My Indonesian maids have been telling me for years that maid salaries are much better in Hong Kong. I smile and say, "How nice", and leave it at that. I'm not worried. If they truly wanted to work there, they would not have chosen to come work in the UAE for the salary they were promised. Maids do go to their local recruitment office and choose which country they wish to work in.

Have you considered the French mustards? Amore moutarde is mighty spicy and zingy, and that's the "normal" one.

I've used green n blacks cocoa powder. when I ran out, i took a tip from a baking friend and bought Carrefour's own brand cocoa powder, which comes in a brown cardboard box. It is as good as G&B.

YorkieScott why do you want someone else to massage your baby. Isnt it better to do it yourself since its a great way of strengthening your bond with your baby. There are plenty of good videos on you tube for the same. My neighbor has gone to the Healthbay clinic baby massage CLASS with each of her infants. From what she says, the class is more of a chance for women to form social bonds with other women who have kids the same age, so that if they hit it off, they can be friends and organize playdates for their kids. there is also the massage element where all mothers do the same thing to their baby at the same time.

I just have my normal hair length which makes me feel/look like someone from startrek You mean you look like a Klingon woman with your lovely receded hair line :) I have something similar so I did some research [url=here [url='>www.beautypedia.com[/url'> '>link[/url'>and discovered that vitamins and water filters wont help nor will any special shampoos or conditioners. First get some blood tests done to rule out possibilities. Only Rogaine for Men (higher minoxydil concentration) will do the job, as long as you keep up daily application. edited by Apricot on 11/12/2013

Hi blondie007, yes they are the same thing. Cannot recommend a place as I don't have Body Book, and I have only had it done at Dubai Ladies Club in Dubai! I would visit the salon or spa before making a telephone booking. I once spent an afternoon driving to each salon on Beach Rd and walking in, surprising how many are really grotty and sad inside.

I buy Carrefour Lemon Liquid Soap for all household cleaning, including window washing. I buy 6 big bottles every 20 days so it has to smell pleasant and be relatively economical. Bottle has to say "Carrefour" rather than "1". It has a pleasant lemony-pineapple scent. I have bought and tried every generic lemon scented dishwashing liquid soap at Carrefour and Union Coop. I only ever bought Fairy once, and that was in my search for a sub for Dawn soap during a time when a trip to Spinneys was more convenient than a trip to Safestway. I bought both the local, opaque white Fairy and the UK Fairy. Wouldn't buy either again.

Yes, I have been in that boat. I would go to the Karama post office with the US customs form numbers. Keep in mind that the post office employees take a break between 1 and 4.30pm. The worst they can do is ask you to check at the big post office in Um Hurair (close to Al Mamzar Beach Park). Also bring cash with you as they may ask you to pay a "storage fee" for having kept your packages safe for your (late) collection. I have been asked to produce one of dear husband's business cards to prove my access to the PO Box, and whether I intended to re-sell the items in my USPS package (had I said "yes", they would've charged additional customs duty).

I usually find maid agencies by going to the Etisalat yellow pages website, and calling 8-10 diff companies. There are also cleaning agency listings in the free Arabic classifieds newspaper Al Waseet (distributed every Friday). Those ads are marked by a little drawing of a vacuum cleaner, don't worry most of the people who answer the phone speak English. Good luck!

Ladies sorry to crash the conversation but I have been looking around for a regular tailor to do minor things. Where are they located in Dubai? In AD they are everywhere, but wouldn't want to drive all the way over for minor things!! Thanks so much.I can recommend Dream Girls in Satwa. They are really good, you just have to be specific about what you want done, and double check before you collect finished items. :)

I used to drag my DH to all the hole-in-the-wall restaurants listed in Lonely Planet. Invariably our meal would involve cats, and the night would end with my endless diarrhea, but it was terribly entertaining finding the restaurant, figuring out how to order, etc. There's a nice family restaurant called Turkish House in a residential suburb of Muscat. Their specialty is the whole barbequed fish. DH hates "fishy" fish but he liked this one. I really liked the salads and Turkish bread. And I didn't have diarrhea after the meal!

yes!! I bought them mainly because my monthly allowance didn't stretch to CDs. My fave activity was recording bits from this music request show on BBC world service at 1 am (our local NPR station broadcasted BBC world service from 11pm to 5 am) and discovering new music that way. Some of the craziest: "We are Detective" from the Thompson Twins, and "Walking in the rain with the one I love on my mind" (don't know who sings this but it is enjoyably strange).

MBC producers were definitely courting controversy and publicity for the show when they made the decision to include this young woman. Good on them. They've guaranteed a brief touring career for this young woman, if nothing else, which is a dramatically bigger step than performing in Djmaa el Finaa.

Hi, congrats on your recent move. You can either go to Ace Hardware and look for a "step down transformer" or you can ask someone back in the States to go to Best Buy and buy you a few step down transformers, based on the voltages of your home appliances. There is no guarantee that these will work, and there is always a possibility that the whole process may damage your US configured electrical appliances. Personally, I damaged a Krups toaster oven in the process.

I second Al Huda Sisters. The most positive Islamic group I've found after years of searching! I've heard similar praise for Kalemah classes but have not attended due to distance. Am currently attending a morning Qur'an class and really like the whole vibe. There are ladies' morning Qur'an classes at Princess Haya Ctr in Al Manara (behind Waitrose) but they run from Oct to June. Term 2 will start January 5. The instructor for non-Arab students is lovely. edited by Apricot on 23/11/2013

Hunger Games it's like Battle Royale with a splash of Running Man but just not as good right?I thought the book was far more complex in themes, ideas etc than the film. I watched the film, read the book, then watched the film again. I guess it's more like Orwell's [u'>1984[/u'> or Huxley's [u'>Brave New World[/u'>, but with a female protagonist.

Hi wife of 777, I can recommend the yoga and Pilates classes at Dubai Ladies Club. I've attended both over a number of years. Even if you pay the non-member prices, the classes are cheaper than what you would pay at zen yoga in town centre. I go to Poopak's Sunday morning Pilates class, but if you can do evenings, Khadija is really good too. Christine's aqua yoga class is also lovely.

Hi, I made this for Eid ul Adha recently. Used thinly sliced deli turkey breast instead of prosciutto. Made fresh mushroom duxelles and mixed it with a glass jar of halal duck pate (I see this at C4 and Spinneys). It's super yummy! Let me know if you want inspiration for vegetable side dishes.

I really like Magnolia Bakery for buttercream icing, esp their caramel meringue icing. It has a mild toffee taste and since it's meringue based rather than icing sugar based, less sweet. Ask for French or Swiss meringue buttercream icing and it'll be less sweet.

My son is learning to read in both languages simultaneously at Children's Garden, he's in the English-Arabic section. I believe it's the same for the French-English section. The Arabic reading is a little behind but there are pronunciation markers over and below the letters, which have their own rules, so he's doing well. He chooses 1 Arabic and 1 English storybook at bedtime each night, and I do supplemental literacy and writing activities in both languages with him in the afternoon. He also gets a weekly reading pack in each language from his teachers.

The only things cheaper in Singapore than Dubai are cake decorating and baking supplies. I found a wholesale/retail place called Phuat Huan/ Red Man, in Geylang Lorong and Bake King, a few streets away. I like to seek out and stock up in the region: Li Ying sports wear and Sloggi underwear. There's a store in Little India in Singapore that is like the blueprint for Lulu called Mustafa Dept store, I stocked up on Desitin from their baby section which has a great mish-mash of Western and Eastern baby care supplies. Have never tried to search for cake supplies in Malaysia but it's true, Malaysia is even cheaper than Singapore. BTW I found the baking supply places in Singapore through some creative search words on Google.

Oh, does anyone buy lingerie online? Since Black Friday is coming up, I was wondering whether we can get a good deal on it. Oh, do la senza and victoria's secrets ship to shop&ship/my box? I buy, but I stick to exact styles, brands I recently tried in real life. Macys, kohls, Nordstrom will all have sales. Victoria's Secret in the States goes on sale after Christmas and last week of June. Moms milk boutique sells really nice nursing bras. I spend a lot on bras but I view it like sunscreen as a preventative anti-aging measure.

Union CoOps always have them, Palestinian extra virgin olive oil under union coop label. Been using them for a while now, very reasonably priced and quite good quality.I bought this on a whim and my Lebanese DH was seriously impressed with it. My late FIL used to get our supply from Palestine and I would take some to my dad in California in empty Masafi bottles :)
