Just to make sure I took it all in before responding, I googled "who has played..." and before I finished typing, "who has played james bond" was suggested. Popular query, apparently! I think you are right about the iconic Sean Connery being the total image/package, but must say I am a huge fan of Daniel Craig :)

Cakes are actually cheap to make - seriously! A plain sponge is just butter, eggs, sugar and flour. Total cost is less than 12aed! Bought cakes here are horrible (if you mean the plain ones you get at the bakery section of the supermarket). Even brownies would cost less than 20aed. You're probably right. I guess since I have no butter in the house, or sugar, or flour--pretty much ever--it feels expensive when you throw in the frosting, bells, whistles, et al :) Almost all of the cakes I would like to bake call for vanilla extract, so I guess my first goal is to go to the spice souk, get some nice vanilla beans, put some leftover vodka to use, wait two months...and presto :D Oh, and get louise's # so I can send leftovers to her work lol

My problem is I always end up baking too much; only two and sometimes just one in this household. and yes--the mess :) I do love baking for parties, as I can send leftovers home with people, or leave it there if someone else is hosting!

Every Islamic holiday seems to create this panic, is it really that difficult to go 24 hours without alcohol? would seem so; actually just makes you sound like complete lushes.... its one night...... tsk tsk. The OP obviously has an event, or something which is making her want to seek out a venue. I love wine with a meal in a fancy restaurant. Call me whatever you want.

haha, reply of the day :) Google is also your friend, OP: http://aww.ninemsn.com.au/food/cookingtips/789889/what-is-cake-flour It's different than all purpose flour, but if you can't find flour specifically labeled "cake flour" than the link above will show you how to adjust. I know I have seen it, and I think Waitrose and Organics was where I did. The list is probably endless. HTH

We really like Maya (Mexican).. Nice and romantic and the food is delicious. I can't believe they are closed until December. The place was so nice before, can't wait to see what it will look like after the renovations! Need to get around to trying Asado, too! (I realize they are different, but still :) )

OP its never a good idea when you are so close to someone elses husband that you would consider them a boy version of a girlfriend. Just. Not. On. Right, just not a good idea. Little good could possibly come from it, no matter what the original intentions are. Maybe I am just weird that I think being "best buddies" with a friend's spouse is just plain trouble. Perhaps the OP's friend is insecure because her DH indulges attention from other females but not from her. None of us know! If I were in OP's shoes, I would personally want to steer clear of a friend and her spouse until whatever issues they have are sorted out, because you'll be the loser in it.

Along with a routine, I had an ultimatum growing up. I would come home from school, or after sports practice, have a snack, and then had to get down to studying before I was allowed to take/make any phone calls, watch tv, or play my stereo. There were no phone calls or music allowed after 8pm in the house, so this encouraged me to get my homework and studies done quickly. It got dicier when I was older and working a part time job, so my folks upped the stakes and said if I didn't have a certain grade point average, I had to pay my own school tuition. At about 3200 dhs a month, that was enough motivation for me!

[b'>This answer alone tells me that you are far too friendly with this woman's husband - that is what she is feeling and she has read the book " Only Good Friends" - perhaps you need to get a she girlfriend![/b'> edited by spongemonkey on 13/11/2012 SM, this is what I was thinking. We are friends with a group of couples back home, and frankly, it was obvious one of the female spouses just had a penchant for being super friendly with the husbands in the group--some would even call it flirting. One particular husband was quite responsive to the flirting and it was uncomfortable for all of us in the group--we all saw it. Although it can be true some women are insecure to the point of imagining things, most women are finely tuned to "threats" or advances at their DH's. I think there is always a line that should be there between friends and their husbands. JMO edited by Beebers on 14/11/2012

This one, coffee mate? looks pretty awesome http://www.juicemaster.com/philips-avance-juicer-hr1871 That's the baby! It has seriously changed my life (well, diet at least!) I use it at least once a day, usually twice and that's without being on any of the programmes. I have just fallen in love with juicing! And this machine makes it a complete doddle I know what you mean!! I was a juicing freak when I had mine. Looks like I will be getting one for my birthday. Just peeped DH searching on his laptop :)

I understand useless appliances all too well. They are all in storage back home, along with my brilliant ones. I had 2 juicers. The Jack LaLane, which was a slight process to clean, but not too bad, and this one: http://www.omegajuicers.com/juicers/juicer-8006.html which was great because I could use it for wheatgrass and making nut butters. Supposedly it helped the juices retain more enzymes due to not emitting any heat in the process. I want to buy one here, but I keep telling myself I am visiting home soon and can bring it back. If anyone has seen an omega juicer around here, or can recommend another masticating one, do tell!

What do you mean by "detox?" That's a rather broad term. If it is related to rehab, I would lean toward UK--or Thailand for more unorthodox methods. If you are simply talking colon cleansing, or something of that nature, you can search the threads here or google for local hollistic and healing centers.

Sometimes, DH even cooks pasta in it and don't ask me how he does it as I leave the kitchen to him during those times :D oh, and yes, [b'>it does get crusty at the bottom after it's done and kept on "warm", but in our family it's a treat [/b'>as in Iranian culture they love this crusty bit edited by dramaqn on 11/11/2012 yes, yes, and yes :D I never thought I would use a cooking appliance on a daily basis, but this one I do. You can cook a few varieties of lentils in it, as well. So easy to make perfect rice, and if you want to infuse it with mushrooms, mint, chili peppers--what ever--you simply add a bit more water. We bought a Kenwood and it was really cheap. You can also use it to steam hot dogs buns--just like the ball park style :) Only 6 am, and I am thinking about ball park hot dogs. great!

I never thought my floors had dirt that settled in, until I split some of the water from the bowl I was doing handwashing in. It looked like I spilled bleach. Made me wonder how a lingerie cleaner can do a better job than the special floor cleaner I have always used ?? Probably need to get a steam clean done, here, as well. There is obviously no sealant on our tiles.

Hi I think you should visit a doctor as soon as possible it old be a hundred of things. I go to the city hospital if they think its something different they can refer you to a different doctor straight away. I have R Arthritis it started on my knees and recently had problems with my eyes, my rheumatologist at city sneaked me in with the eye specialist straight after an appointment with her. Good luck. Exactly. OP, don't concede that you will always have to feel awful--you don't know what else could be going on! It's not normal to feel horrible pain when you wake up, especially at 33!

This happened to me in a bakery in Africa--except--other way around. I was just oohing and ahhing as I looked in the pastry case, and the young lady behind the counter said "Do you want a sample?" Because I was going to buy the cake to take to a party, I was trying to pick one that everybody would like. Before I could even decide, she sliced a large piece of cake from two different ones and plopped them on another plate. For me. I was thinking "What if I don't like these, or, what am I going to do, bring a cake to a party with a slice out??" I took an awkward bite of each and thanked her, but said I needed a full cake. She wouldn't let me pay for the samples and didn't seem to mind at all. I guess I don't wonder what's "normal" the more that I travel.

Been trying to get some hiking shoes for a few weeks, foot size is US 9.5W (26- 26.5cm) but very few places seem to go any bigger than a 8.5. Am I a giant or something? Any suggestions where I might find 'giant' sizes? This post made me smile :) I am a 10 US and have even been asked by a salesperson here "why my feet are too big." When you say hiking shoes, not boots, have you considered New Balance? I think they have NB stores here, and I had a pair of "All Terrain" NB's that I was very happy with back in my hiking days. Basically, a really sturdy trainer that gives more ankle support than regular trainers--but not exactly high-tops

I know Beebers, 2nd fire in Tecom. DH says its the cladding on the buildings that's unsafe. She did see the fire herself and described it as 5 vertical rows of units and not the entire floors. oh no. :( so it's still burning. gosh I hope no one is injured. How many buildings in Tecom are "unsafe," I wonder??

If she's just have a kiss with her husband (I'm picturing wedding type kiss) then I don't see the issue. If she's hanging off a pole and licking a man's face I can see why you're upset :) Hey, I thought the pole was tasteful :D Teachers are people, too. They're not all nuns. just last night we were talking about at how even in their last year of school my kids had to be in bed at 9 on a school night with lights out 9.30 and everying in the room switched off. I always had to be in my bedroom by 8pm for years--quite challenging when my practices after school would be over at 6! I was still wound up from athletics. I mentioned it once to a classmate and was mortified, as apparently this wasn't the norm :( To this day I still like to go to bed really early, though, and I am happy for it. It's good preparation for the workforce, for certain. Edited to add--sorry OP, got off topic. I also cast my vote for a boring book.
