but said that if you want to know the gender, the doctor will tell you at your next visit. I really wanted to know at that point and I could not wait any longer! I emailed them with a complaint but they never responded to me. It really put me off because it was supposed to be a happy moment. I know that it is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but I was led to believe that they would tell me the gender. I had to go do another twenty-week scan because of this!!

How about NMC Specialty Hospital? It's very close to Zulekha and in a similar price range. I had two children there with Dr. Babita Shetty. She is a competent, no nonsense doctor and she has a stake in the hospital so she doesn't play games.... I went to Al Garhoud Private Hospital. I can't recommend any doctor there, though. I got angry with them because they wouldn't tell me the gender of my baby so I never went back there for pregnancy issues....

Sometimes I think that we are heading toward the end of having maids in the UAE. Locals have trouble getting maids nowadays because the agency fees are so high. Expats have trouble getting maids too because the visa fees and other costs are so high. The average Joe in the street has begun charging a transfer fee for his dud maid... People are hiring illegals or participating in maid-sharing schemes. No one is getting fined while the sponsors who are afraid of being fined lose out because their maids would like to work elsewhere.... Maids are becoming more demanding and don't really want to do maid duties. It is embarrassing when the maid starts to look better than the Madame! This country will now need to start focusing on building better infrastructure so the society as a whole is not dependent on housemaids (i.e. nursing homes, daycare centers)... In the meantime, the countries where the maids come from are not giving them better job opportunities at home so they still need to come here, a need that many of us cannot understand....

Yes, come on! Don't be afraid! People who won't do things out of fear will never go far in life! Once you start driving, you can join some groups and you can start making friends. You can also get yourself to the local park and you will usually see the same faces there and that is also a way to make friends...

Well, you just need to face your fears. It is really not that scary once you get used to it plus the traffic is so bad in your area that no one can pick up speed! Why don't you go out practice driving with your DH on a Friday morning?

In my sons class only two children are new enrollments. Everyone else is a sibling. Now with FS1 the chances of getting into Dess is even slimmer for new enrollments. That is why I am hesitant to apply there. It will cost a lot of money just to be put on a waiting list. Do you have to keep on paying an application fee every two years if your children are on the waiting list?

I am the opposite of you. I have suffered from acne for more than 20 years now and amenorrhea due to pregnancy and breastfeeding (with 4 children) has been the only natural thing to clear my skin. Now that my DS is 7 months old, my acne is coming back because I suspect that my body is springing back into action fertilitywise... I don't believe in any natural methods. At least they never worked for me. The only thing that works is medicine, topical or oral. Because you are pregnant, oral medication is out. So you can buy Benzac at any pharmacy. That is the market name for benzoyl peroxide. Don't put too much on though and not too often...

I was wondering what kind of car your have, Daza. I definitely need a new car. We are very cramped in my current 7 seater...Which 7 seater do you drive now, Anon? I have a Mercedes GL 500. It is a good car but not big enough for my family. I have had two more children since I got it and it is really cramped when I travel with my entourage (4 kids and 2 maids). Forget about doing any grocery shopping because the bags will not fit in the car when the stroller is in the trunk!

We bought a used Mercedes Viano 2 years ago (used for 2 years by a transport company before us) and it has been an excellent car. The way we have the seats setup is corporate transport style with all the back seats facing each other so there are 5 places in back. I see some set up with 3 and 3 in the back. We have tons of space, easy to get in and out, and there is still lots of storage in the back. It is not a sexy car but it was cheaper than many of the big suvs but was also more expensive than a minivan. Almost no issues but we keep it up regularly. The back doors slide rather than fully open so it means no kids hitting other peoples cars. I I am really interested in getting one of these. I have seen the interior and it is so spacious and the trunk space is great. Do you have trouble parking it? How is it driving it?

I love love love my Honda Odyssey. It depends on why you need the extra seats but if it is because you often have a lot of passengers the Odyssey is brilliant. The back seats are really flexible. You can have six back seats, three in the second row and three in the back row. They are all proper full time seats not fold down or you can disappear the middle back seat in to the floor if only five rear seats are needed. The middle second row seat can also be removed or folded down to be a cup holder. It has a good boot, I've had three children's bikes, three scooters and a buggy in there, tight fit but they did all go in! It is comfortable, is nice to drive and has good air con. As Redrec says, it does really well in safety tests. It has rear sliding doors which is very handy in mall car parks. Did I mention I love it? :) I was wondering what kind of car your have, Daza. I definitely need a new car. We are very cramped in my current 7 seater...

Yes bored but also curious. Still cant understand the point of including centuries when none of us will live to see it. Well, we may not last but the phone could. We can pass it on to future generations. Your great-great-great-great grandchild could use your phone! It could be like an antique. With the prices we pay for these phones, why shouldn't they last hundreds of years?

IMO, if you would like your nanny/housemaid to be doing the night shift, then you should either hire two or put your baby in nursery during the day. It is not fair for a nanny to be having to work around the clock (Even though us mothers have to!) and it is in the best interests of your baby to be taken care of by a well-rested nanny....

One only needs to look at this board to see that people do go to brunches, resorts, shopping malls, salons, etc... Of course they do. But let's not forget that lots of people here live off credit cards. Levels of personal debt here are very high, but that's skewed by the fact that so many people have to take bank loans to pay 1-cheque rent. We know people who regularly go to brunches etc, but without exception they're all either single or couples without kids. Malls tend to be busy most days so there are people spending who can afford to spend Malls are busy in part because they give people somewhere to go, but when you actually look at where people are spending, it's the normal everyday shops, not the big-ticket ones. Are all the jewellery shops, boutique clothes shops etc always full of people buying? Of course not. edited by Madge_Gustard on 01/10/2014 No, but that is the same in any city where you have expensive shops. You usually don't see lots of people in the LV store in Zurich or Boston, for example.... [u'>[b'>Malls are doing business. People are spending. If they weren't doing good business, you'd find lots of empty spaces like you see at the Festival City. That is the only mall I know of that has a lot of free retail space....[/b'>[/u'> I don't agree. I hate malls and never go unless I need something but as hot as it is now, we go and get a meal with the family just for something to do. We eat and leave without buying anything. When it is hot, it is a place for people to go but that doesn't mean they are spending. If you have eaten, then you have patronized a business. Others will not eat but just shop and some will do both....

Please can anyone advise of any forums that allow Arab women to speak freely and anonymously about their cultural contradictions and differences and does this forum allow that? To answer the OP, I don't know of any other forums for Arab women. There must be some but they would all be in Arabic so none of us can help you on that. Yes, this forum allows Arab women to speak freely as long as it's in English.

Actually, the more that I think about it, I am not happy with TP but it is more of an organizational issue... They frequently stiff you of lessons rather than just not charging you for them. For example, I just got an email stating there is no class on Sunday. Well yes, Sunday is a holiday that has been in the school calendar for a long time now. So since their policy is not to have lessons if the school is closed, then why do I have to pay for Sunday's missed lesson? They are offering me a make-up class but I am not really interested in driving around Dubai for a 40 minute class. They should not be charging for Sunday, plain and simple... Owner, if you are reading this, I am getting fed up and will not be continuing with TP next term after more than 4 years!

I don't know how old your DD is but if she is playing mousy, I would have to assume that she is about 4 like my girls. There is a class observation at the end of each term for their age group. That is not a show and they have never told me that it was a "show". As for the broken foot, I understand that it is annoying but the boss probably felt that she was still ok to teach while it was healing...

I recently had about 5 kilos to lose after I had a baby in February. This summer, I decided that I could no longer just ignore the fact that I hadn't lost the baby weight. So I went drastic and I stopped eating meals after 3 pm. I generally only eat raw carrots and cherry tomatoes and drink San Pellegrino for dinner. I lost about 4 kg in a month and I have managed to keep myself at my pre-baby weight. I know it sounds bad but I eat a lot before 3 pm and munching on carrots at the dinner table keeps my mouth busy...
