Model years typically do not start on January. 2015 model year starts anytime after Q2, so generally once 2015 shipments start arriving, 2014 models will be given at a discount generally

But as far as I can see they are true Muslims. They pray, fast, don't drink or smoke etc. One of them has a daughter who went to school in Sharjah and was constantly picked on because her mum was not wearing hijab. ? Never underestimate the extent to which people can be judgmental to hide their own insecurities. There are women who start wearing the Hijab and start labeling anyone who does not wear it, with awful labels

. Many times I am waiting for the Filipino/Indian/any service worker to get off their phone or stop chatting, and it doesnt bother me in the slightest. . I don't know if we live in the same city, but if you have to name nationalities, then in my 2 decades here, the ones you mentioned are least likely to use their phone, or use nail polish, or adjust their clothes, and then serve the customer when they feel like doing so,

Lolakitty - why should OP do this? Surely the onus is on the tenant to do all this? Down with the poor!!! not at all - just up with personal responsibility Except that tenants are expected to have a much greater sense of personal responsibility than owners. A landlord can refuse to pay service charges depriving the tenant of parking/access cards/garbage collection, and there is nothing the tenant can do except leave at the end of the contract paying tens of thousands in commissions, moving charges, new deposits etc. A landlord can refuse to return the entire deposit on a whim and it is the tenant who has to take off from work to go to RERA etc to try to get his money back

yeh tell me about the rent in auh, just been hit with a 25% increase, and nothing you can do about it. at least in dxb there are the rules still in place. When the rule was implemented to enforce some people to live in Abu Dhabi, there were quite a few people cheering the rule, including some people here.

Or it could be alarm bells ringing. If she knows the guy, has talked and met a few times, maybe some gut instinct is telling her something is off. How old is she. Someone who is in her early twenties barely knows herself, let alone have life experiences that will guide her to make wise decisions, its quite different being on the cusp of 30. Marry not to please the parents, siblings and second-cousins, or for the so-called social worth of the family she is marrying into. This is one of those decisions that really should be made for herself alone. Wise words indeed To the OP: Try to find out if there is something about the guy that has triggered an alarm and she is to scared to investigate/ask as she fears she will be blamed if the wedding breaks down. That is a very key thing as I know someone who broke down a few hours after the wedding that she could not stay with the guy, and of course it was 100% worse than having said it a few days before the wedding.

Marriage is already going to be stressful for someone who hasn't had a relationship and gotten to know the guy and it will be even more for someone who doesn't know what marital relations are all about until the wedding is arranged. That may be true in some remote areas with uneducated people but almost definitely does not apply to the girl the OP is talking about

Apologies to any American NRA Supporters, but there is a significant section of the American populace, particularly in flyover country, who not only condone but encourage their children to handle guns. You can find pictures of parents posing with their 5 or 6 year olds with assault weapons in disturbing pictures. Their defense is often "we learned to shoot and hunt at 7/8/9 and we never killed anyone". But it does seem odd that a 20 year old cannot drink but an 8 or 9 year old can handle guns that give the ability to wipe out dozens of people in a minute But as I said it depends on the area; Arizona, the Rocky Mountain states and certain parts of Texas and the Midwest are much more gun friendly than the Northeast, California, or the Pacific Northwest

Range Rovers are notorious for so-so reliability and exorbitantly expensive servicing. If you really want one, do what the Emiratis do - buy a brand-new one (mostly on finance) and sell it before the free service contract runs out. Range rovers generally do not come with service contracts in the UAE. And if they do, the price will be jacked up accordingly The FJ has "suicide doors" and if you need to use the back seat regularly they are not the most convenient. It also has blind spot issues due to the small windows and you should test drive one and try parking, changing lanes etc. to see how you feel. A nice option between the Range rover and an FJ would be the LR4. It is a true 4X4, very airy with excellent visibility and has reasonable road presence. The reputation for reliability isn't the best but they do seem to come with a 5yr warranty

I would say that building huge golf courses in the middle of the desert, be it the Gulf or Las Vegas wastes many times more water than buckets of ice And the ski slope! but of course individuals should not wash their cars too often or set their AC's below some temperature :)

The fact that owners benefit from the one payment system and not having to pay any commission means they already enjoy a huge advantage over tenants. Not to mention those owners who refuse to pay any service charges and argue they should not have to pay it. That is why rent laws exist to balance the system a little bit. Too many owners seem to be having a delusion that annual rent increases of 20-30% should be acceptable.

Are you employed? Because if you are and your employer deems any of your behavior outside of the work place unacceptable you will be disciplined. This is the reality of the working world, regardless of whether one is a domestic or a top executive. . When a worker falls foul of the law the employer disciplines the worker. But how many employers here dictate what a worker should be wearing outside the workplace or at home? If the OP is concerned about whether the maid is bringing someone over or not, a camera would be the most logical solution. edited by Arch on 23/07/2014

But many of those that you are talking about would be working in the slums in third world countries - not the west. It is convenient and not to mention somewhat arrogant to lump every "worker" into one category but that is seldom accurate. There are many workers here such as waiters, drivers and so on who never lived in a slum and have reasonable homes and life back home. The reason they move here is because there are no jobs and so they would rather work here than be unemployed. They sacrifice their living standards and trade living with their family to sharing a room with 4 or 6 others in order to earn and send money.

well, it also talks of a "monopoly" for the telephone company, the old thing of drawing a map for your address and the lack of visible police... all things that changed ages ago... edited by Doubting Thomas on 22/07/2014 Do you think the current telecom is better than a monopoly in any significant way? You can only change your cell provider, as for internet and TV (the latter being the source of some appalling customer service over the last 12 months), you are at the mercy of whichever provider is in your area. You will pay and subscribe for a service, and the service will be removed from your package and you will still be forced to pay for it.

Some of the points are not accurate, but the overall theme keeps in line with many things that happen.... The first user comment under the article puts in not so pleasant language the fact that those people who [i'>benefit [/i'> from some of the negative stuff (judging people on nationality, the fact that you can force a maid to work 16 hours a day and the law protects the employer in that case etc) will do everything to pretend all is well and will counter the points saying how everything is good and well. Here is the comment which is true to a large extent "[i'>Obviously going to upset those that have chosen this lifestyle and don't want to accept the bad bits and ignore the injustices. [/i'> [i'>Obviously those that promote what a wonderful life they have in Dubai are those that won the birthplace lottery and got the passport that allowed them human rights, better work and life benefits than others [/i'>" edited by Arch on 22/07/2014 edited by Arch on 22/07/2014 edited by Arch on 22/07/2014

We have mold problems in one of the rooms, which probably happens because of a water leak behind one of the walls. After cleaning the affected areas, we use a fan to keep it dry. At least that is what we are doing till we get a permanenet solution Humidity is no worse this year than others so the water leakage is likely the main reason If you do not mind me asking, what was the name of the mold cleaning company ?

So sad Every time I fly from London to the UAE, the route takes us above Iraq, and that too the northern parts, where there is ISIS control nowadays. Dont know whether there is any risk over there but sure will feel more dangerous now

or so attractive that you get stalked in malls (a bit suspicious about this one as I know several drop dead gorgeous ladies who never mentioned this level of harassment), then Dubai is not the place for you. ... That is a ridiculous thing to say. Stalking does not mean the woman has to be extra attractive, it has happened to quite a few people I know who are plain looking. The one thing that was common to all their cases was that they were alone.

The balcony allocations are very random, somehave 3 balconies with 3 bedrooms , others have just 1 large, some have covered balconies, others have uncovered ones etc. The biggest problem is the new facilities team, as desks are often unattended and the fire alarms are hideously loud and false alarms are frequent, and compounded by the fact that the guard is often missing which means 2 minutes of a very loud false alarm. The previous team was slightly better but replaced as apaprently the new ones were much cheaper (the old ones claimed the new ones got 400 dhs), and if true, it is not surprising to have such service from such lowly paid workers

Something always bugs me regarding the drivers here. If you check social media, Facebook, EW, 99% of the posters strongly criticize dangerous driving, as in swerving, using cellphones, changing lanes without indicators, pushing into a queue, but anything from 20-40% of the road users at any one time drive recklessly and stupidly. And such driving is across all social classes and all types of cars, is it that people "pretend" to be good drivers on the net, or is it that bad drivers do not tend to post on the web ? And could anyone have an idea why some drivers get so "angry" when you use your horn after they swerve towards you? Twice in 3 days, a driver cuts into my lane without checking, and I had to brake to avoid a collision, yet when I sounded the horn for less than a second, they went ballistic with their hand gestures.

I went to a coffee/cake bakery and asked for an americano but with less water (i like a strong black coffee but not expresso) and no milk. I am served a milky cappuccino, I tell the waiter I asked for an americano, his reply was yes, I know but you are British and you like milky coffee! I had to explain that I am not British and even if i was, I want what I ordered. Never been back. Could you call these people, give them the opportunity to return your items, and let them know that if they don't within a certain timeframe you will be filing a police report (whether or not you actually do....)? Not a good idea. If they admit and want to come to return, I do not think it will be a comfortable or possibly even a safe meeting. Biggest disadvantage OP has is that they know her home's location.

It will by no means be cheaper than subletting. It is another reminder that to live [i'>legally[/i'> in Dubai, it costs. And, if it does not cost, you're living a life that could land you in trouble. Too bad the job market does not realize this fact and most smaller companies continue to offer salaries that do not allow their employees to rent proper places. edited by Arch on 03/06/2014

When people leave, they will be replaced by those that have more money. Employers will increase wages and rents will plateau, On what basis would you make this assumption? Economics - upward side of the cycle - do you think Dubai has peaked and is now on a downward turn? We do not know details for every single company but taking one particular employer, which is one of Dubai's largest and arguably its best brand, there has been no substantial pay increase for the vast majority of staff and conditions and terms have become tougher over last few years. This at a time when it is doing very well in terms of profits. If one of the best is not willing to increase compensation and allowances, what chances most other employers will raise wages to keep up with the property market ?

I think you are basing your opinion on your circumstances. There are thousands of people on the wait list to buy villas in the new Dubai Hills. There are also lots of people who don't need a mortgage to buy a house. You have a high end market and a low end market (apartments) the people in the middle don't tend to buy, they rent. m. There is no way apartments, most of which cost over 1m dhs can be considered a low end market, a most people buying them are pretty well off and upper middle class at least. The ones on the waitlist for Dubai villas are again high earners, and I doubt any of them will have household incomes under 40k

. Property seems expensive only when compared to post-2008 when it was significantly under-valued,. Most expat residents compare property prices to back home as that is where most of them will go to retire. Most American cities, and from what I understand most parts of the UK outside London, offer better value for money for residential property.

Islam is not as rigid a religion as some of us try to make it out to be, due to zeal or whatever reason. Yes, a 9 year old should not be munching on a sandwich before Iftar in public, but there is no reason why someone should try to have their kids aged 4 and 1 hurriedly take some water between the mall and the car instead of in the car, or in a quieter section of the mall. I had known situations where people have started shouting at a mother feeding her toddler some water in public, and that is nothing of what Islam is about edited by Arch on 20/05/2014
