I second the recommendation for Sharjah English School. There are other families who live in Ajman and even Umm Al Qwain who send their kids to school there. My son has attended there for several years and we are very pleased with school. It's a nice community and the principal and teachers are fantastic.

Welcome to Sharjah! Sharjah and Dubai form one big metropolitan area, and many people live in one and work in the other. I live and work in Sharjah but go to Dubai often for various things. Some of my coworkers live in Dubai and their drive takes about the same as others who live in Sharjah. You just have to keep in mind the traffic patterns. There are two places near your school with nurseries: the Australian International School and the Higher Colleges of Technology. My child is well past that age, but I know people who have had children in both and they were pleased. There is also a good nursery at American University of Sharjah, which is also nearby, but it can be hard to get a place there as the university's employees have priority. There is lots for families to do in Sharjah, such as the aquarium, Arabian Wildlife Centre, Discovery Centre, Al Qasba, Al Wasit Wetland Preserve and Al Majaz waterfront park. Prices for these things are generally lower than in Dubai. The Sharjah Ladies Club has lots of activities for kids and I think there are some mothers' groups that meet at a place called MumMum Cafe. Good luck with the move.

Be very careful about this. Cats love to climb could use the netting to crawl up and over your balcony.

Here are the things I stock up on when in the US: -real vanilla extract -birthday cards and gift tissue paper at the dollar stores -cheap vitamins from Target -clothes and shoes, especially for my son And, as others have mentioned, toys are very expensive here. I had my husband pick up the board game Life in the US for $17. Here, it was 200 dirhams ($54)! If you are due for a new car seat soon, you might consider putting that in your container as well.

I know several people at AUS, and they all enjoy living on campus. Many have been there for a number of years.

A friend has the Volvo. She likes it a lot but just got quoted 8,000 AED to replace a headlamp that was not longer working properly. This was by the dealer.

Try American University of Sharjah. I don't know about the rate of pay, but I do know they have part-time positions from time to time.

Hang in there...it can be hard, I know. If they were going to cancel they should have done so as soon as possible. DH and I have become so frustrated at people failing to RSVP or just not showing up that we have really rethought the whole idea of having guests over lately. It seems that these days people are so reluctant to commit. It's not just happening to you. Sometimes friendships change due to life circumstances. If going out seems to be a problem, maybe suggest something low key, such as a girls' night in at your place. Hope you have a happy birthday anyway. Maybe take yourself to a spa and indulge.

Our family of three might be in Kuwait for a long weekend in mid-October. DS is 10. We would appreciate recommendations for sightseeing and fun things to do. We live in Dubai, so we get plenty of time at the mall. :) Thank you!

Take some extra ziplock bags in case you need to seal away any vomited-upon clothes! We used to do this as well for disposing of smelly diapers after late-night changes in hotels. Since the airplane toilets are tiny, I used to partially undress my baby before I went into the toilet for a diaper change. This made for a faster and easier change.

We've found some good deals in May before, although this was at hotels in AD, RAK and Liwa.

I saw lots of cute Peppa books at Borders in Mirdiff City Centre this past weekend. They were on one of the tables near the front.

[b'>Its[/b'> really annoying to work in a company where English is bad news and nobody is bothered, I hate the way people spoil English as a language here It's edited by BottleTree on 11/11/2014

Al Majaz Park, which is downtown on the corniche, is a nice place to go when the weather is better. It has mini golf and splash pad, plus a nice place to walk and restaurants.
