Hello Everyone, We are planning a move into the Green Community Motorcity, we love the place with its serenity and green surroundings but have got two major questions : A. How many of you have come across rodents/pests and roaches and how often? (coz it seems to be a major issue in Uptown MC) B. Roughly, how much is the Emicool bill per month for a 4 bed townhouse? thanks in advance edited by Bats4891 on 13/01/2014

Your LO will not be 19 months for ever .I believe you must keep other factors in mind before deciding.... That's correct! But she won't turn two till October and we intend to move in June, fine I can wait but the only nursery in GC has long waiting lists and there is no guarantee my LO will get in. Thanks for the info phool_bibi, I hope the new nurseries open up soon. edited by Bats4891 on 10/05/2013

Hello ladies, me and hubby have been planning to purchase an apartment of our own and to move in not for investment ! We are really confused between two locations that we have short-listed. One is motor city and the other is the green community (DIP); Actually DH works in JEbel Ali free zone and my daughter goes to a nursery. Now the thing is that we really like green community although a 3 bed costs higher there but we are willing to pay the price, however in green community there are no nurseries except one which takes kids from 2+ (my daughter already goes to a nursery at 19 months and I'd like to continue) Now coming to motor city, we like apartments there and the community too! Thy are cheaper than GC (but not as green and suburban) and there is a really good nursery there called emirates British where I intend to send my daughter. We estimated that if we choose GC and enroll daughter in motor city nursery, the daily run from GC to motor city is 15-20.mins- but on a daily basis would it b easy ? I hence need advise (pros and cons) of both places before we make a decision since its a lot of money involved ! edited by Bats4891 on 10/05/2013

You shouldn't worry if the baby is not vomiting. Always check the eyes after a fall, if you see the eye balls moving up or the baby doesn't seem to focus that's when you should panic. Also try to keep the child up for at least 4 hours after the fall so as to prevent any coma state (but thats for a very bad fall and esp if the head has a bump or something). And don't feel bad at all, all babies fall off the beds at some point in time, mine did when she was 3 months - Imagine. She cried hysterically for 5 minutes then was fine and started playing/babbling right after that but i still took her to the ER and they checked the vitals and said she was ok. You can get him checked there is no harm in that. edited by Bats4891 on 30/01/2013

Thanks for the info Forty Winks, I will look into this one as well. I'm in JLT but I'm open to driving till Jumeirah and Al Wasl coz thats where all the good nurseries are. Shivi, I checked with British Orchard but they are expensive, for 3 days something like aed 9,400 whereas all others are in the range of 7500-8400; Plus this is minus the registration and medical so i was a bit skeptical !

Would agree with SamK96, Dr. Tazyeen Faysal at Medgate Jumeira and her own clinic at Motorcity is just amazing. She was my doc and that of 3 other people i know of and everyone is just praise for her

You're quite right Alemania, that's the reason I have selected quite a few (the ones with good repute) and gotten myself on their waiting list, if let's say one or two out of them wont call chances are the third or fourth will get back. Also, i'm following up with them, two have actually told me they can accept for April session this year. Plus whenever I see/hear a good review of a nursery i end up calling them, booking a tour and get myself on their wait list. Cut-off is April for me so chances are I will end up putting my LO wherever I get in (the ones on the list i.e.) coz if i keep waiting for the best to accept, I might just end up waiting and wasting time.

The light-weight Chico ones are the best, they are cheap and sturdy and the reversible option is also there in some. The rest are too fancy and obviously pricey

Thanks a lot Shivi, yes i agree with you its totally a gut feel, they are all charging almost the same money and following almost the same curriculum! People have been telling me that the oldies know their stuff so yes JAVN and Kids Island both have been here for sometime and I believe they do have an edge over others. My one other concern is most nurseries have just enrolled too many children and they are literally crammed in a very small space plus the teachers aren't trained enough and mostly the children are left on assistants to be taken care of. Let's see what others have to say, although i admit that i'm a little inclined on kids island too!

I'd completely agree with Alisha the service is pathetic and yes the hairdressers all speak Arabic and amongst themselves, they also like to pretend they dont understand what you're saying. I actually did get the Cobone and i'd say the cut was 8 on a scale of 10 but the blow dry was really bad (the dresser seemed pre-occupied in checking-out other customers lol) Also the "keratin" which they like to call it, was so bad since the hair-dresser grabbed a used bowl from a customer next to me and slathered it on my hair carelessly not even covering the entire hair; when i intervened he said in Arabic, "its more than enough for you hair! " imagine!!!!

Was just going through the thread below and couldn't help sharing my own experience with a Cobone for a blow dry and a haircut; We had recently moved to Dubai and someone told us to check out the Cobones, i bought this one at some Salon, something called Hair &.. i dont remember exactly- anyways, i called them to get an appointment for a weekend ( i have a baby and at that time she was 2 months old) which they refused saying they only entertain cobones on weekdays. So i finally settled for a weekday at 7:00 pm so that my DH could take care of my baby- they told me the whole thing blow-dry and cut would take max 45 minutes..i reached there on time to find two least interested filipina workers busy painting their nails and i showed them my cobone so they asked me to wait; and this is where it all started, apparently their hair-dresser was gone out and they kept calling him and he kept saying he'd be there in 10 minutes..so much so that an hour went by in this whole calling and apologizing to me and asking to wait, when ultimately I couldn't take it any longer so I decided to leave and asked for a refund; at this the girl got startled and rang the salon owner, who then solved it by I guess calling the hair-dresser. He arrived and rushed through the cut and the b-dry as it was very near their closing time. Anyways, to cut the story short i felt really like i was a burden on them and wasn't at all treated like a customer- i'm a firm believer of the fact that services should not be paid for before hand, they should only be paid after utilizing the service. Cobones for services are definitely a No-No for me!

This is the exact same thing i was wondering; i want to purchase it but i'm skeptical because last time i bought a Cobone for a hair-treatment (cut and dry) at Hair&Colors it was the most pathetic experience i had at a salon- they kept me waiting for 2 hours since their hair-stylist was not in..earlier they refused to accommodate me on a weekend saying they don't entertain cobones on weekends, its for weekdays only. I realized that if you pay less you end up getting a mediocre treatment- However, i'm not sure about this Salon so would appreciate any advise
