Not sure about Dubai as I got my wedding invites done in Sharjah last year..they were only AED 4.50 each so definitely worth the drive there! If you just drive all the way down al wahda street until you reach the New sharjah Gold Souk and take a left at that junction. As you go down that road, you will notice on your right hand side a line of shops specializing in wedding services - they all design and print cards too and the best thing is there are all in the same location so you can really shop around for something that suits your taste and budget! Like my wedding theme, , my wedding card was in a lovely cream and lavender colour with purple crystals on the envelope and a dainty ribbon..they were really a hit! :) Good luck!

my DS went last week with his father for his tonsils..she had come recommended and after her diagnosis he seems to be much better. She doesn't approve of over-medicating apparently.

Hi ladies, Am happily expecting in Marsh 2012 and this would be baby no.2 for me! My first pregnancy was uncomplicated but the delivery at Al Wasl was a nightmare. After having the doc break my waters and experiencing painful contractions and a failed epidural the doctor sussed that my baby (born 4kg mashalla!) was too big for my pelvis and ordered an emergency c-section! With baby no.2, I am just not sure what to do. i experienced the worst of both worlds last time (labour contractions plus recovering from c-section). My epidural failed dramatically (Not sure if this was down to incompetence of doctor inserting epidural or plain bad luck) even tho they upped my dose twice and i am really scared that it may happen again! Should I just have an elective c-section? at least i will go in prepared! In case i decide to go the natural route, I am registered at welcare this time and was wondering what the success rate of their epidurals were? confused and worried :(

yes, am not sure about the rate thing either..he is currently here on visit visa and I doubt that he would go back to the UK just to come back again as the cost of the ticket would probably make it not worth it

thanks so much, brazilianindubai, DH has been doing his own business but unable to secure residence visa..am getting really tired of monthly visa runs so have finally convinced to stop being the alpha male and just let me sponsor him! :) what documents did you need, do you remember? really appreciate your input...also do you remember there being a massive deposit? I know there is an AED 5000 deposit for sponsoring parents..does it also apply for husbands?

hi ladies, am planning on sponsoring my DH thru my work. I am not a doctor or engineer but my salary is above AED 10K - are any of you ladies sponsoring your hubbys? What has been your experience? We have our wedding certificate attested from back home but not locally attested here yet - any idea what docs are required?

Thank you so much,ladies..very kind of you to share your experiences! I am such a baby about pain and panic at the sight of needles and small sharp instruments. I know the right thing is to get it removed once and for all - i will try and be positive! Hubby is on a business trip at the mo so will def wait for him to come back first.. I have been thru child birth (failed epidural and emergency cesarean) so I don't know why i am so nervous about this! I just called my dentist who told me that they wouldn't put me under GA only LA and yes I will schedule it on a Thursday - will report back once its all over inshalla!

this happened to me last year but the shoe was on the other foot and this happened with TWO of my friends. Friend No.1 Baked her a special chocolate cake for her birthday, called her to wish her on the day. invited her over to get the cake, made a fuss of her, singing, pictures, etc. On my birthday all i got was a text. I was hurt and did expect a bit more but swallowed it down..never mentioned it to her. Friend No.2 Bought her a lovely handbag for her birthday and had it delivered to her office as a surprise. On my birthday, she was out of town (had actually left without telling me) and no text, phone call, FB greeting, nothing. I left a joking msg on her FB abt forgetting my birthday. We spoke when she got back and she apologised. No gift forthcoming. her birthday is coming this month and will i buy her something? - Probably! at the end, its how you want to deal with things and being true to yourself..you have to decide whether your friendship is worth it.. Your friend might have interpreted you not giving her a gift as you not valuing her relationship with you - some ppl are like that. edited by Ayda247 on 02/06/2011

just found out from their call center that they will charge me the full amount for May and then refund me 20 minutes worth of dhs in my bill for June - what a hassle! I had called before in May and been misinformed..the girl who picked up told me to wait until the first week of june and they will 'reconcile' and take off the 20 minutes charges but THAT'S NOT THE CASE...they will still charge you but then refund in your June bill - how complicated! I for one am not paying the bill until i see the credit in June..they confirmed that they wont disconnect unless the bill reaches AED 1000...so i will play the waiting game! aaarggh

heehee - do you know the way to the Dubai airport? Most of the road signs have an aeroplane symbol that will guide you to Terminal 1. You didn't specify where you are traveling from but basically if the airport is on your left keep going straight until you pass it. You will reach a traffic light (with the Emirates office on your right). Keep going straight and stay on the left lane as you will need to go up the flyover that will take you straight to the Airport Expo - hope this helps!

Try to reconnect with your girlfriends and invite them over for coffee and a chat..perhaps make friends with other stay-at-homes mums too. Expat Woman does Coffee Mornings etc where you might meet and make interesting friends. I do sympathise coz my hubby is on a 1 month business trip right now so I know its not easy! Shoot me an email me on ayda247 at hotmail dot com :-)

Its a great place to visit when its summer in dubai coz its much cooler there with tropial rain, etc. They have really lovely beaches and yummy local food- I know coz I'm from zanzibar too :) The only thing I would say is make sure you take your malaria pills and yellow fever vaccine - you will be asked about this at the airport. Also make sure you have everything planned and booked in advance because if you are European and you book anything once you're there u'll almost certainly be overcharged! Prison Island is lovely i agree..also Matemwe beach in zanzibar.

I think if the shop sells a 'pretzel' as a main menu item then the sausage roll definitely should be too. Its listed in the same section as the pretzels anyway... The voucher just needs to be more specific. Pretzels are scrummy - but only if you werent expecting a nice hot sausage roll :)

I have worked for 3 different multinational companies and it cartainly is not the norm! E verybody is allowed one hour off to do as they please - be it lunch or a quick errand. I have been working for 10 years now and have never come across this - definitely take it up with your HR - just ridiculous!
