I increased mine by 200aed. I don't give her a bonus as such. If she doesnt go home I'd just give her the flight money but when she does I just give her holiday money as extra which was a 1000 last Christmas.

For those employing a live-out maid, can you please let me know what working hours you have agreed in your contract? Also, is it legal for a live-out maid to be on her husband's visa and we only provide a labour card for her? TIA. I had 8 til 6. That suited me but you need to choose what suits you and your household. It is illegal not to sponsor your maid live in or out. P

Not everybody gets charged for it though, I responded to a request by DEWA months ago asking me to let them know how much rent I pay so that they can start charging me but they are still not! I am not complaining though :) So if it doesn't appear on your bill then you don't need to follow it up anywhere - if you are going to get charged for it then it will be on there. I did the same as you in February and this month low and behold my dwea bill doubled. Hopefullybthey are not planning to back date it.

I'm sure you know this already but babies first start nursery they pick up all sorts of infections etc until they build their immune system up. Personally I would put her into a nursery. I'm not sure if Children Oasis are still on the Palm but they have a day care centre there which you can put your DD in on ad hoc days. Unless you sponsor a nanny or get the nanny from an agency part time work is illegal in Dubai. Blossom Nursery where DD went when she was younger does 3 days a week and they all an all year programme as well. It worked for me as I'm a working mummy. Good luck x

Plane ticket! Get the exit pass before they leave Dubai as it cheaper this end than the Phillippines. Also, give them their MOL contract. Thats what mine took back with her when she went back at Christmas for a month.

Each Emirate is different. We transferred our maids visa from Fujeriah to Dubai and we had to pay the deposit of AED 2000. In Fujeriah you don't get your deposit back! In Dubai you get a small receipt for the AED 2000 and when she leaves the country or her visa is transferred to another Sponsor you get your deposit back so long as you have the receipt. That was what I was told last October when we transferred her visa.

I have had an Edge for the past 2 years. I really love the car. For the price I paid it is pretty much fully loaded a bit too many extras for me. Only problem I have with it is that its not really a 4 x 4 and so can't take it into the desert. I would definiately recommend it. Not sure about servicing etc as when you buy brand new I got free servicing and the first year's insurance for free. Not sure if that deal is still on though. There are loads of Edges around so we can't be all wrong.

Hi, I live in Motorcity. My DD is in FS1 at Star International Umm Sequiem. Realistically its about 20 minute drive from Motorcity. JESS in Arabian Ranches is near on impossible to get into unless you have a company debenture. Gems World Academy is IB and costs not far off my yearly rent for a 3 bed in Motorcity. Saying that, GWA does have the facilities to match their fees.

I can't hear anything but I suppose you live nearer the track than I do. Saying that I'd be lying if I said I couldn't hear the noise if I sitting on the balcony. I thought it was louder last year than this year but it could be because I'm going deaf?

Depending where your visa is from they can also ask for a degree certificate but in answer to your question Yes you can and it is AED 25 per day penalty for overstay.

Try Emirates Avenue they are an on line store. You can pay cash on delivery. Didn't buy an ipad from them but I did get an Iphone 4. As an on line store I would recommend them.

Thanks for all the replies. I've emailed Dubai NRD and will call them in a few days if I don't get any response. Trouble is, even if I call, there's no guarantee the info I get will apply on the day! Perhaps a visa run is the best bet after all, because 700dhs is a lot for an extension. Someone told me 500dhs yesterday :(. It's definitely more than 500AED. It works out like 500AED then you have to buy some insurance and then admin fee it came out just under 700AED!

For the ladies that pay 2000 and up, do you work? Does the maid/nanny take care of the kids full time? I pay my nanny 2000AED. DH and I both work full time. DD is at school til 12:30pm and the nanny gets a taxi to school picks her up, takes her to play dates and etc.

I'm now on my 3rd maid. First one - live out and managed to get herself pregnant and not by her husband so we had to send her back to the Philippines. Second one - we treated to her to a ticket home as a early christmas present as she had not been home for 8 years due to complications with her passport etc and she didn't bother returning. Third one is still with us!

There is only a 30 days grace period if the "visa" was still valid when cancelled which in your case it is not as her visa has technically expired. The fine is 25AED per day.

This is one of those not black and white areas. To be on the safe side you should do a visa run. Yes you should get 10 days grace but it also depends on the person who is stamping your passport. When my mum came over I went to immigration with her passport and paid 700AED to get it stamped for another 30 days. DH and LO went to do a visa run once DH ended up paying 500AED cause he was 5 days over his 30 days and LO didn't pay anything - I couldn't really understand the logic of that.

RAK I know doesn't need your company to be listed with them. What they will ask for is 6 months bank statements, salary letter confirming that you are a "confirmed" employee. Another bet is to go to the bank your company bank's with.

Have you tried all the usual agencies Taylor Root etc - I think the biggest problem you would have here is that UAE employment law differs greatly from UK employment law. Not a lawyer but a PA in law firm.

The local contract is one that everyone has to sign which is in Arabic and English and submitted to the Ministry of Labour. It will have a section for salary, allowance etc but not school fees I don't think. Your company may then attach their own contract of employment to it. When push comes to shove though the Ministry of Labour's Contract always prevail.

No - they make me want to go into their head offices with a an automatic machine gun and millions of cartridges. They all employ morons who couldn't think for themselves if their life depended on it. The worst has to be Sub Standard Chartered - seriously all their employees must be some village's idiot. ETA to add that obviously this is just a want and not something that i would actually do..... :D edited by Princess_I on 30/10/2011 LOL but I'm sorry Standard Chartered are not the worse it has to be HSBC!

I'm just about to appeal against a parking fine. I've just got off the phone to the RTA. Email complaints to [email protected]. Include your phone number, name and a copy of your fine and also a copy of your registration card. I paid for my parking ticket by sms and got confirmation message back and a couple of hours later got a message saying if I wanted to extend my parking. Got back to my car and found a ticket on the windscreen about 30 minutes after I had got confirmation saying that it was all paid. The nice people at RTA have said if I do all of the above my fine will be cancelled. In the meantime, though I may still have to pay the fine as my car needs to be reregistered on the 4 November. By the way for anyone that is interested. It's a AED 25 fine per month if your registration card is has expired.

Car Rentals like Hertz will let you take the car to Oman but you have to specify this to them at the time. Not sure about the driving license situation though as DH had a UAE driving license at the time.

Dear, please I need some advise about a situation I have. 1 month ago I left the company I was working for. now my Visa has been cancelled but the company doesn't want to give me back my italian passport till or I have a new sponsor or I have to exit the country. fact is I am a bit fed up with them and I know for sure that any passport belongs to the governement who issued it and they cannot do it....any advise? thanks a lot in advance! Marina The reason they are most probably holding your passport is because I assume they have had to pay a deposit for you and the only way for them to get their deposit back is either you get yourself another sponsor or leave the country.

When my boss lost his license last year the RTA told him he had to go to report it to police and get a report. It may have changed by now. Also, you should always have your license on you as its an instant 200 or 250 fine!
