Thanks ladies for your replies but it isn't that I'm worried about separation anxiety. Having been through that with my 2 other children, I know what to expect. What I'm saying is that I personally think that a 5 hour session for a 3 year old is too long. He'll be exhausted. He still has a 2 hour nap in the day. I would rather do maybe three 3 hour sessions per week rather than two 5 hour sessions but it appears that this isn't possible here. Most nurseries are what I would compare to 'daycare nurseries' in the UK. Is there not anything equivalent to the UK 'preschools' ? Or alternatively are there any music/dance/art classes for this age group or any mother and toddler groups like in the UK where the children go off and play or do craft while the parents 'keep an eye' but generally don't really interact with them?

Dear Betti Having read your post i feel the child is not really the one with the issue here that needs resolving, you need to look deeper into the issue. If you are implying that I have a problem, then you are far from the truth. I know he needs to be with children his own age and he was due to start preschool in the UK September just gone. There he would have started with 3 hour sessions which is normal. He is only just turned 3 and has never been to school before. Chucking him in for 5 hours at a time is too long IMO. My other children started with 3 hour sessions and built up to a full day in their FS1 year so I don't see any need for him to do anymore. In the UK we did loads of activities where he mixed with other children but since we arrived in Dubai in August, we haven't found any 'toddler groups' or music classes similar to those we went to at home. My original post was to find out whether there are any similar activities in Dubai. I find your post offensive and totally unhelpful.

Does anyone know where I can buy either lego or playmobil advent calendars? Thanks I bought mine (one of each Lego & Playmobil) via Amazon & had them Shop & Shipped over...even with shipping they were almost half the price of the ones I found locally. I few of us got together, ordered quite a few and split the shipping charges...worked out even cheaper. :D Thanks. I had looked at Amazon but wasn't sure how long it would take for them to be shipped. How long before you got yours?

They had Advocate at The Veterinary Hospital in Al Quoz 04 3387726 when I was last there about a week ago. Don't think it's a regular supply so probably best to ring beforehand and check they still have it. Thanks, will give them a ring.

Sorry to hijack, but do the companies come to you with samples etc and measure up furniture or do you have to take measurements to them?? Have some chairs that love but not keen on the pattern so just thought could get them covered and start using them. Any other recommendations for Mirdif area? For OP, i thought that price seemed reasonale and prompted me to think about doing same! :) This company came to me with fabric samples then came back and took the furniture away. He said it would take approx 5 days.

I got a quote from Everest 3 seater, 2 seater and 1 seater bonded leather for 5500. What material are you using? edited by Wiggle on 24/10/2011 It's just a cotton fabric, not leather.

I did call Rosgold, they told me 2200 AED...? is this normal for a move in clean? cant be. It depends how big your house is. Did they come round and take a look before quoting you? We paid 2400 AED for a large 5 bed villa. There were 5 cleaners there for 11 hours. They cleaned inside and out....even the patio, balconies etc. I know it's a lot of money but they saved me a lot of elbow grease!

We used Rosgold who were excellent. They cleaned absolutely everything, inside cupboards, got paint spots off floor, bird poo off balcony....literally everything. I would highly recommend them. In fact I'm going to call them to arrange for a weekly maid service. Can't remember the number but they have a website. Hi Can you kind to share the number of the company and how much per hour please?. Really desperate as I need a cleaner this week. The company I usually use has closed down; no idea when they will be up and running again.. TIA The numbers are 048135540 or 0503837584. They charge 35dhs/per hr although we had a set price for a deep clean.

you need to email Pat Moffit at moffitt121 at hotmail dot com let me know when you have received this, so I can remove her email so she does not end up on every junk mail list in Dubai! Made a note of her email address. Many thanks, I'll give her a try.

hi, we shipped our puppy and used Petair. They organised everything from collecting her from our house to delivering her to us in Dubai. They were fantastic but at a price. I think it cost us about £1800 not including the rabies jab but it was worth it in the end as we had so many other things to think about.

I was married before I was 40 but I have had a baby since I turned 40. Being 40 is brilliant. I feel much more confident now and really love life. I look back on all the things I've done with a smile but now I'm looking forward to the rest of my life. She will find love and have children if that's what she wants. No point hurrying it. It has to be right.

All of my children have had these. I was told by my GP that the more you agitate them, the quicker they'll go but I can't say I noticed any difference. He also said they would suddenly disappear after a year and sure enough they did. Some of them got a sort of white head on them and my daughter would always comment that these ones hurt. These ones have left little scars but that could have been because she scratched them. i don't think there is anything you can do to get rid of them. They will just go of their own accord.

Any activity that raises you heart rate will help you burn fat and therefore lose weight so, yes, this will definitely help. It won't do a lot to tone you though so you will need to team it with situps, pressups, squats etc to tone specific areas.

I was in a similar situation a few years back and had my friend from back home go and get an international dl for me and fedex it over. I just emailed her a copy of my German dl along with a letter explaining my situation and giving her authority to get an international dl for me. Do you have anyone back home that can check for u? I have a feeling you can apply for an international license online. Is an international license as good as having a UAE license or will I need both?

I live in the villa phase 1 is all landscaped so no building site for us....phase 2 and 3 is comng along. Dso Wellington is only 5 min drive....most houses at the villa have there own pools either mazaya s that come with pools or Dubai properties whoch landlords have put in pools. No shops here yet but there s everything u need in dso so whilst doing the school run you can pop to shops etc. Huge playground here for the kids and mini ones all the way around. Huge houses and grt value for money. This is the link to the villa community website if u have any questions about the different houses etc http://www.thevilladubai.webs.com/ That sounds encouraging. We are looking at a villa in phase 3 later this week so will have a drive around and see what else is available. At the moment we are staying at Arabian Ranches in quite a small villa and with 3 children, it's made me realise that size does matter!! And i totally agree with you regarding shopping at DSO whilst doing the school run.

Hi there We are also new here (arrived yesterday) and our children will be starting at Wellington Academy next week. We chose it because most of the schools had a waiting list and because at least they won't be the only newbies. We are also looking at The Villa. I think I would prefer Cedre Villas at DSO but there aren't many available with a layout that suits our needs. We are viewing villas at the Villa this week. You seem to get a lot more for your money but it looks like quite a lot of construction is going on so you may be living on a building site. I don't think there are many (if any) amenities there yet.

Why move to the villa or FH when your kids are to be at the DSO school, makes no sense at all. What you save on rent you will pay in DEWA charges. DSO is freezone so there is no 5% housing fee of your total rent, unlike most other areas. The house are really well built and economical to run. Our original plan was to move to DSO but the only villa layout thst is within our budget and works for us is a twin villa and I have only been able to find one svailable which was horrendously overlooked. Also phase 2 is not very green and seemed like a ghost town. We were told the Villa was a sandpit but in fact we were pleasantly surprised when we went to see it. Haven't looked at any villas yet but the floor plans show a layout that works. FC had a nice suburban feel and again the layout works. Compared to the Villa and FC, DSO seems quite grey. I will be taking the children to GEMS DSO everyday anyway so will be able to pop into Spinneys without having to make an extra journey. If a twin villa comes up in DSO between now and Sept we would take it but I think we are limiting our choices too much.

Hi, my girls are in DSO, we are still in the uk at the moment, goods on their way! We have got a villa at Arabian Ranches, we did the commute a few times when where house hunting, was only 12 - 15 mins. Mine are going into fs2 and Yr 4. looking forward to it, but has been a steep learning curve! Getting school & house sorted! Hi icoolie. We are going to Dubai next week to house hunt. I think we are going to look at SO and AR. The children wil be in yr 4 and yr 2. We are also still in the UK so this is a bit scary organising everything from here. We only found out a week and a half go that we would be relocating and the things that needed to be done seemed insurmountable but when I see what we have achieved in such a small amount of timem i am hopeful of everything being ready. Good to know we're not the only ones.

Where will your DH be working and will you be doing the school drop off and pick up each day? How many bedrooms do you need and what is your rough budget? Some options might be Arabian Ranches and the Villa Project. It would be very handy to live in the Cedre Villas at DSO though! ETA - I have met two families living in AR that have their children starting at this school. edited by TwoKids on 18/07/2011 We need at least 3 beds. Budget 160k. My DH will be working in media city. Someone told me that most people whose children are going to wellington academy will live in SO. This makes it easier for play dates etc. If we couldn't find anywhere in SO, I wanted another option although I didn't want my children to be the only ones living somewhere different. It's important to us to live somewhere that has a community, pool, shop etc. We have the opportunity of renting in Springs 6 but need to do the drive to see if it is a pain or not. I would rather not live there if all the children go to a different school....or maybe this won't matter. what do you think?

We are still in the UK but our children have places at DSO starting Sept. Will everyone who goes to that school live in DSO? Just trying to suss out where to look for villas. Need more than one option as we've only got a few weeks to sort it out.
