Google Halal Travel and some sites will pop up. With regards to swimming, wear your burkini and you're good to go:) Some husbands will still not allow their wives to swim where men are swimming, regardless of dress. Without getting *too* off topic here, just wanted to mention that husband or not, I personally would never swim in a mixed pool and that the burkini wouldn't offer an acceptable halal alternative as it defines the shape of the body. Also, I wear full niqaab so ya, the burkini still isn't my cup of tea :)

I didn't see a thread about this yet but apparently Etisalat finally got on board with free domestic calls! :) http://www.khaleejtimes.com/kt-article-display-1.asp?xfile=data/nationgeneral/2013/July/nationgeneral_July15.xml&section=nationgeneral

Can anyone recommend an all inclusive (tickets, meals, hotel, transfers, etc) package to the Maldives? Maybe you've been on one before, can recommend a resort or travel agent you used and a rough estimate of the cost? Thanks!

I made a fruit salad for the class once, but instead of serving it in a bowl as usual, I hollowed out a halved watermelon and put the salad in that. You can google/pinterest so many ways to creatively cut the melon, but I just opted for a simple zig-zag edge and it was a hit!

I really appreciate when teachers take the time to assign food to students, but in my experience I've noticed its just up to the teacher to take that action while others dont seem to mind 27 cakes ! I really like those little sandwiches that come ready made in a platter. I've seen them at Reef Bakery at the Co-op. I'm sure other bakery's have them too.

Or ask if your or your husbands place of employment will receive packages in your behalf using their physical address.

consistency, consistency, CONSISTENCY! Discipline, no matter what type, is never easy on a parent. But its better you do it now then have to discipline a 10 yr old down the road!

thanks y'all! Can someone tell me how to get to Daiso? I see it mentioned all the time, but I live up in Sharjah and only make it into Dubai when necessary. And it starting to seem pretty necessary I make a trip to this craft haven known as Daiso ;)

Water is just fine...just no food. Also, come prepared with a healthy snack to have after the entire test is done. I almost fainted after mine from going from a rock-bottom sugar low to a super-duper sugar high! My husband had to a run into a store and grab some dried apricots...but I did settle into a nice long nap afterwards ;)

Currently have an electric cooker and have only ever had electric, but am starting to to consider a gas one (apparently our wall socket doesn't safely cover the amps the electric cooker puts out). Turning to you experienced ladies for your feedback!

I also used Dr. Jennifer Kasirsky at Welcare, she was great! Completely understood all our concerns, never pushed us into anything we didnt want to do and really became a good friend through out the whole process.

Wow, ladies, thank you!! You don't know the relief in my heart at reading your replies! (sorry to sound so dramatic, but its true) When I complained of this to other people, they just snickered and told me I'm not in America anymore, get used to it :( I was going to what I thought was a very reputable hostpital and living in Sharjah its hard to get down into what I consider "deep Dubai" so often for check-ups. Sigh...the search continues insha'allah!

Change doctors, we use Dr Keith Nichol (DR KEith Nichol Medical Centre 04 3941000), have gone to him for 10 years now and his check ups are the same as you describe in the States. He is very thorough and listens to any concerns you may have. Thanks so much Starsouthern!! Where is he located?

The party store in Garhoud (across from Welcare Hospital) has a huge range of balloons, streamers, treat bags, party favors, etc.

I am actually selling a set right now. They are custom made...much longer than anything you find ready-made and also higher off the ground than the traditional majlis (maybe 10 inches or so?). We had it made in a dull gold/tan fabric with dark green scroll-y vine things.... Picture might be easier? lol Email me if you're interested! bintnizam at g mai l . com

I brought my CHI flat iron from the states and plugged it in to a convertor to use. After a few minutes in began to smoke and then burned out :( Maybe I didn't use a proper convertor but its quite a big investment to make the same mistake again, so I was wondering what brands are comparable to a CHI? I have thick, ethnic hair and need a professional grade iron that won't break the bank!

I am in the same boat as you with a very gassy and unsettled 3 month old. After checking out all my local grocery stores, I settled on making my own. There are loads of recipes on line, they all usually have either fennel or dill seed. Just started it yesterday so we'll see how it goes. And I've also seen some "baby soothing teas" or something like that with fennel in Safeer and Geant. Hope that helps!

ooooh, just watched it last night!! Am tired of the same type of, ahem, theme revisited again. And the manner in which it was done. Also the whole Edna story line was SO unnecessary! Was fun watching Ms. Pattamore's fling though!

My son was also diagnosed with plagiocephaly at around 4 months. Like you, we hoped it would self-correct but it really is hard to keep a baby staring in one direction all the time or after having spent so long to get him to fall asleep have to risk waking him up just because you need to turn his head! We made the decision to helmet him at 6 months and he wore it until he was a year old. This was all in America so the hospital, brand, etc. would be irrelevant But as far as the experience goes, I would do it all over again if I had to. Babies are incredibly resilient and will adapt to almost anything. After a couple days my son didn't even realize he was wearing one. And you can decorate them with cute decals too :) 23 hours/day sounds about right but its a graduated process. Meaning a couple hours on the first day, a few more on the second, etc. until parents and baby are used to it. The fact is that he will live with his head his whole life, but this is just a small window in his life to try all you can do to correct it. Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

I love those Qur'an laptops! My kids learned so many surahs and du'as from it. I got it from the Dar us Salam store directly ( I went to the one in Sharjah) as they are better quality than any knock-off brands in the other stores. And they have a good selection that span different price ranges. I think the one I got was one of the cheaper ones, around 50dhm or less. Also love that you can get qari choices besides the usual Sudais/Shuraim ones ;) The one we have is Minshawi and we all love it!
