Is it just me or does 2700aed or even 3000aed not seem and extortionate amount for the services that are provided by both the maid and the agency? We're talking about less then 500 GBP a month. I think what I might be getting at, is that I sometimes feel annoyed that many people expect excellent work for very little pay. No offence to the OP, but you state you have four little ones, this will mean quite a lot of involvement from your maid and rather a lot of washing and cleaning as well. This did seem judgemental to me but I might be wrong. As I said earlier I do understand the costs etc and it really is a great deal if the agencies take all the responsibilities I was just told by several people that I should search more. Anyway I thank you all for taking the time to reply. Peace.

I think what I might be getting at, is that I sometimes feel annoyed that many people expect excellent work for very little pay. No offence to the OP, but you state you have four little ones, this will mean quite a lot of involvement from your maid and rather a lot of washing and cleaning as well. I have been doing the same amount of work and my pay was like 0 GBP or AED whichever you fancy. From what I know the usual salary for such helpers is around 1400 which I can gladly pay its the visa fees and hassle that I want to avoid specially when I am not going to stay here for long. It would be nice if people could reply with something useful rather than just judging others. I never mentioned how much work I will make her do. Yes I do have 4 children but half of the day the elder 2 are at school and the other half they are busy in their other activities. We like to cook our food ourselves heck we like to do most of our chores ourselves and that's why we never hired any maid uptill now. It's just now that we feel the need of a child minder or babysitter all the time. Like when I go to pick the kids from school I don't like to leave the other two in the car alone or when they are all sleeping I would love to go to the gym but can't because there's no one to leave them with. And yes the amount quoted by these agencies is very reasonable but since so many people kept telling me that I could find someone for less than that I thought I should check. And what about the maid agencies in Sharjah and Ajman I bet the overheads there aren't that much in terms of office rent etc so they might provide such services for less than the ones here in Dubai. As I said earlier I am just searching for a better deal and if I won't find one i will just use howdra etc. as I do feel its a good one and suits my requirement. My apartments have a strict rule against illegal maids so they check everyone coming and going and ask for papers etc so they can easily tell if some illegal maid is hired and of course i am not going to hire one.

Since you are only looking for a temporary maid then this is why the price is higher, since all the overheads are still valid but you are not tied in to the standard 2 year commitment. It is the same concept as short term furnished accommodation - you will always pay more than someone who is tied into a 1 year contract. Howdra / Explorer charge 2,700aed per month and they cover all the maid costs such as visa, medical, holidays etc. You pay a 5k downpayment and their agency charge as well. I very much doubt you will find a short term agency maid for less than this, since most maids these days are charging 2k plus all the sponsorship fees. Dave at Howdra is very helpful. ETA - they have a minimum stint of 4 months for their maids, after which you can cancel edited by The Dangerous Blonde on 29/01/2013 4-6 months that's exactly my requirement I agree with you completely it's just that I am looking for a better deal.

Mum2girls I asked them but nothing useful ever came up I am beginning to wonder if they were telling the truth in the first place. But I searched and found an old thread here where it was mentioned that you could hire from agencies in Sharjah and Ajman where perhaps the costs aren't that much. Still searching for maid agencies in those emirates but no success yet. Can anyone lead me in the right direction? There are also local persons who give NOC to their maids and that works out pretty cheap too but don't know if that's legal or how it works but if it is then does anyone have any contact numbers for people who provide such services? Thanks for all the replies looks like we will have to use howdra if I don't find anything.

I understand that these agencies have to cover their costs too but I have been told more than once by totally different people that I can get a live-in maid with valid visa for less than that and hence this post. So still if anyone knows anyone who can arrange such a maid please reply.

Anyone got it done? How is your hair now? I have quite frizzy hair and want to do something about it. I got my hair straightened a couple of years back i loved the shine etc but my hair lacked volume and fell a lot too.Now I recently (4 months) delivered a baby so my hair is falling as it is and I don't want to be completely bald of course so want to know if keratin treatment makes your hair fall? Or is it good for hair health? Specially if someone has used this product from qod as my salon is using this one. And does anyone know what's the difference between rebonding and keratin? Which one is better in terms of hair health and volume TIA for so many questions

Thanks for the replies. But the younger two are too young. The youngest is just 5 months so going to the park with them wont work the way i want.Plus I have guests all the year round and with no maid I never get the time for myself. I think this is the only way to make exercise a part of my daily routine. And I also had a surgery recently so I guess I need some professional help. I understand most PT's give 3 sessions per week which is fine by me. I found a few on classifieds that charge less than 100aed per session but don't know if they are good. That's why I m asking here. Perhaps someone can recommend someone. I don't mind paying 1000 to 1500 aed per month if that can help me with my weight problems.

With baby #3 i tried for 3 months but since he got hooked up onto formula early on I just had to give up. Not to mention with 2 elder siblings and no support whatsoever it seemed impossible.I remember I used to dread the nights as me and baby used to be awake the whole night. He was collic also. I just hope and pray that I don't have to go through a similar experience this time around. I am specially interested to know if some of you had an experience where the baby was put onto formula within the first week owing to low supply but they kept trying and were able to do it properly later on. Also would like to know if there are any massage ladies that do house visits as my mom says that it helps too.

For some reason I was not able to see the posts after sweetLily, once again thank you all for taking the time to reply. I am certainly going to meet the LC at city hospital. It's great to know that I am normal and there's nothing wrong with my supply. I guess I will have to turn a deaf ear to my MIL and others telling me that I am not. I will keep you wonderful ladies posted about my breastfeeding attempts on here.

Thanks for taking the time to reply everyone. I have noted down your email address sweetlily and will be emailing you. I read a few things about BF during my previous pregnancies but putting all that knowledge into practice takes a lot of determination but this time I have made up my mind not to give up as I did the previous times. Unfortunately when everyone else around you keeps telling you that you are not making enough milk the baby needs more you sort of give in. This is what happened to me the first and third time. The second time though I was staying with my mom and got a lot of time to try and was able to feed my second child for 1 and a half year but supplemented with formula as there were still times when I wasn't producing as much as he wanted. edited by Blackr0s3 on 10/05/2012

I also don't like this about DCC and MOE. It's really a shallow thing to do. There are elderly / limited mobility shoppers then there are sick or pregnant ladies but they dont need such shoppers I guess. Well there are plenty of other malls

Thanks for all the replies and I don't like it because it's happening again and again I just don't like to wear the same thing as others I mean where is the individuality but I guess some people aren't bothered by it and that's why behave this way but it is extremely irritating when they get all the complements and you don't when you wear that thing hmmm who said life is fair DH also has the same advice don't tell her next time what you are planning to buy I guess I just have to follow these wise words

I was out there recently and some of the shops are partially empty - they have the space filled up by the same green tee shirt! The reason i went was that someone mentioned a White Company outlet there - well, ditto - a practically empty shop! I did get something in Kenneth Cole and Villeroy and Boch. It's a very depressing place though...much of it is just rubbish and sometimes overpriced at that. Totally agree that it's a depressing place but kids love chuck e cheese

We had a wonderful time at Atlantis and shangrila and created some beautiful memories. I have 3 children all under 6 year old and all love to play in water so that is a must. Any ideas as to where shall we book? TIA

Instead of using instant pudding, you can make your own at home using custard powder/corn starch. Its pretty easy to make too. And if you want it to be the color of mud, just add some cocoa powder. I sometimes add a layer of brownies too to make it even more yummy. That's exactly what I was thinking but wasn't so sure, thanks for clarifying

Thanks a lot you all are simply great. I will definitely check these places for cool whip. I usually shop at lulu but was unable to find it there may be I m looking in the wrong isle? At Lulus the Coolwhip is usually in the frozen section, in one of the upright freezers close to the checkout end. Great!!! Thanks I love EW:)

I don't think it's an offending question and agree that it's a great conversation starter. The answer probably depends upon where do you think your true home is. Depends basically upon where do you belong etc

Perfume by Patrick Suskind? If so, it's one of my all-time favourites and I've read it several times. That's the one! I have downloaded it but don't think I should start reading it now as need to drop kids at school in the morning and have this very bad habit of staying up late trying to finishing every book in one go. I did that with 'the help' and was up till 5 in the morning and the whole next day was sooooooo tough

And is there any way I can replace instant pudding I don't like it's taste at all Infact is there any other EASY recipe that uses similar Oreo cookie layer like this one uses with perhaps some other sort of cream layer? I just love the base and haven't tried it before so really am looking forward to make it but the instant pudding is putting me off Ps- I have never tasted this dessert just heard about it from my friend and thought EW's might know the recipe
