Am I the only one who loves the microwave bags of popcorn? (super easy, mess free, yummy & healthy options)

Hi, I'm a Dr myself & went through severe morning sickness, I'm now 14weeks. I was unable to acquire Maxalon here (Metoclopramide 10mg 3xdaily), but got some in UK recently. This is safe in pregnancy if you can get some. Here I obtained Navidoxine, which you can take 3 x daily also and is safe in pregnancy. It was very effective, but I had to try 3 pharmacies to get some. Good luck!! (so successful that I'm gaining too much weight... you can't win lol)

Dr Gertrud Koster (Koster Clinic) 043881887 I'm a doctor myself (Specialist Family Physician @ Wellbeing Medical Centre) and I really trust her for my own gynae issues, and i'm a tough customer to please. She has excellent experience, up-to-date knowledge, great bedside manner and communication skills.

Don't bother trying Sharaf DG in Times Square... we went there for a speaker/ docker cable and they didn't have any. They could also barely tell their a** from their elbow, let alone a socket from a lead.

I tried H&M in Dubai Mall... they were renovating & have no maternity :( My friends had bought stuff there too. Do you think Mall of Emirates has any?

No mention of the fire on their website, the maternity stuff was probably hidden away somewhere. Do you mean 'only took a couple of days' for the clothes to arrive, or for them to recover from the fire? I still need to know whether to try them...

I'll probably be shot down for this, but.... IKEA! Great value for money, covers all bases if you like a simple modern look, fast & free delivery over a certain amount. AND you can choose what you want online before even setting foot in the place.

Great thanks, i'll go for it then (And will stick to the pool... hopefully jelly-free) I'm better off taking it a month at a time where exercise is concerned lol edited by Britgirldubai on 23/06/2014 edited by Britgirldubai on 23/06/2014

Not sure whether to be offended or pleased to hear "The sale items are over there madam... 25-50% off"

I agree with many of these, especially shop sales-people looking down at me because i'm casual (why do women go shopping in tiny dresses & huge heels?), and the over-taker who stops at the speed bump (without indicating at any point). But why does everyone hate the word 'kids'?... clearly in modern day English it is not being used to describe goat offspring.

Some nationalities (I don't know which though) seem to primarily use the hosepipe to spray down the walls & floor, and make puddles to dip our skirts/trousers in when we pull them down

YES!...Tallala Retreat, Tangalle, Sri Lanka. I went by myself for 5 days in November 13. Bargain flights available, they arranged pick-up from Colombo. Yoga sessions available twice daily (7.30am & 4.30pm I think) if you want to do them, nice groups but no pressure. The total cost for the room + amazing buffet meals 3x day + 2 yoga sessions daily + a few massages was extremely good!! As it's a surfing & yoga retreat there's a great mix of people.... singles, couples, groups etc. All the staff & the yoga instructor were wonderful. There's a huge pool & lots of greenery, and a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and by the beach. I took a tuktuk to town for a wander round (alone) one day which was safe & fun. I hope to go back there again!! Only drawbacks - no AC, but lots of fans, and you will need insect repellent. edited by Britgirldubai on 09/06/2014

Dear Catonclan, Thank so much for the info! Looks like I've missed my window to 'return to the UK for a brief period to work as a locum', and will be needing an I&R scheme on my return to the UK. On the up-side it may be a useful experience (as I have no choice now). Hopefully it would be a few months working as a retainer GP under supervision, rather than exams etc. I'm searching the BMA website but can't find the quote, could you add the link please? Thank you!!! edited by Britgirldubai on 08/06/2014

Hi Dra I am a GP who has lived & worked in Dubai for 2 years, after 10years practicing in the UK for the NHS. As I had my CV on job sites here initially, I still receive emails from head-hunters/ recruiters looking for UK trained Drs to work in the Middle East. Here are some email addresses: [email protected], CV to [email protected] (Doha jobs) [email protected], www.jerryvarghese.com (Doha jobs) Here are some UAE recruiters that may cover Doha: [email protected] [email protected] & [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] The post by 'catonclan' has really worried me though... I didn't think it was difficult to practice in the UK again after 2 years abroad, I thought it was only if you hadn't been practicing medicine for 2yrs that your were required to retrain eg. 2 years off having children etc. Are you certain of this? Even if you've been practicing as GP for the 2 years abroad? Let us know if any of the email addresses help, Good luck!

Well done you!!!! By controlling your sugars & reducing your weight you have added years to your life, as well as improving your quality of life. The list of benefits of improving your weight and blood sugars is endless. I am a GP (Wellbeing Medical Centre, Al Wasl Rd) from the UK. Hair loss is not a known side-effect of Metformin, and I have just double-checked the British National Formulary. Perhaps your dietary change has resulted in some other nutrient deficiency? Or could it be related to the known high Chlorine levels in the water here? Or stress?... Hair loss occurs typically 3 months after a stressful life event. Or other endocrine abnormality? (eg. Thyroid level) There are various supplements and water filters available for some of these problems. Don't let this take away from the wonderful health boost losing weight has given you!

Hi, i'm a 35year old GP born & raised in the UK currently living & working in Dubai. Both my brother & myself went to boarding schools in England, although our parents lived nearby. We both grew up in beautiful Winchester... I went to St Swithuns School & he went to Winchester College. I have the BEST memories of childhood!! We were given the best and most privileged start in life. I made amazing friends FOR LIFE, who are all now wonderful successful people themselves. I recently got married here, and the friends who flew over for the wedding were my school friends. We've been friends for 23 years now through everything. My brother trained as an Anaesthetist, although he was head-hunted by Google & works in their head-office in San Fransisco now. I'm proud of my schooling & what it's helped me achieve :)
