hmm this is interesting, because we've been told it is what is in the contract we have signed between us and the landlord. Ours is 2 months notice even though the term of our contract is meant to renew on the 14th of August, the landlord gave us 1 months notice as he intends to sell. I asked RERA and they said it would be what ever is in your contract... so DH looked it up and our contract is 2 months. But the LL has only given us 1 months notice. Struggling to find a place to live within our requirements ... its exhausting.

Hi All Does anyone know anything about buying property internationally. We are Ozzie's wanting to buy somewhere in Europe most likely in about 6 months time. We want to buy somewhere that would be a holiday home / could be rented out for holidays when we aren't using it so tourist location is key. We also don't want to have to pay tax in the country if owning a property. Anyone have any ideas / suggestions?

It is the same size as the property I looked at a couple of days ago, not backing onto the lake, but the carpark instead. Unfortunately the villa is 1 space too short either an open loft area or bedroom. And even with that we'd still need to sell off some stuff to fit (which doesn't bother us, we need to do this anyway)... <sigh> it is exhausting!

I've just had a look on their website, if it is one they have registered it is 200K with Lake View. That is one of the other criteria we can't have is lake view. I have a beagle who can jump a 6 foot fence so I'm sure I'd find him swimming in the lake many times with such a small fence on the lake views. he he he.

I just called our landlords and they have a Forat coming up at the end of August, it will be let out through Hamptons when the time comes. Sorry but no idea of the price! thx CP. End of August would be fine. Ideally we would like to move on the 14th but we have until the 30th at the latest. Do you think I'd be able to call Hamptons about it now?

if you are having trouble getting in to see your Dr you must tell the clerk you are a patient of the Dr's already. Then if you do not have any luck, speak with the nurse for your Dr or if you have the Dr's mobile / email - certainly let them know you can't get in. They did this with Dr Elsa patients... now when I say I am a patient of her's already they seem to find me a much sooner appointment.

I have had some Pingu. A lot during week 4 to 5 and now just occasionally and it's different to the cramps i felt a few weeks ago. One morning last week I had a very dull ache in my lower tummy on both sides n all around, and it made me feel really yuck. A few twinges and pulls otherwise. Sometimes when I cough i get a sharp pain. Dr palpated my tummy a few days ago and i was quite sensitive on one side. Think it is all the vomiting I have been doing, caused a strain- really struggling with the morning sickness but that's another story. It got better for a few days and I was so happy that it might be easing but it seems to have come back again. :( Congratulations to you all and very sorry to hear about your loss Eli1979 Sparkly I just wanted to comment (but don't want to alarm you in anyway) I had the sharp pain too on one side every now and then and when the Dr would press. Turned out I had a cist the size of a tennis ball. It was ok and I had my baby boy 8 mths later with the cist going away on its own. Maybe get them to check for one when you have your scan. All the very best.

DH's boss has kindly offered for him to expense an evening meal for the both of us. Where can he take me? We don't want something toooo ridiculously expensive (just not us) / ritzy. As an example of what we are looking for would be Biche in Hilton in JBR. We did that for our anniversary and that was nice - price was good for the occassion. Any other suggestions of some where like that?

Congrats on your pregnancy. I had my baby at City with Dr Elsa. She is fantastic and my birth was great, midwives were lovely. My baby was taken to NICU but that was because I detected he wasn't breathing properly after they did the APGAR test. He sounded like he had a conjested nose and I asked if they could clear it, they took him off me to check and before I knew it he was in NICU because of fluid on his lungs. The staff were professional throughout, and the NICU staff were also lovely. My only gripe was for about 2-3 hrs after that initial hold I wasn't able to see my little boy. They were taking X-Rays of his chest as well as on a couple of other babies in the NICU so no one was allowed in there other than medical staff. it took a while to find out what was going on with him but other than that it was all very professional and the staff were all so caring. I have had 6 other friends give birth at City hospital - their babies ranging from birth at 36 weeks to 41 weeks term and none of their babies were put into NICU after birth - all very healthy.

I lost loads too and was freaking out that I'd end up with bald patches but as kiwispiers mentions I don't think you lose much at all, if any through the pregnancy (mine got stupidly thick) I think it lasted about 2 months for me.

I have bought my tops (rash vest tops for sun protection) in Pumpkin Patch at the outlet mall for about 40 AED each. I then only place DS in a swim nappy and the top. When we go at 5.30-6pm I just lather him in sunscreen and don't even worry about the top. A friend of mine does exactly the same for her daughter.

Be very aware in Meadows 9 that there are always more Villas for rent available there due to owners getting tenants in and then suddenly saying before 12 month lease is up ( even after only a few months of signing) that they are wanting to sell it. Have had a COUPLE of friends who this happened to. They loved the villa they moved to, were very happy but a few months in the owner said this and they had to move at the end of the years lease and the owner would not even let them extend for 3 or 6 months. Sorry to put a dampner on it, you may have a great landlord but just be wary. Ahhh this is rather interesting to read. We are currently in a bit of a pickle too as we are just about to extend for a year (this will be our 2nd year of the agreement) and the landlord has decided to sell... we were then told on Thursday by the broker and the person she showed through (who by the way came in unannounced and we were on holiday - our maid opened the door, the broker said she was our landlords wife!!!) told our maid we would have to move out if the sale went through because the lady who wanted to buy it (she accompanied the broker) wants to move in. So yesterday and today I have stressfully tried to find places to live (same bl**min) thing I went through last year!!! We like our villa we are in despite some issues with plumbing we are putting up with as the landlord gets fixed... but if you are saying we renew for this next year now and agree to it then if he does sell the new owner cannot force us out!? Not even with 1-3 months notice?? (Sorry to hijack the thread scschroder - If I do have to look for a new villa then we will be in the same boat as you are... we ideally want to stay in the Lakes though).

Yeah I guess so, she did say last appointment we didn't have the time to do. I am naturally dark blonde and my hair does have some copper tinges. I am just so over the blonde growing out and having the roots showing. It is very unattractive :( Unfortunately my next appointment wont be until early September due to holidays between us both. There was a hairdresser a friend recommended in JBR - Wuan? or something like that... anyone know the spelling? Apparently they have a special on at the moment for colour, cut, blow dry, pedicure, manicure for 500AED.

1 boy and no sickness, very cruisey pregnancy I think. Just if I got hungry then I felt a little sick but if I ate right away it went away. Only think I really couldn't stand was chopping up meat. That made me want to puke :) Also craved savoury foods right from the start - no sweets until the last few weeks and then I haven't stopped eating sweets since! (chocolate mostly) lmao. Hmmm Novice, are you trying to tell us something???

Congratulations lec299 that is wonderful news. I used Dr Elsa in City hospital - loved having her and the hospital. Great experience even with DS having to spend 5 days in NICU. Some of my friends up this end of town (springs, lakes) use a Dr over in the marina or JBR for general appointments and then see Dr Elsa for the major ones only. I will get the name of the Dr for you and post again.

I'm still waiting... DS 1 yr 6 days old. Our nights are hit and miss... sometimes he wakes 1-3 times a night (and that is a good night). I still dream feed him though because otherwise he does wake up wanting food between 1-3am - have tried offering water but nope... and he eats substantially through the day. The last week has been better though with only 2 nights of wake ups. So generally counting from DF time, 10pm he sleeps til 6am.

I share your frustrations, having to send money home every month! Australia Post prices are so reasonable usually - either the books are being couriered, the uni is making money or the books are really heavy! I think that given its the same price for 1 or all books to be sent they must be making quite a bit of some people i would think... I guess with 4-5 books $120 is alright, but I may as well get all of them through there instead of doing 1 at uni and the rest on amazon as they are still charging $120 for all of them.

Thx Ladies... yeah I have checked Amazon, I can get 2 of the 4 books on there but 1 specific one (the heavy one) is a combined pack that I think my university has put together. So I guess I will just purchase and ship from there. I took the other books off my shopping list to see what the postage would be for just 1 book and it is the same, so may as well just get all of them and ship them at the same time together. I was just shocked at the price for postages 1) because it is almost more than the cost of the books and 2) the Aussie exchange rate at the mo is ridiculous (good for anyone travelling on holidays this way, not so nice to be sending money home to cover mortgage and uni fees etc).

Hi kcinthecity I am sorry to hear you are still having sleep problems with your LO. DS is now 1 and has never been the best sleeper and still wakes between 1-2 times a night probably 3-4 times a week. The waking is usually at 8.30-9.30pm and 12.30-1.30am. I find that DS suffers from wind quite a bit so if he doesn't get a good burp up before I put him to sleep at 7.30 then he wakes the first time... (or if he is over tired). Then we dream feed at 10-11pm and then again the same thing happens - people (including cecile) have said to leave DS in his cot when we give him this DF (as he is bottle fed), my issue is if I do this a) he doesn't get a burp up and b) he always leaks through his nappy by 4am (so at dreamfeed I always have to change his nappy). The last time I went to see cecile I told her that I could not leave DS unattended for 45 mins of him crying without me going in. For me, I felt the 45 mins was too long. She suggested the 20/5/20 approach, leave him to cry for 20 mins go in for 5 mins patt on bottom etc (don't pick up), then leave after the 5 mins if he cries then leave him for 20 mins. We have found this to work on most occasions by the 2nd 20 mins. There has only been 2 nights in the past 3 months were he has kept going for a 2nd round of 20/5/20... but usually this has meant he wasn't feeling well and the only thing that seemed to settle him was some panadol. Usually if he wakes up now, he cries for about 7-15 mins of the very first 20 mins and ends up back asleep by himself. Generally I can tell by his cry when there is something wrong or if he is just wanting our attention. I find this makes it easier for me to leave him when I know he is just "putting it on" so to speak. If the 45 mins is too long for you then adjust it to 20 or 30 mins. I think too less than 20 mins though is long enough. I hope you can find something that works for you and you get some well deserved sleep soon!

Hi Melinda, I think people would be afraid to answer this for you in case you go ahead and do the intense exercise and then things dont work out etc. My suggestion would be if you are unsure (and hence asking for others opinions) and a bit worried, then perhaps slow it down a bit this week. I am a exercise nut myself but if I was unsure about anything like this then I'd probably back off for a bit. Trust your gut instinct. All the best!

Hi DC, firstly ask to see the agent's RERA brokers card. He/she is definitely scamming you and has broken article 4 of the Code of Ethics. Not that that makes a blind bit of difference to some agents but you can report him/her to RERA for that misdemeanor alone. The standard charge for rentals is 5% of the annual rent and is usually paid by the tenant. Anything else has, ie further commission, has to be disclosed to both parties and if they are both in agreement then it's ok. Blatant lying and deception is not acceptable. I would go directly to the agency and ask them to explain themselves and I would, without a doubt, report them to RERA. Did the agent ask you to give her/him the 5000 in cash or cheque and if the latter who was it to be made payable to? DC says thanks for the info Kate One - tis brilliant.

brilliant kiwi! That is awesome. I had loads of trouble with b'feeding and got myself into a right pickle at some points ... I felt so guilty that a) my milk was watery and no fatty goodness for DS so he was always hungry and crying (didn't know this was the problem until 12 weeks) b) all my friends were b'feeding successfully and I seemed to be the only one at the time with problems c) i had thrush for almost 14 weeks - hurt more than labour! The big one though was the guilt and you know what, now I wouldn't bat an eye-lid at feeling guilty. As long as that baby is healthy and thriving then no matter what you need to do to get him/her there is what you do... I ate loads and loads of peanuts which was the only thing that increased the fatty goodness in the milk and then when I got so sick of even thinking of eating another peanut I didn't have much other option than to top-up with formula. Then wah-la, a full baby, a baby putting on weight (whom btw was very skinny at our 2-4 week check ups at the Dr who said he likes his babies slender, his weight was fine... he had gone from 50th percentile on charts to 5% - how could that be fine I thought!?) and then finally the nail on the head was I finally had a baby who was sleeping and was now happy because of sleep and fully tummy. Continued to b'feed until 5 months with top ups of formula before going across to full time formula as supply did run low. Next time I will certainly give b'feeding a chance but if in anyway things mirror what I went through with DS, honestly, I'd prefer happy baby and happy mummy so there is no way I'll be feeling guilty about giving the wee one a bottle! Big hugs to you meals - I hope things do get better for you and your LO, which ever way feeding goes. Just as long as you and the LO are happy. xox

our last few grocery bills have been up around 500-700aed and I too on the 2nd and 3rd shops checked the bill in case things were doubled. Admittedly I had baby items (nappies, formula - all rather bulky and add up quickly on the bill), but seriously the cost of fruit and veg and meat here has just gone nuts. I think on most occasions I walked out with 4 grocery bags. I really need to do something about the amount we are spending too. I remember just over a year ago shopping at Mecarto Spinney's and being able to get beautiful cuts of fresh tuna or salmon for what I thought was a very reasonable price (comparing to Oz where it would have been doubled) and now up at town centre (since we've moved) I am paying double what I paid a year ago, for the same size piece of fish! We love lamb but I just struggle to purchase a leg here when having to hand over 60+ aed when I could get the same size back in Oz for $12 (40 aed). I would certainly be interested in doing the fresh fruit and veg markets with a friend or two...thats a really great idea. Where is Le Marche? I have not heard of it before.

Hi ummissa your LO may be ok with the feeding again in a couple of days after the trauma of the teeth cutting settles down a bit. My DS and a few friends kids seem to go off their food when they are cutting teeth - happy to accept milk but nothing really they have to chew. Things we found great for DS were making some puree pear / apple / banana and freezing them in ice-cube trays. When frozen take 1 out and put it in one of those mesh eater things so that she can munch on it herself... eventually she will get most of it through the pores of the mesh so she is at least getting some food into her and then the coldness from it being frozen will help her gums. You may need to shave a bit off the cube before shoving it into those mesh things but ultimately they are a great treat for a LO starting out on solids and teething. You could pretty much put anything in the ice-cube to freeze - even the cereal and she will pretty much be able to get most of it out without having lumps to choke on. Hope her eating gets better for you soon. xox

Morning all Just quick question I just downloaded the 30 day shred last night. Just quickly went through the levels and am thinking no way am I ever going to get to level 2 LOL. So how long after did you ladies move onto level 2 and so on. I think Ill be sticking to Level 1 for a good 3-6 months and not even that maybe a yr! :\: Thanks.. basically went up a level after 10 days. I haven't gotten to level 3 yet given I was injured for a bit and then got so bored of training inside i've gone back to a personal trainer and now interchange between levels 1-2. Just be careful ladies mostly with levels 2 & 3 though especially after having had a baby. Make sure your stomach muscles have come back together otherwise you may need to moderate some of the sit up exercises to lower impact. As well as making sure you really suck that belly in tight on planks and bridges etc to get good core strength.

well ladies I hate to say it but I got SOOOOOOO bored of being inside training with just Jillian on the TV... I needed more!!!! so... I said "sod it" to the cost and have gone back to a personal trainer 1:1 once a week, plus 2 small group classes twice a week and walking / jogging around the block each morning plus a bit of skipping... on Thursday, Friday Saturday I don't have any training so on those days I have a date with the DVD and Jillian. I drop DS at a friends place for a play date whilst I go to training and it works out brilliantly (and yes I do return the favour of sitting her DS at other times) he he he. So far in 1.5weeks I've lost 2.5kgs... I think my body really needed "more", mentally and physically plus I really needed more focus on regaining my core strength which is what my 1:1 sessions are doing. Feelin good!! :D

My Dr and the midwives at City were fantastic and NICU staff were also great. Only issue I had was lactation... I had to use n*pple shields for feeding and each mw gave me a different direction to use them as I hadn't yet seen the lactation consultant. Re paper work, if you have appointments at City between now and birth time, ask them for the paper work that you need to fill out on admission or ask them what info they need and take it with you in a pack and hand it all over then DH or you wont have to be bombarded with a heap of paper work. I did my AN classes there and we were giving all the info about what to have ready on arrival to make the paper work process quick. I thought all the mw's I had look after me and DS were lovely. Dr Elsa is fantastic (if you have her - otherwise I hear that many of the other obsts at city are very good too).
