hmm I thought I saw in Emax or jacky's last night that the IPad 2 was only 2399? Perhaps I had a baby brain moment and got the figures around the wrong way though.

Have arrived home after taking DS to Dr he just smacked his head when running away playing chasey with our maid and has a nice big bruise / egg on his head. So got back from there to have SaniServices here and also just after I walk in the door the maintenance company from last week that did the water heater - are here fixing the rotting wardobe (you should have seen under it (DH took the rotting cornus bit away yesterday and under the wardobe is just gross and stinks - I've taken photos)... and apparently they said they are here to fix the toilets too... we'll see about that because all I see in their hands is putty ... no toilet cisterns! The downstairs toilet, the poor guys from SaniServices just opened the door to it and you should see the bathroom, it is dripping wet with condensation. (makes me want to puke). With all the commotion one of the dogs got out and decided to go visiting our neighbours I've got him back now but between all the people coming and going I'm sure he'll manage to escape again, he is a cunning beagle. Simpleasabc / SamCT if you see a tan and white beagle in your yard - its Duke.

thx everyone. PN (and others) your experiences too all sound like nightmares. It saddens me that this happens here. How would they like it if their current place of living was like this (the LL)!? Bet they would fix it right away or if they too were renting for what ever reason then I bet they would be jumping up and down screaming for their LL to fix the problems. P*sses me right off that they can be like that. In Oz, we have an agent that looks after our place and basically if anything happens to it like the hot water tank going (especially in winter) then it would be replaced right away and I'd get an e-mail telling me it had to be done and it cost X amount (we have plumbers and electrical people on file for them to use or the agent advises us that this is who they use for all maintenance). So its delt with and thats it. The bathroom is now fixed with the water heater, all working well. They are coming back on Saturday to do the cisterns and the smelly toilet plus the rotting wardrobe. So far all I have been asked to pay for was the locksmith (although still believe I should have to pay for this because it was a fault with the villa prior to us moving in - balcony door wouldn't lock). DH will be home at least on saturday when they do the rest so he can argue the point then. Oh dear... seems I have a sick dog on my hands too now so I best go deal with that. Never ending!!!!

thx saharagypsyrose - I have done. Thankfully we aren't paying for the maintenance they are doing today, I believe the agent has stepped up and organised payment through the LL. Took my husband to e-mail them with the photos and a list of problems plus expressing our disappointment before they finally did anything though.

running update... So I'm sitting in the loft area listening to loads and loads and loads of water pouring out somewhere... I quickly run into the guest bedroom to find they have at least closed the door to the bathroom but it is seaping out from under the door and out to the wardrobes where there is the rotting wood, heading out to the bedroom and for our wooden bed. Ahhhhh. Towels, towels, towels! Quick!!! Hopefully they don't slip on them when they come out! LOL.

other option is to order one when you go home and only go back for 1 fitting 1 or so weeks before the wedding (depending on when you head back). I got mine in Oz and did this. I explained to the ladies that I don't live in Oz any more and that I will be back 2 weeks before the wedding. They were fantastic and booked me in 3 times (only ended up needing 2 fittings before the day) in the 2 weeks and blocked out time enough to do my dress for that reason. Having said that, I have seen some dresses here that now I almost wish I had waited and got from here because of the elegance of them is just stunning and so much cheaper to what I could afford in Oz. All the best!!

So today is progress! Woohooo! At least for the water heater tank anyway. They are replacing that right now. As for the smell that is like **** has been smeared all over our walls, this still remains. I think my pg nose is also growing more and more sensitive to it each day because between yesterday and today, I've nearly vomitted at the smell of it when I walked out our bedroom this morning and when I walked back in the house today after being being. They are busy with the water heater and replacing the "bathroom ceiling tiles" that were also damaged by the water. I'll ask when they come out what is happening with the cracked toilet cisterns and the awful stench (not from a toilet with a cracked cistern). You should see this bathroom (dwnstairs) you open the door and there is condensation everywhere - even with the exhasust fan on. The heat and smell coming up through the toilet bowl is soooooooooo steamy the whole bathroom is drenched. Blahhh.

For veggies we steamed them quite soft so they would basically fall apart in your hands. DS Loves the little carrots you can get at spinneys that are already packed and they are about the size of his fingers (well, a bit bigger) but they are the baby carrots. These have made fantastic finger food and they mush easily with their gums.

our agent said at least threaten the maintenance people with the action of police - mind you in the end the agent has been about as useless as the maintenance. And certainly call or e-mail a complaint to RERA and then tell them that you have sent an inquiry through for an official complaint. Call RERA and see where you get. They close at 2pm though Ramadan hours. Good luck!!

Are you calling and dealing with the issues or is your husband? if you read all my "Hating my villa" threads then the best advice I can give it get your husband onto it and get him to be very stern. Tell them you are calling the police and lodging a complaint with RERA. That may get their act into gear. I wish you all the best with getting things fixed. xox

AAAhhhh ha ha ha hah a ha ha ha ha ha ha.... Huge belly laugh! You lot crack me up! Well we have 1 set of guys here at the moment who are actually (I think) taking the water tank down! I was told that they were only here to quote. Eh? He is constantly ringing the guy from the agent though (the manager now, not the agent we were dealing with initially) - he did ask me for $ to replace the tank, I was like "Umm ring the agent, we ain't paying, its the LL needs to pay". So far they have replaced all the leaking "sprayers"... so maybe they have had the go-ahead from the agent to do it!?

ahhh I'm so happy to have this forum and you lot to help me see light of the situation and give me a few giggles. Just had the guy come... just 1 and he wanted to see what the problems were. He was the guy that spoke to my husband last night. So in he comes I show him everything and he takes no notes and says "I have to get approval from LL and quotes". So now I'm sending him the photos that I took of everything because I'll be a**ed if he remembers everything to tell the LL that needs fixing. He has now gone. Everything still stinks. Why have a F****** maintenance contract plus a management agent for your property if everything has to be run past the LL to be fixed anyway!? I can understand having to get quotes for water heater and toilet cisterns but basically the only thing I think the LL needs to be approving is the repair / removal of the wardrobe stuff that has rotted. Everything is basic / general upkeep / maintenance. TwoKids All I can say to them is hope you dont get stuck in the mess we did with having to move very quickly. Be sure that problems are going to be fixed before you move into the villa, refuse to give them anything more than the deposit (if they need this to secure the place) until you see maintenance at the house fixing all the problems! I'm not sure of what else, because some of these (like the toilet smell and a/c) didn't really happen until we moved in. As for ACs you could always request they be cleaned and be sure to see receipts that the work has been done prior to you moving in?

Will try txting again simpleasabc. Hope you feel better soon. As for maintenance... well 12.30-1pm has been and gone! Why am I not surprised that no one is here!?

I believe that there is an Obgyn on call for the time that someone else is away and or at night / weekends when others have days off. And who ever is in labour gets priority over any of the patients in the waiting room for check ups. I have Dr E but from the sounds of things all the Ob's at City seem very good. See if Sister Martha (Marty) is in the nursing station (if she is still here?), tell her your concerns and she'll help put you at ease. Wishing you all the best. xox

Been to Muscat and it was lovely however were staying with friends. Been to Dead Sea and OMG the gorgeous resort (can't think of name at mo) was just beautiful, so relaxing, tranquil, lots of wonderful spa treatments :) Depending on how long you going for, I'd probably do dead sea if more than 4 days - also can do some easy day trips from resorts there and they have a lot of things worth seeing. If 4 or less days, then Muscat.

For the sewage smell check the toilet vent ( it is a long pipe that goes from the bathroom drain to the top of the villa) in one of my friend's place a magnificent huge place on the montgomery golf they had a similar issue and the top of this pipe was facing the central ac inlet. They felt they were living in the sewers this sounds very similar - if we turn on the AC in one of the rooms where the duct seems to be over that bathroom the entire house stinks even more. I have also been advised it could be a pressure problem because of that toilet vent and apparently there isn't anything to be done about it??

Aussiepup, if things still aren't fixed properly by the time your guest is due, please give me a call and we'll see if we can help out somehow, since we're just down the road from you. Are you the one on the corner with new hanging baskets on the balcony? Thx Simpleasabc - I did text yesterday, did you get it? We are on the corner, but no hanging baskets. It has a big tree and dead grass out the front. Well no further news today, I decided to have a day off of phoning them and see if they respond to DH's e-mails. I'll try again tomorrow. Tonight DH and I are going to see a silly movie to take our minds off it. All day today however, we have sat in a stinky sewage smelling house. Uhh. Where do they get off being like this? Unfortunately the option for us to move again is like buckleys and none for at least 1 year. The contract is the standard contract and I believe we just have to give the regular notice ours I think for memory was 60 days. It was exactly the same as our old contract at the Zulal villa (which I am missing so much right now, even that had a stinky toilet that couldn't be fixed but it wasn't seeping out the vents into other parts of the house like this is). <sigh>

congrats ladies. I am currently due about 1st - 6th of April. Website has me at the 1st but Dr has me at the 6th of April, or maybe it was the other way around I can't remember my brain is really really really mush. I'm currently 7.5 weeks. DS arrived 2 weeks early so I actually posted on the March thread as there is the possibility this munchkin may come early too - but who knows. My pregnancy so far this time is completely different. The tiredness is a lot more, but that could also be because we've just moved house and I have a 1 yr old. I want to eat healthy foods (last time was pizza and beer -non alcoholic - he he he), mostly fruits and fresh salads. Craving cold meat like Turkey and Ham. Had 1 scan at 4.5 weeks to see that everything is where it should be (due to past history) and have another on the 29th of August. Looking forward to swapping pregnancy stories with you all. Congrats again. xox

he he he - Oh dear HAK... that sounds terrible the 3 cavities! I am currently wanting fresh salad with ham or turkey (cold) in a fresh bread sambo... I even want to grate carrot! I hate hate hate gratted carrot (but usually eat a whole one) and fruits and chocolate! Nutella or Snickers. I didn't want chocolate or anything sweet with DS at all. Hmmm could this be a girl? I've got steak and salad for dinner tonight. I'll speak to my Dr and see what she says next time I see her. Although with the first pg the 1st dr i said did say Listeria is big here in Dubai as people don't wash the salad (in restaurants) properly and she advised me if we eat out, eat veggies that have been freshly cooked.

ok so the latest is, the maintenance company, the man at the agent that we dealt with directly and his boss have all had an earful from me this afternoon. Unfortunately I was too late calling RERA - they close at 2pm for Ramadan hours. So I've e-mailed them instead. Will call them tomorrow morning. So had a company come out and clean the aircon for us, plus fix some of the wiring for the lights as the lounge room light keeps exploding (litterally) globes each time you turn the switch on. The aircon is fixed in my sons room but the smell is still throughout the house even after loads of detol has been used to clean it. I should have read your message before HAK because then I wouldn't have handed over a cheque for 2650 AED and got them to chase the agency for it - which I must add we are still waiting for 150AED to be reimbursed from the agent because we couldn't get the water turned on in our name for their was still a bill to be paid by the LL!!!! So we paid that. I am getting no where still even with telling them I have put in a complaint to RERA. The maintenance company again said "I will get my manager to call you back madam". Then the agent we dealt with said "they have been calling you" NO THEY HAVE NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I repeated this 4 times after he continued to tell me they have been calling me! Ummmm I have full cover reception here and my mobile hasn't rung once with a number I haven't answered or already known!!!! So he then gives me his managers name and number. I've called him and ranted on the phone telling him this house stinks and surely isn't safe to have a 1 yr old let alone anyone else living in it when the aircon smells of mould as much as it does, he asked me twice my address so I told him. 7 mins later he rings me back asking my address again!!!! For the love of god!!!!!! I so hope they get a fire cracker up their behinds from RERA coz I'm soooooo not stopping until we get our $ back that we've already forked out to have things fixed as well as having the hot water heater replaced etc etc. If you could see my ears right now steam is coming from them!

thank you so much everyone. I'll probably text you guys soon that left me a #. I gave both the maintenance company and the agent notice that if no-one had shown from the maintenance company by today then I'd be getting someone else out to fix it and then sending the agent the bill. We don't have direct contact with the LL, she has set up a specific management agent to look after the property for us and as part of the management agent looking after it they have a maintenance contract in place. I'm just about to ring both the maintenance company and the agent and tell them I have reported the property to RERA. Unfortunately we had only 1 week to move (long story) so we had to put $ down on this place otherwise we could have missed out. I know there were a number of people looking at it the week we did as just as we pulled up to view it for the 2nd time, there were cars pulling out the driveway and as we left someone else also pulled in. So we figured if we wanted it we had to put the $ down. The agent basically swore black and blue to me that he thought the maintenance had been to clean it and fix some of the problems, but not all - he said they need to come back to fix some of the things (cupboards) but the water heater had been fixed and the house was cleaned for us to move in. Nope... not so! I have a 1 yr old son and currently pg with the next (in 1st trimester so I am very tired and emotional) also have guests arriving in a weeks time - sooooooooooooooooo not happy. The hormones are currently raging and they (agent and maintenance) are about to bare the brunt of it!!!! :)

Hi nimonemo Most would probably just go and have the blood test to confirm the pregnancy and then wait until 10-12 weeks before seeing and obgyn. I usually have early scans due to previous ectopic and misscarriage so my Dr likes to make sure things are where they should be at 5-6 weeks but then my next appointment isn't until 10-12 mark. OMG I am soooooo tired still. Wasn't like this at all with DS and I'm not feeling nausea but I think with the fatigue I just feel blahh. I also am liking fresh fresh fruit - especially peaches and salad. Also want Turkey and Ham but have avoided it. Has anyone else had cold meats at all?

it was christmas time when we broke the news and we sent them (my mum, in-laws, sister in laws and bro in laws - coz they are close family and spent xmas together) presents with baby stuff. Actually i got my best friend to go and buy the presents and wrap them. Then put someone's name on each present and then in the main card told them when we were due. Only my MIL forgot about the card sitting on top of her present and they all started opening their presents and the in-laws thought "hmm I think Em gave us the wrong presents". Then about half hour later MIL remembered the card and opened it and went "derrrr they are having a baby!!!" too funny. Wish we could have been there. This time around we are actually going to be in Oz when I reach 12 weeks and I have a scan just before we leave to make sure all is ok. It is my mums 70th birthday whilst we are there and my FIL 60th birthday soon so we are getting scan pictures and giving them their birthday cards together at a dinner we have planned the night after we arrive. Thats how we will find out. How about getting something delivered to them that is babyish or get a friend to take a bottle around to them and say "you'll be needing this soon grandma / grandpa!" then have a skype or phone call with them.

I think everyone is different Pingu... a friend back in Oz is pg with twins and she has had the cruisiest pg ever!! Lucky girl! I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo tired! Am actually delirious most of the time. Have to keep having 20 min power naps which keeps me going for about 2 hrs and then I go down hill again. Also not eating all that much probably doesn't help either. Am forcing myself to basically eat what I am eating. Not sick at all, just cronically tired. Wasn't like this at all with DS. Eli1979 I know! I was so excited when I found out and I came on here and read your post but I didn't want to say anything until I had had my scan, then I came back and saw your :( news and my heart broke for you hun. :( We could have been neighbours in the hospital again :(

Hi All, I understand from most reviews that Dr. Elsa has performed more C-section births than natural births. Or am I wrong ??? Because I really want a natural birth ... I already feel scared of C-section ! She is very pro natural birth. For memory she has one of the lowest % rates of c-sections for an Obst across the UAE well... thats what I heard anyway :) I have a friend wanting to have elective c-section and Dr Elsa is trying to convince her other wise. She will only give a c-section if utter emergency.

Love, love, love Dr Elsa! Sorry to hear some of you are having trouble getting appts with her. How easy/hard is it to get an appt with her for a second pregnancy? By this I mean, if she delivered your first baby, do you get priority to get an appt with her for your second pregnancy? Reason I ask is because in Australia, with some Ob/Gyn's, you do. Thanks! Yes if you are already a patient of hers you can let reception know and they will try booking you in earlier :) 2nd what Shelly says about Dr Elsa. Loved her for the birth of my first son and i'm back with her this time around.

I had a scan early at 5w and a few days as I've had an ectopic and misscarriage before DS1. Everything is where it is meant to be and confirmed only 1 (thank goodness because the night before I had a dream the Doc told me there were 4)... we've just had to move house because of this and found that prices where we were living have gone haywire - We were in the Lakes and paying 175... whilst I was continuing to find something in there the same size as what we were in they wanted 190-200!!!! What the!?!?!?! Needless to say we have now moved and got the house size we like (in Meadows 9), but the quality of the house is not as good and still had to pay 190 :( although from what I have seen getting anything in Meadows for less than 200 is pretty good and our dogs now love love love the size of the back yard, they have been out there running back and forth for ages tonight chasing each other. :)

Every summer we have had this issue BMaP. The pipes on the roof or the tank (if exposed outside) get so hot that it heats the water and yes most times it can be hotter than the hot water tap. We have started giving DS (1yr) showers because at least the water is falling from high up so when it gets to his level when sitting in the bath it isn't so hot. We put the plug in so the bath catches the water but it seems to be cooler than just running directly from the bath tap.

just came to find out that the LL may just be showing new tenants through so he can get a higher price instead of selling it as he has told us. Just had his "broker" come through with 2 sets of people looking at the house. He told us it was people interested in buying. But one of the men that came in today was asking me strange questions like if there was a maintenance contract and are we leaving the country is that why we are moving out? I said no, the landlord told us because you guys are interested in buying it and wanted us out by the 30th August. He turned to the Broker and said "is this for sale too?". we have only been here 1 year, he hasn't given us the proper notice period. He can't now lease it out at the higher price can he? After we were the ones to say 2 weeks ago we'd like to re-sign and brought it to his attention that he couldn't increase the price until next year with us in it. So he's given us notice saying he had prospective buyer. The way he was talking in his email sounded as if he had the buyer lined up already. Now I've let 3 different sets of people come through the house. 2 of them have come twice! Can you see the steam coming off my ears right now!?!?!

Know what you mean, AussiePup. See if you can find some authoritative research, one way or another, on the net, perhaps, before you make a decision? I think there is a certain distance from pylons which may be considered safe, but I can't find reference to it at the moment. 250 metres rings a bell, but I could be completely wrong. DH did some last night he was on the net for about 5 hrs searching. He found simialr distances to what you mention. Some say 200meters, it use to be only 100 but they thought that wasn't far enough and now are saying 200. Some other research says 200-600. I'm assuming in the house though you are protected, it would just really be out and about walking and spending a lot of time out there walking?

I'm skeptical too... just worried about future pregancies and living close to the pylons and for my 1 year old son now?

last year I noticed in the food court downstairs at the entry had big black curtains (MOE) with a sign saying "food court open"... Dubai mall had something similar but red curtain - this year neither have them up??? You can feed the LO's in there - they are exempt from Ramadan anyway aren't they? I guess it is more of a curtousey thing though.
