I started an other thread on here with regards to normal working hours for a helper. Guess I will just have to wait until her contract comes to an end as well as hoping she'll change for the better. We are trying our best to make her feel part of our family...

I don't think this is something you can teach. Either she has a passion for it or she doesn't. Maybe she's not the right fit for your family. :/ you may be right... She has only been with us since October though and it seems abut nasty to tell her to leave because she doesn't seem to love my child enough... There is also the matter of having paid a chunk of money for her visa etc. i realise this shouldn't be a money matter but it is for us-so I think she will be with us at least until her contract is up... and I'll continue hoping she'll come around

... Which is why we hired her as a helper. Not nanny, not maid. We explained in detail what her duties would be ( help around the house, help look after the LO) I sometimes will ask her to play with my LO so that I can get on with other jobs such as cooking etc. we live an open plan apartment so it is easy to observe how my helper goes about her tasks whilst getting on with my own jobs. It is not as if I ask her to play whilst I sit around watching them having a coffee ;)

Tried it all... Taking to hear, explaining the ground rules again... Trying to figure out any other possible reasons. She seems to get it for now. Fingers crossed it'll last a little while...

Thank you! I was going to check out the jebel Ali play group today but ended up getting flu and figured I better wait until next week! ;) It would be great if EW would be able to organise an other group for the pre-walkers. Please do let me know if you find out more!

Is anyone able to give feedback? We are thinking of signing our LO up for kindergarden there. We are trying to teach her english and german... but it is proving to be harder than we thought. I keep slipping over to speaking english with her, even when we are alone. :/

Good Morning! I've been going to the Cafe Nero mornings at Dubai Marina Mall. My little one is now getting a little too active...i was wondering if there are any other meet-ups closer to the Marina (other than the one at Magic Planet Mirdif on Tuesdays?) that are more suited for an avid crawler/cruiser?

just a quick update. i called dubai municipality 800-900 and made my complaint. a couple of hours later a agent from the ministry of health came to my building to pick up the piece of metal and made his way to Hanoi Restaurant. He assured me that he would thoroughly inspect the kitchens and dining area to avoid something like that happening again. Whilst he can't help my to get my financial claim settled, he did encourage me to file a case against the owners. Overall I am very impressed with the way the municipality has dealt with this. I had very low expectations when I called the helpline- I saw this as an opportunity to vent at best. I'd encourage anyone to make use of the helplines and report any unsanitary or unsafe practices observed or experienced in Dubai eateries....!

I tried to deal with this in a discreet and friendly way- however the manager/owner is refusing to make contact with me and hiding behind his staff. I am now trying to see where I get with Dubai Municipality.

I went to Hanoi yesterday to get some food for take away. I got the spring rolls- when I bit into one of them i broke my tooth on a piece of metal that somehow ended up inside it. I called the restaurant right away to a) warn them so they can ensure no other bits end up in their food and b) to see how they suggest we handle the situation with regards to the damage i sustained to my tooth. I spoke to an employee who was unable to help in any way or form and only after chasing her for a response several times did she give me the number of the owner. There was no answer when I tried calling and until now, no response to my text message. Only after contacting the restaurant again today did I recieve a text message from a restaurant employee informing me that her boss said that they dont accept any liability and I should take it to court if I want any money from them. Pretty rude! As some of you here may have already experienced- Dubai dentists are not cheap.... and whilst the food may not be bad ( other than the spring roll I didnt get to eat anything else) the way this has been handled has left a more than bad taste in my mouth....!!
