I'm surprised there's no Lidl. Or Aldi, very similar then Lidl,NOO!!! I went into one in almost every town we visited in Germany a few years ago and was horrified, I kept hoping the next one would be nicer but nope, same depressing set-up and concept. Maybe it's great for stocking up on batteries, home cleaning products, etc but the lack of choice in every category really bothered me, and I imagine it would not sit well with most people here. There is a shop with hairdressing supplies, it's called Nazih Trading and they have several branches. Another one is called Millia, on 2nd of December / Dhiyafa Rd near KFC.

I can't be specific as I haven't been in that area for a long time (worked there), but I do recall Akaru Spa at the Aviation Club and Bliss Reflexology behind Welcare Hospital. Akaru often does special offers and I know several women who go there regularly. Bliss has been there for a long time and has a second branch in Jumeira.

I have also been searching high and low for a Thai green curry that doesn't blow my head off. Lemongrass Express is really nice. I get their seafood salad, pad thai with shrimp, veg spring rolls, tofu w mixed veg. DH goes out to get it. My family prefers Papa John Pizza but I like a crappy tuna sweetcorn pizza on occasion, which Papa John doesnt offer, and Domino's is lovely for this :) Their original/traditional crust is really good, not as bread-y as Papa John, nor paratha-y like Pizza Hut.

I have an LG Direct Drive and I dont know why I purchased it. I had an LG at home and it sounded like a 747 taking off, now after 3 years this one the direct drive has turned into an A380 (its a bigger model than my other one). Will NEVER buy an LG washer again. That is rather strange...perhaps yours was defective to begin with? I have a LG DirectDrive 7kg front loader, and I could barely hear it (I can see it from where I normally sit), and sometimes I forgot it was running until I hear the musical notification at the end of the cycle.I have the same LG washing machine and really like it. It was soo good when I was doing cloth diapers. BTW, saw a Miele washing machine and clothes dryer at Cash Convertors earlier this week.

Not at a hotel but my son was particularly keen to try the high tea at the cupcake store opposite Pottery Barn at Dubai Mall. Sorry the name escapes me but from memory it was 65 dhs per person with a good selection of goodies to eatBloomsbury Cupcakes ;) I tried the high tea at Plaisir du Chocolat in Mercato, there were more desserts than savory items. Have also tried high tea in hotels (my other half is obsessed, keeps dragging me to them, and all I really want are the savory sandwiches he wont touch plus some eclairs). There's an entertainer voucher for high tea at the Westin Mina Seyahi.Their buffet lunch is amazing so I'm guessing high tea would be yummy.

Children's City in Creek Park is a great morning activity, they open at 9am, with a basic Malik Burger cafe inside. A bunch of Dubai-themed exhibits so interesting for your sister too. There's a sand pit near the entrance and a small water play table in the toddlers room so bring spare clothes for DD. Also planetarium. Another lunch option would be nearby Wafi Mall or Lamcy Plaza (masala dosa at Bombay Chowpatty).

Explain that you are thrilled with the sentiment and love behind choosing the gift, but you would really like to exchange it. DH bought me a plain brown purse from Harvey Nichols in MOE, I exchanged it for a purple purse 2 days later. DH often buys me stuff I dont like. If it's something I know I can exchange, I tell him I don't like it and want to exchange, but if it's something that can't be exchanged I will say "Oh, how sweet! You were thinking of me! Where did you get it from...", put it away. a few months later I'll use it and point it out, asking his opinion of how it looks, etc. Sometimes he will say, "Hmm, it doesn't really suit you".

I have not 1 nurse friendly top or t-shirt and I don't think doing a striptease before putting on the breastfeeding cover is going to work out for me. You can do the striptease [i'>after[/i'> you put on the breastfeeding cover, then bring baby underneath to nurse. Practice a few times at home beforehand.

Nurseries under more regulation now, the nursery my children attend is now regulated by KHDA and new policies have been implemented. I completely understand the nursery director's reluctance to support the presence of soiled cloth diapers on her premises. I "gave in" and sent DS2 to nursery in a Pampers pull up ( I would change him into a new Pamper 5-10 min before leaving for nursery), along with a stack of Pampers pull ups to be used in nursery. Once home, he would be changed back into a modern cloth pocket diaper. I appreciate your principles, but the potential hassle involved in convincing nursery director, teacher, teachers aide, the nursery support staff to use them, and use them properly, return soiled diapers to you, keep tabs on returned soiled diapers (because those diapers ain't cheap or easily available) would, for me, outweigh the various benefits of cloth diaper usage during that time period my child spends at nursery.

I was driving in Sharjah late afternoon intending to pick up my step-cousin, who'd just arrived from London to work as an English teacher, from her accommodation and help her with hair-cut, groceries, etc. Turned on the radio for some music but every station was broadcasting news of strange plane crashes. I was distracted between the news, the horrible Sharjah evening traffic and made the same wrong turn several times in a row. All I could think of was Orson Welles' famous radio stunt in the 1950's, and was annoyed with this prank. Tried calling up Radio 4 (104.8) and Dubai 92, lines busy. Eventually Dubai 92 interrupted the broadcast with their own news bulletin and when the news reader burst into tears and had to be replaced by another person to continue reading out the news from New York I realized that the "prank" was real and I'd better head back home. I continue to find it disturbing and upsetting.

For a while Gulf News constantly printed articles on incest, extra marital, and a few bestial affairs in the northern emirates. I guess they were celebrating their new-found access to the court case records in those emirates, or the court records had been translated into English for the first time. Eventually the shock wore off and the articles stopped appearing. Currently there's a campaign on traffic safety, or so I'm guessing from the public service announcements on National Geographic Abu Dhabi. Personally I want an article explaining why I can't watch Baraem kids channel anymore. I have a Badr satellite dish, if anyone can help!

Thank you very much for all the suggestions ladies. I appreciate it. Naiyyar, is there a way to find out about upcoming Pakistani salwar exhibitions? The ones I found by Ego was by chance and it would be nice if I could know about it in advance. Thanks again all. There's a mailing list called Dubai Divas on google groups, originally for Pakistani Muslim women in Dubai. Its members often advertise clothing exhibitions.

I have details of two businesswomen. One has a Facebook page called Sahar Collections and sells mainly ready made clothes and Gul Ahmed material sets (Gul Ahmad is a textile printing factory known for their superior cotton and bang-on-trend prints). I have bought a lot of clothes from her, all fitting your description. She even customized some tops for me when I was breastfeeding. Another is an associate of a Pakistani designer who is a close family friend. She has an expensive line called Adia which is carried by Designer's Lounge boutique opp Sunset Mall on Beach Rd, and she has a diffusion line in cottons and lawn (a thinner gauge cotton specifically for summer clothes) sold by her associate in Bur Dubai. I have worn her designs from childhood (the everyday stuff and the fancy stuff) and her workmanship is top-notch but she charges accordingly.

What I find amusing is different areas of Dubai charge different prices on goods Some cheaper some more expensive. [b'>They should not be allowed to do this![/b'> why not? wouldn't it depend on rents and also on the demographics of the area. Spinney's on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Road has a lot less Western products then the one in Umm Suqeim.Where is Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Rd?? BTW, the Carrefours in MCC and MOE are the most expensive branches. Shindagha branch is much cheaper and often has discounted products (yogurts, fresh pasta, ready-rolled dough, fish products, butter) but less choice/variety overall. Similarly, the new Lulu in Karama is cheaper on a few items than its Barsha branch (they stock 3/4 of the imported items found in the Barsha branch) and I once walked in when their daily deal was mushroom boxes for Dhs 2.50/each; I picked up 5 boxes but no one else was bothered ;) edited by Apricot on 11/09/2013

Will compare both n decide :) I called up the GE agent and he said they haven't brought in any new GE upright freezers, they're currently only selling Samsung upright freezers. Carrefour has an Ariston and a Maytag freezer. Will call Al Ghandi tomorrow re Whirlpool.

Norak, I hope you go ahead with your complaint, pls update us on how it goes. Mostly I'm "frugal" and try to stick to the "reduce to clear" area for my fix of processed goods but I agree, consumers should demand better prices. I always think, wouldn't it be so much nicer if they just sold the goods at a lower price point to begin with, then they wouldn't be faced with excess stock close to expiry.... The red supermarket on Shk Zayed Rd often will have 50-60 boxes of same imported item on its "reduced to clear" shelves, simply because initial pricing was excessive.

There's a small play area in Jumeirah Plaza on the Beach Road. It's very quiet, even on weekends. The best part about it is that the play area is fully enclosed and there is a Dome right outside so parents can sit and have coffee but still watch their children. The prices are also reasonable (65dhs per child?) but I think the minimum number may be 15 children - I can't remember but I think worth you checking out. It's called Safe Play I think. It's DH 40/hr per child. The Dome staff will even bring kids meals (in plastic takeaway boxes) inside the play area (but not the main play section) so child can be fed inside.

Children's City at Creek Park, but time visit when sun not overhead as Municipality has recently felled all the palm trees that lined the path leading towards the bldg. Seriously this place is so under-rated, my kids enjoyed it more and for much longer than Little Explorers in MCC. Pack some healthy snacks as the only option is Malik Burger. Dh 35 for 1 adult, 2 kids, plus about DH 11 park admission (DH 5 adults, DH 3 kids over 2).
