yep it will fit yours probably better than it fits ours. It doesn't aid much of a protector though, DS is now pulling it down so he can play peek-a-boo over it and found Dodger his rabbit comforter had taken a dive to the floor this morning! :) I'll bring mine around later so you can see what it looks like on your bed.

Hi vixter, I have some friends who adopted a few years ago (probably not going to help with times now) but they initially kept getting blocked and blocked and blocked and lost loads of money through various different organisations trying to adopt. They then found a great team here that can help with numerous difficulties. I will send an e-mail to my friend and see if they can pass on the details of who helped them here.

hi JS I see a chiropractor regulalry and in Oz I had the best guy who is also studying to be a paed. He advised that a baby carrier (sling type) was best whilst baby could not support it self. Until it can support itself sitting then the Baby Bjorn or the Ergo should not be used as there is great pressure put on the spine (as mentioned below). We purchased the new Baby Bjorn Comfort Carrier which is somewhat thicker than the BB Synergy or regular BB. It is too thick (i think) for the weather here in summer) but suitable as a carrier when they reach about 5 mths 9-12kgs. It has a waist band support so the weight of the baby is not just being carried through your shoulderblades, it is also carried via your waist (more even distribution). Also, it has 2 positions, the regular legs dangling down - baby straight position or wider sit position similar to the Ergo. I bought mine off e-bay and got a great deal on a red one - it was about half the price of the black. so this may be something to think about for later down the track but certainly for a NB go a sling. Hope you find what you are looking for!

DS was in NICU for 1 week and we had to pay it on our discharge from hospital, however we were reimbursed all of his NICU care costs once his insurance was sorted out. For 5 days, including his antibiotics etc we were up at around 20,000 dirhams for memory. Dr Elsa, love her! she is brilliant and agree with Meals that even if she is running over time for any what reason she will always make you feel like you are her only patient for that day, no rushing happy to talk about anything you have on your mind. Awesome obst. Longest I have waited was 1.5hrs due to an emergency c-section earlier in the day. I didn't mind the wait, then I didn't have any other children to race home to or pick up from school runs etc (which I know some friends have experienced and were a bit pressed for time).

awww wonderful news CheekyG! Congratulations!!! Welcome to the world little man! xox The toilet was my best friend too for about 1 hr before DH came in and looked horrifed that it was all starting to happen (although no laptop on lap! lol). I told him it was alright, take a shower and then we can go... he reluctantly followed my instruction until I blurted out "I think my waters just broke" whilst he was enjoying his hot shower. He raced out and then tried racing me out the house, only to have me take my sweet time feeding the dogs, getting them water etc, feeling totally at ease with it all. He then slipped (thankfully caught himself and everything but the kitchen sink I was taking to the hospital with me that he was carrying) but hurt his ankle and back when he rushed out the front door to get me in the car. he he he. I can't help giggling at it even now 7 months later. Too funny. ahh the memories! ;)

out of here was no problem at all. Coming back from the UK I had to open a carton of formula, but I was only carrying 3 on the plane with me as I had all bottles filled with water ready for powder (also separated into feed qtys). From hearing of friends experiences coming out of the UK I made sure I timed it as best I could that when I went through the custom gates and was asked to open the carton of pre-made formula, it was pretty much DS feed time about half hour later, so I got to use it then anyway. Definately take change of clothes for you and her. Also take a dummy / pacifier in case she finishes the bottle before you get to land, sometimes you can get stuck up in the air for an extra 10 / 15 mins circling (which happened to us) then the rest of the decent there is nothing for the LO to suck on to help with the ear pops. Have the pacifer ready (even if bubs doesn't take one normally), they seem to know they need to suck so will generally take it (from personal experience and a few friends from Oz have told me as well). Safe travels.

hi meals, I never got a painful letdown or leakage, but did have thrush so was changing breastpad every feed. I'm relatively large in the bust area - without them being full of milk!!, so I noticed any b'pad that was too thick. First years (??) were my favourite only 20 or so in a pack though and can't remember how much they were but I found them to be the very best comfort wise and also how my b**bs looked through clothing, you couldn't really see these pads. Next, and the one that I ended up using 90% of the time, were from mothercare, you can get a huge pack for about 40 dirhams. I can't remember how many were in there but it was very good value.

I'd say drive round here too but spots still coming up on DS... so maybe next week you can give a drive to mine given it is about ohh 1km further than DCs! :D get you out there slowly! ;) Then I suggest a quick trip to Ibn Bat, you come straight over the fly over, only 2 exits on SZR going opposite way to most of the traffic and it is easy peasy... coming home however just watch the entry back to SZR, road works. You'll be alright hun. If she cries sing to her (I've had to sing the same song over and over and over again for DS for a 20 min car ride... try singing anything else and he'd start up a fuss again), pull over in a safe place if you need to but most of all dont stress (easier said than done). I kept telling myself, "your ok to cry for 5 mins, we are nearly there". I was more worried if he suddenly stopped crying!

I had it from birth of DS to week 8 and then got it back at about week 12-14. Blah! We used Daktarin and Canestin for his mouth / my n*pples. The Canestin had to be washed off before every feed though and trying to remember that whilst sleep deprived as well as cringing at the fact you have to feed because it hurts... euhh! it was ridiculous. We also washed everything with vinegar - I would put 1 cap full of washing powder / liquid and then 1-2 caps of vinegar plus fabric softner (to hopefully take a bit of the vinegar smell away). I changed b'pads each feed as well, a fresh one would be put on as soon as DS' mouth had touched the b**b. I also had a stack of cheap aweful nursing bras that I bought from Max (15 dirhams or something) to keep interchanging fequently (think I had 6 all up to get me through the week and washing days). I was also given antibiotics, I cannot remember the name I'm afraid, but they were very expensive. A course for 14 days was 600 dirhams or there abouts. The thing that helped me pain wise was neurofen, I know that some iboprofen would go through to DS but was advised by Dr's it wasn't much and if he had it in his mouth, it could very well be itchy, the Ibo would provide me pain relief and DS some relief too so I would take 2 every 4-6 hrs or when things were getting better but 1 side was still quite sore, when I knew I would be feeding from that side I would take the tablets about half hour before feeding. In the end I managed to keep going with b'feeding up until he was 5 months old, but let me tell you if someone had said to me that bottle feeding was OK when I was at my weakest low point at the 8 weeks or so, then I would have stopped right away. I kept going out of guilt more than anything. Wrong to have done I know, but once we finally got over the thrush then feeding became nice and I am happy I kept going. But I still remember the pain as it is like drawing nails on a chalk board for me when I think about it. I hope you get relief soon!! xox

I was just thinking of you this afternoon Novice and was going to set up a thread asking how you were getting on! Mental telepathy! ;) Ohhhh do I hear you re the exhaustion. I am stumpt at how mothers of 2 or more do it, or single parent families. DH happened to mention say to me the other day "well you should get uni out the way because no doubt next year you will be pregnant again at some part" I nearly gagged and fainted. I think mothers of more than 1 and single parent families deserve gold medals! DS was a terrible sleeper up until 4 months and then got progressively better. But even with sleeping through after dream feed from 10-5+am in the morning I end up wrecked at the end of the day so you are not alone. I have to plan car trips (as mentioned in a previous thread) because he hates the car, so my appointments are always scheduled around this and bottle time so that I can give him a bottle when I'm in the appointment or need to zipp around the shops quickly without him wanting to be picked up and carried around. Having to constantly think about someone else is physically and mentally exhausting. Thankfully I have made a couple of awesome friends here who when I'm feeling like I cant get out of bed to do it another day, they are the ones who come to the rescue, even if it is just some one to talk to and vent about how hard the day has been for me personally. I know many other mothers have it much harder than I do, but having a good friend who doesn't judge if my day has really been the hardest etc has been a bit of a saviour. I know you have moved, but have you had any opportunity to make a couple of good friends like that? Exercise is another saviour of mine which I really haven't had any chance to do unless it is a walk with DS and the 2 dogs (take the 2 dogs because it keeps DS amused watching them rip my arm out of its socket) so not exercising hard (ie. run, gym class, boxing) pays it toll for me and I get depressed. I do like getting out for a walk though even if I have the whole crew in toe, pram going one way, dogs the other - does help me feel a smidgen better... don't know how it will change with summer coming though :( at the end of the day, I love DS with all my mite and find myself giving him such big cuddles at night time for initial bed time and then after dream feed. We sit in the rocking chair, him tired and me exhausted and I just hold him and almost every single night I get all teary because I know whilst he keeps me on the go (and probably will for some time yet) The time is actually going really fast and he wont be this little for long - I certainly wont be getting that quiet cuddles with him for much longer. I think that is the most special moment I have with him that gives me the energy to do it again tomorrow. I don't know that this has been any good advice to help novice, but I do wish you some respite soon and hope that DS settles a bit so you can breath and have some time for you (and you with DH). Sending big hugs your way. xox oh and to hopefully to give you a bit of a giggle, with my blonde baby brain, we went to Dubai Mall yesterday for a bit of an outing, planning to have a few hours there and have lunch and shop... no sooner did we get there we had to come home again ... I had forgotten DS's bottles and food! I certainly wont be winning mum (or wife) of the year award thats for sure! ;) Ops!

we have the Ingelsina Zippy Free. the frame is lightweight but very sturdy. 9kgs I think, but when you ad the seat component for the pram (which can face both ways and lays flat + 3 other positions also) brings it up to 12kg. I think it is a great pram and we walk with it around the pavers in the lakes and springs etc and have no problem. Didn't have to buy the carry cot part because it lays flat. Only issue I have with it now is DS is 9kgs and a tad chubby, I think he finds it uncomfortable to sleep in because it is rather narrow, but will certainly fit better when he lengthens out a bit after a growth spurt :D It folds umbrella fold and don't have to remove the pram seat to fold. Car seat can be attached also. Has reasonable storage basket and small drink holder that fits Masafi or Arwa 500ml bottles.

Didnt make it to my due date, but the day I went into labour at 38 weeks I was at the bumps and babes coffee morning at dubai mall... I then wandered around dubai mall with a friend feeling my tummy get tighter and tighter but thought they were braxton hicks... went to my Drs appointment that afternoon and she gave me a sweep but told me at that point I was in labour, I was dilating and having a contraction whilst she did the sweep... I was like "oh!?" lol... went to dinner with DH that night, had an early night into bed and was in hospital by 3am the next morning. :D

4.5 mths for us starting on cereal and purée apple / pear, sweat potatoe and carrot mixes. DS is a very hungry boy and he loves his food. Got the chubby legs to prove it too ;) There are many signs to look out for to tell when your LO is ready, although even with those signs consult your Dr as there still may be some digestive issues (we found with DS, all the signs were there but when we fed him at night it gave him a big tummy ache so we moved to it to breakfast instead and did it every 2nd day until a week later, then every day then eventually at about 5 mths 1 week it was breakfast and lunch and then at nearly 6 months 3 meals a day). Also, they grow up so quickly I feel it was only yesterday that we had DS and now he is nearing 7 mths old and I can't believe how grown up he is... enjoy the LO on milk until you really can't any more :) eta: and by that I mean when they want way more than milk :D edited by AussiePup on 25/01/2011

Just adding to DC's initial post... I was told by paed that yoghurt is not to be given to babies under 12 months... so both DC and I have been using the "baby" yoghurt that specifically says it suitable from weaning. I think the difference is because it is made with milk powder as apposed to pasturised runny milk (if that makes sense)... so until 12 mths I didn't think we could use the normal adult full fat youghurt? You can use the normal full fat yoghurt from 6+ months. You can also use cow milk in cereals & cooking with no problems. I introduced yoghurt at 6.5 months when we started weaning with no problems. DS is suffering from reflux & it was great for settling his tummy & eleminate extra gases esp before bedtime. Now at 14 months, he dropped his bedtime milk feed & he eats a small pot of Marai yoghurt instead. sweet... I wont be buying those little teeny pots that are like 26 dirham for 6 anymore (squirms after buying 2 lots today). DOH. I have plain yoghurt every day for my breakfast anyway so that will work well :D

All M&P stores are on sale now. I love the one at Dubai Mall as it have lots of selections. For last year colection, there are lots of stuff at the outlet mall & the prices are reasonable each time I have been out to the outlet mall things have been more expensive than the actual shop! For example, I got a sleepsuit for DS for 174 dirhams at Dubai Mall shop and then saw them at the outlet mall the exact one so thought I'd go get another because it would be cheaper... 250 dirhams (down from 299) What the? I must go at the wrong times! Never get a bargain. DOH.

Hi scratch you may have gone already but we really loved the one we bought from Babyshop, it is a play mat that for whislt they are young and not rolling around all 4 sides can be put up and they are in a little square mat with bumble bee and flowers around the edges - very bright, then it has 2 poles that have hanging toys on them (6 in total), when the baby gets a bit bigger and is doing loads of tummy time you can put one end down and the toys from the hanging thing can actually hang on the sides that are still errect. There is a mirror which my DS loves talking to himself through... and then when they are rolling around loads it folds all out flat and toys can then be put on the matt for playing with instead of hanging. we really liked it. Its is very bright though. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Thanks TanyaR. Things have slowed to what I would now call my usual heavy period so that is better. A little crampy ... maybe a 1 out of 10 on pain scale... but then I had no pain relief in the birth of DS because I was ok with the contractions - weren't that bad - and when I had the ectopic pregnancy I felt no pain either... ummm so probably not one to really know about the pain!? At least the blood has slowed for today so I am hoping it was just reaction to stopping the Cerazette. See Dr early in the week so unless it picks up again, hopefully all is alright and I wont need to call her. thx heaps for the reply. xox

thx for the reply. He certainly had a gastro bug for some of it at least, because he was up to 8-11 poo's a day for a couple of days. I just had a thought the other day when things had slowed down but he was still quite runny that it conicided with me changing him over to the follow on formula so thought maybe it was a reactioin to that, but things have settled and we have 'normal' poos again yesterday / today. I think DS may be the same as yours with teeth... he hasn't got anything through yet, last of all the bubbas in our yummy mummies group. Dr says they are there but I couldn't see anything :D guess he does know what to look for.

DS is now 6.5 mths old and for contraception I have been on cerazette (sp) since he was 3 months (mind you DS seems to be a rather natural contraception anyway) ... but besides that this month - well few days before new years I got my first cycle... and well I'm still going! It slowed down for a bit but then about Friday last week decided to flow again and tonight so far I have filled 2 pads within 4 hrs. I have spoken to my obst earlier in the week and have an appointment with her next week... I've come off the mini pill because she doesn't think it is agreeing with me. I stopped taking it 2 days ago and now my p is heavier than I have experienced it in about 12 years ... not to mention that I'm at about day 15!! Should I see how I go tonight / tomorrow and then call? how much b***d is too much do you think? TIA

you hold the teddy or sleep with the teddy somehow or perhaps even a little comfort blankie thing, or even a t-shirt of yours that you have worn all day, it will have your smell on it, hopefully that may help? We did this with both of our DS comforter toys, I slept with them for about 3 nights before we gave them to him (one for his cot, one when out and about). He loves them and grizzles for a while before going to sleep but basically I find him face planted on it a few minutes later sound asleep. we also use a white noise maker type thing, it plays rain, heartbeat, waves and something else... the sound of the rain is his favourite and I leave that on until I am going to bed. I hope something works for you soon.

thx Ladies. He will take from a cup (but yeah messy). He happily takes a BIG sip of my water out of my bottle or glass even if it is sparkling water - he has a very good grip on him so if he gets hold I tend to let him take a little sip otherwise we end up with water over both of us. I might try the ones with the straw see if he will suck it up instead. We are on 4th sippy cup too but no such luck... I am just hoping by summer he is drinking it that is why I really wanted to get him started now, I know i have a few months up my sleeve but March gets hot enough for these little guys. Thx for the replies though ladies. xox

hi Novice, Not that I can provide much at all but DS (2 mths younger than yours) has hated the car from pretty much day 1. I time my trips in the car to when a) he has a full belly and has been up at least 1 hr before being put in the car for a decent 15-20 min car ride or b) we go when he ready to sleep and c) if he wakes then it is a series of songs he likes to hear try singing sleep songs or put my radio station on he whinges to screams ... put his CD or sing to him the songs he likes then generally we get to where we are going... but it has meant me singing for pretty much half an hour on some drives and no voice afterwards. :D I hope you can get him eating and sorted with everything else. Big hugs to you and your DH for the lack of sleep. xox

aww I've got all teary reading those too. I hope you are feeling a bit better lemondrops. DS was in NICU for a week (I know it isn't a whole month and he was born at 38 weeks so big difference) but still our first and in NICU from 3 mins after being born and It was 3 hrs later that I finally got to go see him, we tried b'feeding and he also had top ups via cup or syringe which the nurses did until about day 3 when I said "I want to do it!" but I felt wierd at the start because of not really getting to hold him and get to know him in the first week then we were able to finally go home 5 days later and I had hardly had time with him just me and him because of him being in NICU then taking home a little man that I had no idea on how to care for really... I actually feel sorry (more so for him later) that we don't have a photo of him the day he was born... no photos until day 2 and 3. But then the bonding we've had since coming home and these 6 months later have been wonderful. And the journey you have with both your LO's will be amazing! xox

DH was a bit the same in our situation but it got to the point that DS now knows what he can get away with with DH and what he can't do with me ... although he tries it on a bit. If DH goes and gets him when he is meant to be sleeping / trying to get to sleep then DH deals with putting him back to sleep - thats the rules... I do my way, DH does his. DS seems to know and has tried to put it on with me but I just leave him in cot, pat his bottom for a bit then leave him be, if he gets too upset I go back and do it again but he is no longer (after 12 weeks of doing it in the first 12 weeks) rocked to sleep by either of us anymore... but DH will hold him until he is almost fully asleep in his arms, I wont. So hopefully your little one will soon sort out as to what the rules are with you and your DH and then be easy sleeper again! Good luck!

I had the same with DS this morning... he was soooooooooooooooo tired but wouldn't go to sleep and if I would pick him up he'd smile and me and try talking to anything (Including the curtains!) to distract from going to sleep. He was crying on and off for almost an hour before finally the eye lids took over... (just as I made a bottle to try that mind you!) he still asleep (1.5hr later)... wonder if he is cranky from teething and / or the gastro. Hope you get sorted at Dr this morning xox

:( awww lemondrops, the bond that you will have with her will still be beautiful and caring b**b or bottle. I did half and half in the end and about 1 month ago stopped b'feeding DS and I have to say that I really love our time together with the bottle - even though he is holding it himself (from 4 months now at 6 mths)... You still get to cuddle up close with her and look into her eyes. Just this morning DS was looking up at me the whole time having his bottle and he kept grabbing my hand and holding my pointer finger, if I took it away to see what he would do, he could look around for it and hold it then gaze back up at me. It was so lovely and I'm sure you will get special moments just like that with your DD2. You can always give her plenty of skin on skin time and that will be just as beautiful for you both. xox
