The main issue is that your husband is requiring rituals but has not instilled believe in, love for and knowledge about Allah in a kind and gentle manner. You can reward kids with stickers and stars but they need to be taught the reason why and for who we do acts of worship like fasting. A huge foundation is missing in your family mainly because the one who is responsible for it has not practiced himself for a long time from what I gather from your previous posts and threads. So now he is trying to make up for it but by just harshly implementing rituals he is not going to instill Islam in his daughter's heart. Yes she should be able to fast at least half a day at her age, but then she really needs to wake up and have her suhoor. Even an adult that missed suhoor with struggle fasting that day plus it is a Sunnah (our prophet pubh did it) so it's important that she eats. Even school going children from a young age are prepared for when they are required to fast, slowly building it up. But in this case your daughter has not had the chance and in stead of being encouraging, her dad is watching her like a hawk which really doesn't help. You need to remind him again and again and again untill he gets it that he needs to be GENTLE when dealing with matters of religion. I would also suggest that once school is back on that you consider taking your daughter to Islamic classes for girls. Since you said your husband hasn't got a clue as to how to teach his child Islam properly, there are some amazing teachers out there who can and it will be a good opportunity for her to meet other girls. Try Al Huda Sisters, they are amazing, or JILC. Both in Jumeirah area. [b'>"The main issue is that your husband is requiring rituals but has not instilled believe in, love for and knowledge about Allah in a kind and gentle manner. As well as getting rewarded, the children need to understand why they are doing what they are doing and foster a love for their religion. Cherpie,I wish you the best. i didn't realise you weren't practicing either so your daughter doesn't have a Muslim role model in either of you. That does make things more difficult however please don't ever give up hope. In my opinion, its better for kids to be raised in two separate homes rather than one broken home - I speak from experience. I know you feel your options are limited. Don't waste your time being ashamed - your kids wont thank you for it and we all have issues of varying degrees in our lives Please connect with someone who can help TODAY.

This is really [b'>bad[/b'> and exactly the opposite of what a good Muslim parent must do - really I am very upset! I remember my dad used to encourage us by sticking up a Rewards Chart with separate columns for Fasting, Good Behaviour, Prayers and Quran and used gold star stickers for everything we were able to complete. There was also an AED 300 jumbo cash prize at Eid for whoever did the best and this created a lot of healthy competition among all 4 siblings. Please try and speak to your husband and recommend a gentler route. I can guarantee that scaring her will simply push her away from her religion and make her rebel when she is older - you will then really have a mess on your hands! My 9 year old son fasts the whole day but he does have Suhoor every morning - usually something full of protein like two scrambled eggs on toasted brown bread and a great big glass of chocolate milk - to keep him going. I also make sure he has his favourite food at Iftar like freshly made pizza or grilled chicken - this encourages him also. At age 11, your daughter should be able to fast (although still not required to) but doesn't have the supportive environment - also being the eldest is difficult as none of the others are fasting so even more encouragement is required, not condemnation! Our prophet Muhammad (peach be upon him) was a very gentle and soft spoken man and this is the example that a good Muslim father should emulate. I pray that your husband realises this before its too late Inshalla. Be the good Muslim mum that you are and continue supporting and teaching your daughter. I will make a dua for you and best of luck for the rest of the month! ;)

It would help if you indicate what area or emirate you are in? My son started nursery at 1.5 years old as he was very social plus i didnt want him spending all day with the nanny - its totally down to the child and what you think they might enjoy.

You will need to check your country's guidance. For the UK, they don't mind if the newborn baby has their eyes closed.

I doubt that Chubby Cheeks is a British nursery? I live right behind it and have visited it for my DS and found the students and faculty to be mostly Asian. We wanted a bit more diversity for my DS so put him in Moms Nursery instead - while the faculty are again mostly Indian and Philippino - we found the student population to be a good mix of nationalities. Its run by a lovely Emirati lady - don't think it has a British curriculum as such though.

Ladies, we are planing a family vacation for next year and have been considering camping in either France or the UK - now when i say 'camping' what i actually mean is renting a chalet, etc with amenities such as hot water, kitchen facilities, comfy beds available! What we are looking for is a stress-free holiday where the kids have other children to play with and things to do other than Ipad/Wii or over-priced arcades/play-areas! My boys will be 8 and 2.5 years old next year inshalla. We are favouring holidaying in the UK rather than France as we then get a chance to catch up with family as well- can anyone recommend a place where they have been to? We want it to be close to nature but preferably with facilities like a children's playground or pool nearby.. Appreciate any advice you can give. TIA

Sakhifa, thanks for the suggestion.. I just looked them up. I think it would be more beneficial for her if she actually learned how to read in Arabic..once she has learned the arabic alphabet she can follow along with the digital pen to learn the correct pronounciation, etc... Thanks for your input in any case :)

I use the baby snug from m&p.. You didn't mention how old your baby is but if they are over 10 months and anything like my son they will fling off the tray and try to wiggle out! I use it as a feeding chair as we decided not to get a high chair since we saw he eats well in the snug.. My bubs is 16 months old now and has all his 3 meals in it! Thank goodness for that as the thing costs an arm and a leg!

yes, i took my dad there for his birthday..it was nice and the selection of food was good...they had sushi too which I love. the only cons i would say is that the restaurant is located right near the hotel entrance so its quite busy and 'open-plan'.. when we went it was also quite crowded and a bit cramped. the play area for kids is a bit far from the actual brunch...we still enjoyed ourselves though :) i would go again edited by Ayda247 on 09/01/2013

Plumie, the Pure Fitness course looks really good but what a shame that its only in the mornings - what about us working mums, hey? What with the pathetic maternity leave allowance in this country, we only get round to thinking about exercise by the time we get back to work! Also, wish we had more exercise options/mummy boot caps, etc on the mirdif /gusais side where i live...everything seems to be new dubai side :( the good news is i have lost half a kilo in 2 days! i know thats nothing but believe me i wouldnt go a single gram under 78 kilos before... So...yesterdays brekkie: hot lemon water, pear, nectarine lunch: waitrose deli butternut squash and green bean plus a TINY bit of lasagne dinner: packet asparagus soup

Lentil soup couldnt be easier to make - or healthier! Saute some sliced onions until golden, add chopped carrots and one cup of lentils plus salt and pepper (you can also add coriander if you like). Add hot water or stock (I pop in a maggi or oxo cube at times) and allow to cook. I use the orange lentils and they cook quite quickly..once done just blitz , add a dash of cream (optional and serve piping hot - yummy! its so simple to cook yet amazingly yummy and nutritious this was a staple in my house during ramadan :)

Hi Hilsbils, I have had 2 pregnancies and gained 20 kilos both times. I started picking up weight gradually through my trimesters. I worked right up to my last week but otherwise did no exercise as I had some light bleeding this time which made me nervous and shy away from anything 'overly' active..the most exercise i got was walking up and down the malls (which i did a lot of) and coming to work. I didnt eat more than usual really..i actually got admitted into hospital three times for food poisoning as my tummy went really sensitive this time and I couldnt eat anything except really really fresh food so i had to be ever so careful and so didnt really enjoy eating out. My weak point i have to say is my sweet tooth..i find it very hard to go to bed without atleast eating one chocolate digestive..although I am trying to do this less now. Pauls is my idea of HEAVEN :)

Many buildings in al nahda have chiller included - ours did for the past 2 years but they have taken that off when we renewed this year - SNIFF! Having said that, they did reduce our rent by AED 6K last year and 2K when we renewed this year. The terraces in my building are a normal size..big enough to comfortably hang out your washing and for our cat to sun in... check out dubizzle for the latest offers..also if you just drive around alnahda you will see loads of To Let signs and you can jot down the numbers. good luck! edited by Ayda247 on 25/08/2012

I dont live in ghoroob but DH and I did go recently to view an apt...nice enough but not as spacious as what we have now in al nahda..also their in-built wardrobes are quite slim and dont have enough storage really so this kinda put me off...we have lovely 6-door wardrobes in our bedroom at the mo. The pros i suppose are the 'community living' and being right behind mirdif CC...also is nice to just be ablw to go downstairs and have a walk and see a few patches of green..sigh.

Be strong..you will get through this with Allah's help. My advice if you want a speedy divorce is just ask for a 'khulaa' which means you will not receive any alimony but you will still get child support -also your husband can ask for 50% of his mahr/dowry back. I hope you are employed or that your parents can support you.

You can save a bomb by just taking your kids to the govt clinics who offer all the vaccinations for free! Just get them a Govt health card by registering them (go to the www.dha.gov.ae for guidance or call 800 342)..they will then assign you a clinic to visit according to which area you live in..you can then make an appt and take your kid there. I took my son for his 4 month vaccinations at mamzar clinic..perfectly lovely..modern and clean...nice nurse..no rush at all..and best of al - FREE! Thank goodness - at least SOMETHING is free in this country :) Just to add, you need to have a residence visa to get a govt health card edited by Ayda247 on 21/08/2012

Go Girl, you sound like a very responsible and compassionate person and cutting ties with your mum might bring regrets that will haunt you later. Take the opportunity to be honest with her about how she has made you feel - but do it for YOU - not because you expect your mum to suddenly fall down on her knees in apology - I suspect she may not! Still you would have atleast aired your feelings and got them off your chest. If you dont feel your visit will be valued then plan something else for yourself but keep communication ties open. Maybe try writing her a letter about how you feel..? Are you an only child? If not, do your siblings get the same treatment? At the end of the day, if your relationship with someone produces nothing but toxicity then you should not feel 'terrible' about keeping your communication with them to an absolute minimum. Mums are supposed to be our bestfriends and allies but sadly not all of them are - learn from your mum's mistakes and use them as lessons in your own life. Chin, up, my dear! edited by Ayda247 on 12/07/2012
