We had ours at 5 1/2 month instead (because we were leaving for summer holidays then and I wanted to make sure all vaccines are from the same manufacturer). Our doc said as long as there is minimum of 4 weeks between vaccinations it is all fine, longer is not a problem.

Thank you, ladies, for your valuable recommendations and your kind wishes. I started giving him a juice box and a half liter bottle of water on top of what he gets in his refillable water bottle to the school. Also giving him extra cup of tea in the morning for breakfast. And giving him big water bottle after school until dinner. So far so good. I will now need to ensure he gets enough hydration during and after his intensive sports classes.

Thanks a lot. I didn't even consider checking his eyes as we had an eye test last year (he had an eye infection, so they also checked his eyesight) and it was ok then. But he uses/plays gadgets (more during summer holidays than now) and it might have got worse. Will consider osteopath too. Thanks a lot

I'm also interested in that. But I can guess it depends on which grade your child is. Mine will go to grade 3 US curriculum this September and next year we want to change school (most likely to IB as it seems easier transition than to British curriculum - I might be wrong and would be glad to hear comments as it could help to broaden the perspectives)

If you are looking for regular chess boxes (e.g. to play yourself/family members) - these types are available in toy stores (Toy Store, Hamleys) or Dragon Mart obviously (I bought one there when all toy stores were out of stock some time ago and my son desperately needed one). If you need elegant (decorated, fancy looking) - that type you would find in souvenir shops (like Al Jaber)

If you are looking for ready made Aptamil 1 (that is from birth up to 6 mo) then Waitrose in Dubai Marina mall doesn't have it these days (I do check it every time I'm there), but yesterday I saw it in Spinneys which is in Meadows Town Centre (however you need to read the labels carefully as it doesn't really say 1 but somewhere it says "from birth to ...) Sorry I was wrong. Waitrose in Dubai Marina mall does have it - both Aptamil 1 and Aptamil without any number which just says from birth

Yes, that's what I was afraid of. I had a bad experience with makeup (not BB though) at Harvey Nichols in MOE. The natural, daytime look turned out to be some exotic carnival look (I can't even imagine how would I look if asked for an evening look :) And yes, I am also afraid of the pressure to purchase the products that THEY think is good for me.

Thanks for advice srmommy. But mine were bed bugs! I ended up calling NPC (who confirmed they were bed bugs) and they did a heat treatment (I think it was called ThermoCure - a bit pricey procedure but chemical free, so it is safe as I have a little baby). Since my husband travels a lot, we guessed it was his luggage which brought those nasty creatures. Since the treatment, every time my dh back from trip, i immediately wash his clothes (make him to take off all his clothes at the door as soon as he enters :) and whatever in his luggage at high temperature. And keep the luggage and cases, backpacks on a balcony for at least 24 hours under direct sun (that was the advice from NPC inspector).

If the price is not a concern, I'd recommend to check Western Furniture. We bought 1 and 3 seater reclining leather sofas there couple of years back during Ramadan so it came with a discount. They have a showroom in SZR near Oasis mall and another one in Karama, if not mistaken (the latter is bigger, hence bigger assortment)

I looked around my mattress and found red spots, brown/black spots (faeces?) and... the bug themselves. I found 5 of them and 3 of them were huge - 4mm at least and when I squeezed them in a tissue, there was blood (my blood I guess). It was horrible. I am afraid to use pest control guys as they use chemicals and my LO is still very young. I need a very safe option to get rid of those monsters (would love to put all my beddings and mattresses outdoors and expose to sun/heat, but we live in an apartment).

Hi - I'm pretty sure that the issue here is bed bugs which are really common in the UAE, especially in high rise apartment blocks. I had an issue with these a couple of years back so did a huge amount of research into these - they were a nightmare to get rid of and eventually had to get pest control in twice to resolve the issue completely. They can be passed via clothing, communal AC vents, suitcases, neighbouring apartments and their preferred habitat is sofas, matresses and soft furnishings. They can be difficult to detect as they embed themselves deep within these furnishings where they lay eggs - they tend to be noctural so typically come out in the dark and when it gets cooler in the evenings. They live exclusively off human blood and usually during the night but you can rarely feel them biting. No serious health issues to worry about for your young one - mainly mild rashes and some itching. But I'd try and deal with the issue early as they are very resilient creatures and can live up to 18 months without feeding off any blood. Also they are rampant at breeding - one pregnant bed bug and spawn up to 5000 bed bugs in the space of a 6 month period and you may have to discard furnishings if they become too heavily infested with these bugs / eggs. If it is bed bugs, try taking your matress off the bed frame and try to give the bedframe a good shake, you should see some bugs hit the floor - they are about 2 or 3mm long - and a red / brown colour. Thanks for such an insightful information. I remember seeing a thread in forum about mattress cleaning company. Maybe they could be of a help. It is still not clear why and how they started their joyful life in my mattress - it's been only few weeks - where they might come from.....

Me and my 2.5 month old baby daughter are being bitten by some bugs (since couple of weeks back time). At least every other day we wake up (she sleeps with me most of the night) with rash (one or two spots) either on our arms, upper chest and face (bare skin part except for feet and legs). They itch and disappear in 1-2 days (like mosquito bites). But then new ones come up. I haven't seen any bug flying or crawling around our bed. I use mattress protectors. And can't really figure out what kind of "animal" is doing this to us (more worried for my little baby than myself obviously).

Thank you, ladies. I wouldn't really bother if the eczema was anywhere but my face as it is in "dormant" stage :) but still the redness is there and it doesn't look nice on face. I am breast-feeding and plan to breast-feed at least for a year. But I don't want to wait whole year, so need to do something about it. Thanks for the recommendations, will check them up.

Are you trying to change your mortgage provider? We've just been through this. We told them we had a better offer and what could they do and said nothing. Once it came to the crunch they came up with an offer after delaying. We are trying to close the deal and repay remaining amount from own funds. For them it is a lost of regular monthly income obviously. But they should adhere to the policies and keep their promises, which they are violating. And they are still not responding.

Tamweel/DIB is delaying the process of early settlement of home financing (they said it would be 7 working days and it is already 16 and the representative is not picking up the phone nor responding to e-mails, customer call centre obviously can't do anything). Who we need to complain about this? Is it Central Bank? Or Customer Rights? Or Ministry of whatever?

I am 40 (will turn 41 this year) and just delivered my 2nd baby. Pregnancy was ok (but different compared the first one which is most likely not age related). I had extra tests during 12-13 weeks (early screening for down syndrome and surprisingly my insurance co reimbursed it as it is not part of the antenatal package and not directly covered by insurance) but other than that, everything was as usual. Was with Dr Yamini Dhar in Al Zahra hospital and delivered there too. I liked the place because a) it is close to home, b) new and well equipped hospital and has all the screenings and lab results in house and of course c) Dr has lots of positive reviews in EW.

I turned out to be a January mom. Delivered in Al Zahra hospital. Was with Dr Yamini throughout pregnancy but she couldn't reach me on time as 1) it was Friday 2) delivery was very quick. But the midwife (Emma) was great. My husband was very impressed with her too :) So good luck to you all! Have an easy delivery!

Couple of months ago I saw bed of that size in PanEmirates (I was looking for a 120X200 at that time). Alternatively, you can check kids or teens sets in either Pan or Home Centre or Homes R Us - they sell beds separately too and might be the size you are looking for.

I am 40 and about to have my 2nd baby. Do I think I am old? Well, maybe as I can't party all night long and feel as fresh next morning as I used to be in my 20s. But I don't fancy partying anymore as my lifestyle changed since marriage, first baby, etc. Actually, IMO, baby at this age is such a great motivator to stay healthy and fit (which I certainly neglected 10-15 years ago). Anyway, if you feel like having more babies and you can physically and financially support them until they reach certain age, I see absolutely no problem in having them even at 45-48.

how old was your son when you moved schools. Having class mates from old school definitely helps...but what if there is no such mass movement...do you still think transition would be easy. edited by Champs1 on 02/01/2015 edited by Champs1 on 02/01/2015 edited by Champs1 on 03/01/2015 My son was 6 and a half when we started a new school. From your concerns I can see your child is older and not willing to change school. I remember one of my friends also having such concern when her 9 year old son was refusing to change school, crying, begging, tearing his mom's heart apart. But finally she made up her mind and changed the school, and yes, he was not happy at the beginning, it took him about a month to settle down by the second month he wouldn't even remember his crying about the whole changing thing. He is a happy and successful student with bunch of new friends.

Barlas, did your child settle into the new school soon ...how did you make the whole change thing "positive" for your child because as you rightfully said children will miss their friends and the familiar routines...and then the fear of the unknown Yes, he settled quite smoothly and well. Moreover there were few of his classmates who moved to the same school (not the same class though), which made the transition almost seamless. Of course, I had to explain why we are changing the school in a child-friendly manner :) so there were no major concerns from his side

Forgot to mention: my major concerns were lack of communication (both school-wide/general and teacher-parent), no commitment from school/management side to punish responsible people and do improvements when there was an accident during which my DS broke his arm and underwent an operation on his arm to fix his bone.

Children are happy because they make friends there and get used to the atmosphere. Any change frightens both children and adults but children are far more better in adapting. But if your concerns are valid, you should change it - you are an adult and able to make an informed decision for best/benefit of your child. I did not ask my child when I changed his school because I had too many concerns about the school too.

Why don't you try hourly or monthly maids from agencies. I am about to try one soon from a maid agency and they are offering me a monthly contract for a half-day (5 hours) service (that is 6 days a week and I can schedule which days I would need her in the morning and which days in the afternoon). It is going to cost us as much as a full time live out maid would (but less than hourly though) but we don't need to do visa and can change the maid if we are not happy with her. Me too was tired trying to find a decent live out maid and then we came across this option and my DH preferred to go this way

Polly wasn't being sarcastic. She was pleased to know that perfumes are cheaper at DFF than they are in the shops here Thank you for clarification. I thought if anyone who lives in Dubai more than 3 years and travels around (and buys perfume on top of that) would know that DFF is cheaper. Well, my bad, it was a groundless assumption. edited by barlas on 15/12/2014

Yes they are cheaper in duty free than in regular shops (at least by 60-80 Dhs) Wow really?!! Good to know Your sarcasm is irrelevant as OP asked about Oud scent, which is quite region specific (I haven't seen Oud perfumes in those few European Duty Frees I've been to) and I can only assume she is comparing prices of DF and regular shops.

We just moved out from an apartment and agreed to compensate half of the painting amount because the apartment was not freshly painted when we moved in, but obviously it got worse after 3 years there with a little kid. So you can at least try to get a compromise of this sort.
