Hi some schools do offer after school clubs. Horizon International is one. I think it's til 5pm. Probably won't need breakfast club cause schools start really here.

Hi, my DD is at Horizon International School. At the moment she has French once a week and obviously Arabic. I personally really like the school. My DD will be entering Year 3 and has been at the school since FS1. They have lots of after school activities some internal and others provided by external providers. With regard to beyond Year 6 Horizon feeds into Horizon International School. I personally feel that she has too much homework but I'm sure other parents would disagree with me!

Hello ladies, Iam looking for an italian or Slovak speaking nanny to help us with our 2 boys (2,5 and 4 years old) during our vacation at jumeirah zabeel saray in Palm dubai. We will stay there from 9-22 . November. We would need the nanny from 9-12:00 and 15-19:00 to play with the kids at the beach with us or to take them to the kids club. Please advise me where to find somebody that fits our needs. Thank you This is my personal opinion but I would suggest leaving your kids at home as you don't seem to be wanting to spent too much time on your own with them.

Ok, this is an interesting question, im looking to hire a nanny soon as im expecting my first. I will be going back to work after 3 months maternity, so this does not leave my nanny /maid for an option of a start/finishing time. So, how does that work? She will be at home with my baby and will be expected to clean a 2brm apartment. Also, i will need help with noght time wakeups as i have to work everyday. How should i deal with this? I think it is unfair to expect your homehelp to look after a newborn/clean apartment and help you with night feeds. When does homehelp get rest to be on the ball to look after your newborn during the day. You should do the night feeds between yourself and your DH if possible. You will figure it out once the baby comes. Good luck

Rosie, Hopefully you will get to read this as I missed your initial post. Going against you is the fact that you do not have any Middle East experience. The plus side is that you are from the UK. I work for an international law firm. May I suggest that you do two things. 1. Set yourself up on LinkedIn and get in touch with recruiters that way. 2. Email the law firms direct. That way law firms do not have to pay agency fees. I know for a fact that if they like what they see on your CV you do not have to travel to Dubai for interviews. I myself have arranged vc's via our London office for interviews. The last two law firms I have worked at will not even entertain the thought of a PA whose first language is not English which is sad but true. Why is that sad? The reason I say it's sad is just because your not an English native speaking legal PA doesn't mean you can't do the job as well as a native English PA. I cannot speak for all PA positions but for legal PAs this does seem the case for international law firms.

Hi, I'm not sure what sort of contract she is on but my understanding is that if you are an expat sponsoring then the contracts are yearly. It is only locals that get 2 year visas for housemaids. Anyway if she is asking to leave before her contract is up then you don't have to give her a flight home. I don't think you even need to give her the holiday pay either but her contract will clarify that.

Just be wary, I believe (and I am happy for someone to say I'm wrong) that it is illegal for a tutor to freelance if they are not on your sponsorship. Yep your correct. People will choose to ignore that until a problem arises.

Not sure whether this is helpful or not but your maids contract is standard contract issued by the Ministry of Labour in Arabic and English and as far as I am aware completely non-negotiable.

We have just back from Sri Lanka. Beautiful country with very warm and Friendly people. I do think you need to get yourself a driver and arrange it in advance We stayed in three different places DH planned the trip so spent quite a lot of time in the car which isn't ideal. We also took our own kid's booster seat as the company didn't supply them. I wouldnt bother taking usd next time. You will have an amazing holiday.

Babyrat, I was just wondering whether you have tried K9 Central yet, and if so, what your experience was? I took Lola there a few times for day care and so far so good. The couple who run it seem lovely. Will update you when back from holiday. I personally opted for somewhere which wasn't too busy. They understood Lola's medical condition. It's a family run operation with few staff.

Hi, I have a female Frenchie who is now just over 2 years old. Definitely get them checked over by a vet. Ours was 5 months when we took ownership of her. We crated her at bed time in our bedroom. Frenchies you will find are a very stubborn bred of dog. I gave up with pads and just used newspaper. It's quite repetative but every time they pee on the pad praise them. We had newspaper in our living room and the hallway and then slowly removed them. Hope that helps. Stubborn dogs but so bleedin lovable x When u say u slowly removed them where does she now pee? I'm not bothered about trying to get him to want to go on the balcony or anything like that, just in the same place on the plastic pee pad thing I've got. He did fine at the vets yesterday so all good there. Any tips on not chewing and biting??! This is something which comes over time. Once she is peeing on the mats consistently, I removed the newspaper at the end of our hallway and left just once place she could pee. After about a few weeks I moved the newspaper in our living room closer to the balcony door and then I moved it to the outside. She used to give me a sign wanting to go out side for a pee. Once she got used to peeing on the balcony, I started taking her outside to pee only on her walks. So basically her toilet busy is done at 6am, 11am, 3pm, 6ish and before I go to bed I run her downstairs. Lola didn't really bite but she loved to chew, shoes, table legs etc. no matter how many chewing toys I got her she chewed. They will grow out of the chewing phase eventually. Word of advice keep expensive shoes high off the ground!

Hi everyone, Im thinking about recruiting a maid from Madagascar. Anyone has an experience with this nationality ? I do not think you can employ someone as a "servant" unless it is listed as one of the acceptable countries. Obviously if you are employing them on a company visa that is something different.

Ford Edge all the way for me. If you get one of those limited addition versions mine is 4 years old now it comes with DVD players at the back and all the mod cons which I don't use and it's reasonably priced as well. Also another thing to bear in mind when buying a car is where the service centre is. DH has a VW and their service centre is back and beyond.

As an option you do not need to be on your husband's visa if you are looking for employment yourself. Your company will provide you with a visa so their Public Relations officer (PRO) will do all the running around for you.

Be grateful for what you have Totally agree. We are blessed with one healthy child. Would have loved to have another one but unfortunately for DH and I it wasn't to be. DD has often mentioned how much she would like a sister or a dog - couldn't give her a sister but we got her the dog!

She thought of this herself ? At 6 yrs old? Wow. Not quite. We donate things to labor camps and ELC were collecting books, toys etc which I always get her involved in. She suggested for her 5th birthday to give some of her presents to kids who didn't have any but when push come to shove she didn't want to give any of them up and said that she would do it next year. This year she said that she wanted to donate her presents to dogs or animals so I suggested rather than toys she could ask people to give money which we would then give to the people who looked after the dogs who had no homes or mummies or daddies.

I like Extreme Fun. DD had her birthday party there today. Have to agree communication is lacking somewhat as from the time I paid the deposit to her party there was no communication. I just turned up on the day with guest list and they took care of everything else. I do understand what you mean by the machines but like everything else in Dubai it's how to make money from parents.

DD has been in Star since FS1 and is now in year 1. Class sizes when she first started was 20 and last September it was increased to 22. They are now under the same owners as Horizon. The school will not be called Star as from September 2014. I personally feel that for FS1 it's fantastic as they have really improved the Foundation play area. My DD is happy and learning and I'm a happy mummy if that helps. You need to o with your gut feeling. All the best x

Hi, I've been using In Safe Hands for a few months now. Dedicated driver who collects home help on time they go and get DD and then back home again. The biggest problem for me was getting it all set up. They email you a form which you have to sign and email back asking all sorts of questions. Some one disregards all the answers to the questions. You then have to repeat yourself but the service itself once up and running is really good. So far no complaints. Your other option would be to use a taxi service which on the whole is fine but there had been occasions when it has been late or taxi not turned.

Yes is the simple answer. Your landlord may think differently though. There are lots and lots of dogs here. Should probably rename it "Dog City".

I think it is harder now than was before. A very good friend of mine has sponsored her home help for the past 3 years but this year she when she went to renew she was told that she was not allowed despite the fact that she had done it for the past 3 years. The worst bit is that you have to go all the typing fees and then pay fees only to be told no then its a pain to get the refund back. As others have suggested I would go to immigration and get it signed off before you proceed.

I read the new decree but as I understand it works within the rera index. He can only increase it by 10% if you are paying 21 to 30 lower than properties in your area. Obviously he can rent it out for whatever he wants if someone is prepared to pay that amount.

I agree with the other posters. Your best option is to hire a live out. I am assuming the schools you have chosen do not have after school care. How would you get your child from school to after school care is something you would also have to consider.

I just wanted to add that it is in your interest that your tenancy contract is Ejari registered. You can go and register it yourself. It will cost you aed 160 and you will need to take your tenancy contract plus copy of title deeds for it to be done.
